thanks so much for your feedback.

i reall like this you get objective ears to hear your music and give you unadulterated (i was just trying to be nice) feedback

Ony 1 non-vocal track? I think this mix needed to be diluted with more non-voval tracks. Its nice when you are listening to a non-vocal track and then a

vocal one. It would be better in my oppinion for the last track to be first
Perfect beatmatching and harmonics.
Overall i liked this mix both musically and technically. Good job.

thanks for the comments... sounds like maybe you would like a tracklist???

here you go

1. playgroup - behind the wheel(dj kicks electrocash mix)
2. probspot - it blows my mind
3. the spoons - nova heart (redanka mix) --- one of my fav tracks from last year just sooo damn good
4. rachel starr - till there was you (g&d 12 step program mix) -- still a HOT tune, especially the breakbeat dropout--unbelievable
5. benz & md - unconditional

i tell you, its weird. i just got a job in the local record shop and immediately got promoted to trance and prog buyer. and i was just shifting away from that sound, now i remember why i loved it so much in the first place.

anyway, if any of you are ever in the ft lauderdale area, come see me at karma records 868 e oakland park.
and if you live in south fl let me know, im trying to put together a 'trance advance' list to let everyone know whats hitting the shelves before it hits

tha nks again for all of your time and scrutiny

and as for last as the first... i dunno that benz and md track has such a wicked kick drum. if you dont have -- get. its tasty

Posted by mr2gti on Jul-18-2005 11:48:

D'oh, I got slapped.

Posted by mr2gti on Jul-18-2005 17:16:

Well, i'm in a fix....

... i'm nowhere near as good as anyone on here at live, basically as I only started it 2 months ago (not a joke - seriously 2 months ago!).

So as I think i'm probably wasting my time attempting to mix against people, i'm going to drop out. I engineer my mixes, I prefer non-live and can do that much much better than Live, due to experience.

Don't anybody worry, no comments will offend, I know i'm crap but at the same time - i'm only just starting out.

Have fun everyone, any up and running comps im in or im judging I will happily carry out

Posted by DJ Mark V on Jul-18-2005 17:20:

aw, dude, we're not competing for some million dollar grand prize, this competition is to give you expereience, that's the entire reason of it.

stick around you've been great so far and brought some good ideas to the table

I hope you decide to stay!

Mark

Posted by d-kristopherre on Jul-18-2005 17:27:

yeah, you already have a one up as you understand the 'math' behind the mix becuase of your experience. just have to apply what you already know. each should make you better at the other

Posted by mr2gti on Jul-18-2005 17:37:

I'll hang about - no probs with that...

It's just that my quality cannot compete at all, it's nowhere near.

Got the mix playing now and i'm cringing and really cannot believe I entered it. Not sure 15/25 is right for the beat matching but I can see why it was said.

I'll just honour my existing entries or judging then i'll be an observer.

If it was Non-live i'd have half a chance.

I think the biggest handicap.... I dont like trance lol. Hard to mix what your not into.

dont need to play trance. the mix i put out against you was rock and roll electro.
anyway, in being a dj, as in life, be true to yourself and you will succeed. it may take a little while longer though

Posted by Rockabye on Jul-18-2005 18:08:

I also think we should rank the djs by their win/loss % instead of their actually number of wins.

With our current system the one with the most competitions could become #1 instead of the one whose really best.

And the guys who are away on holiday & something have the same chances as someone who has a challenge every week.

Which puts me at the very bottom lol.

I'm out lol

Just to let everyone know, i'm back from Ibiza and can now start judging and mixing again!!

Posted by DJ PSYCHOTRANCE on Jul-18-2005 22:36:

@MR2GTI

In the mp3 competitions you judged the last 3. If you can remember my first entry was the Ralph Fridge mix and now look how far I've came in DJ'ing so don't give up. I did'nt think your mix was that bad it was Rockabye who gave you the lowest scores. Your beat-matching was fine - could be a bit better. Your transitions and tracks were too short - you should have played them out more. Also there was too many trance styles in the one mix. If you've only been mixing live for a couple of months then don't expect to make the perfect mix all the time. I would say to you keep at it. If you're using PC DJ i strongly advise you to bin it and move on to Traktor DJ Studio 2.5.3...If you do change over then I'll certainly be able to help you out and use it to it's full capabilities.
Don't be too disheartened, nobody becomes a great DJ overnight.

