What? No it doesn't. Lol.

Understand that first before you try to speak publicly about a topic as if you know what I should or shouldn't be doing. So please, hold your preaching since you clearly aren't the only one in this thread who thinks they know things.

You are a moron.

Even better, let's resort to name calling...grow the fuck up

I'm not sure who taught you but you are definitely supposed to warm up before stretching. So LOL at your schooling.

at least have sources if you're going to push a belief. sorry jp and brian, but zild and (no need to be a dick...) kinetic energy are right, according to the below.

Posted by EarnYourKeep on Feb-20-2009 21:34:

i can careless if someone has sources or is right or not, I know my body I know what I'm capable of doing and how far to push it. I choose to stretch before I work out or run because I cramp, I don't if I stretch. And yes, I take in plenty of water and my nutritional intake is superb. So I think I know what works well for me, regardless of what NY Times says or whether or not someone is right or wrong in theory.

Thanks, but I trust my what my sister knows and teaches. She's a master trainer. Pretty sure she knows what she's talking about.

Its logic. Talk to any kinesiology student they'll tell you the same.

Why does everyone say warmup before doing activity? Its the same reasoning. You warm up, stretch a bit then move on to activity.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Feb-20-2009 21:41:

Yeah I take that back...WARMING UP is what I meant...not stretching, specifically. Guess I just felt like arguing.

She probably just forgot. my trainer right now (even though im a trainer as well and i learned it) is showing me the exact same methods.

He has trained olympic athletes, finished kinesiology school and done several certifications.

alot of people do stretch before a workout. thats fine. They MUST warm up first. There is no point in stretching a cold muscle.

Put an elastic in the freezer, stretch it see what happens.

there we go

Posted by Silky Johnson on Feb-20-2009 21:43:

See post above yours. I actually don't recall my sister ever telling me to stretch before a workout, but she definitely always preaches warmp-up and cool down.

I do, however stretch a little before I run. I have to. Like Nyce, I gotta listen to my body.

agreed.

i hate running.. can't afford to lose those extra calories

Posted by Silky Johnson on Feb-20-2009 21:51:

Lol...I'm becoming obsessed with it. I don't LOVE it while I'm doing it, but I do get a certain sense of satisfaction knowing I'm pushing myself. And it feels good every time I lap some flabby assed loser. Definitely brings out my competitive side, lol.

Posted by EarnYourKeep on Feb-20-2009 21:52:

addicted to a runners high

Posted by Silky Johnson on Feb-20-2009 21:53:

I hope I don't turn into one of those psychos who does marathons and shit...or like Tea Leoni in Spanglish, lol. Actually no, I can't EVER see myself doing that.

Posted by amp3 on Feb-20-2009 22:04:

Thought I would inject my running experience into this thread (not calling it gospel, just what works for me) I run about 45-60 miles a week, and I pretty much keep the stretching to after the run. The only time I do it before and after is if I am doing a track workout or fartlek, where I will do a 10-15 minute warm-up, stretch, workout, cool down (15-20), then stretch again. If I am on an easy day or long run, I sort of just stumble out of the house and into a slow pace for the first 15-20 then pick it up. Always stretch afterwards.

I'm no good at ball sports, hence all the running.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Feb-20-2009 22:06:

Hm, yeah I guess I could keep it to after my runs...cause I always do a 5 minute warmup/fast walk.

FUCK, now I wanna go to the gym. FFS. I've really become obsessed...it needs to stop.

I became a marathon-obsessed asshole about 5 months ago . Bought the Heart-Rate Monitor & Garmin Sat Nav to measure distance traveled and other fancy outdoor calculations. Barely use it now though, but I may get it back into at some point this Summer.

Focusing on gym work though during the cold winter months. Combination of cardio and strength instead.