Paul

yes MR2GTI please don't leave us.

you have potentital! and nothing better can happen to you than getting feedback for your mixes!

and that you are into trance you show when you judge mixes and give feedback.

so please don't leave us, it's just for fun.

Posted by mr2gti on Jul-20-2005 16:42:

I have no faith lol.

Posted by Jay M on Jul-21-2005 11:30:

Hey guys,

I'm posting because I decided to step out of the competition. Main reason for this is I have no time anymore to judge or create mixes for the competition. My spare time (music) goes mostly to production, and here and there some longer mixes atm and the competition just doesn't fit in my schedule.

So Sphere, you can delete my entry from the ranking.

I liked this idea, I hope to see a well grown up competition in a few months Good luck all!

Challange 19 Results

19opponent1

Comments during listening:
-----------------------------------------

Begining effect?! dont like it too much

1-2: Beatmatching is quite a bit off, especially 2:30 - 3:30. Harmonics: dont cross the base back and forth, do it quickly one way or slower to make is sound smoother (as you should for progressive) Also base cut was too long in my oppinion around 4:50
2-3: Interesting way of transitioning which i kinda liked. A lot better then the first transition, altho u should have brought in the melodic part a bit sooner and a bit slower. Should really stop paying around with effects too
3-4: transitioned in the part with no beats on song 3, shouldnt do that. Song 4 came in a bit too loud at first, too much trebble perhaps
4-5: Again transitioned in the quiet part
5-6: Track 6 was brought in a bit too loud among other transition problems
6-7: compared to previous stuff this was almost OK ...

btw at this point you are over the 5-6 song limit so its up to Sphere to decide if he wants to disqualify you for this or count the score. read the rules on front page please.

7-8: around 25:20 the 8th song sounds like static nosise, not really beatmatched, hence transition sounds bad
8-9: smoother transition

Closing comments:
---------------------------------

Mixing with vinyls is tough. Keep pracitcing on beatmatching. Overall i really liked the songs you used, Altho i think the order should have been completely different. You should have started with the downtempo part first and then slowly moved on to faster songs and finished with the song you used in the very beginning. Keep songs playing longer, 3 min per song doesnt do do justice and the listener has to move on to the next song before getting into the current one. Also, dont use efects untill you get better at mixing, i think at this point they make your mix worse rather then better.

Score: (NOTE: 9 tracks in mix)
---------------------------------
Beat-matching: 5/25
Track selection and play order: 22/25 (lost marks for order)
Transition harmonics: 17/25 (lost marks for track #3)
TOTAL: 44/75.... 59%

19opponent2

Comments during listening:
-----------------------------------------

1-2: nice and smooth, near flawless transition
2-3: likeing it so far
3-4: worked pretty well
4-5: around 26:06 and 26:30 it got a bit messy on the beatmatching side.
5-6: all is good....loving the last song

Closing comments:
---------------------------------

Techical part was pretty good. Howerver, the song selection and order was a different story. First 4 tracks were REALLY similar (i didnt say ALL cause i think 5 and 6 got a bit more energy, or maybe it was just me waking up), comon mix thing up a bit :P All songs are nice on their own but all these in same mix are kinda boring. You've got the techincal, now time to work on the creative part of putting toghether a 'mix'.

Score:
---------------------------------
Beat-matching: 23/25
Track selection and play order: 22/25 (lost makrs mostly for play order)
Transition harmonics: 24/25
TOTAL: 69/75.... 92%

WINNER: Opponent2 [I am guessing but this sounds like Sphere's mix ]

Posted by djsphere on Jul-22-2005 17:48:

Bad news guys...I'm gonna have to end this competition due to holiday and some uni work I'll have to do after that. It's been a nice an short one, with a lot of feadback about mixes. Thank you for participating and I'm sorry I have to end it. I'll probably start the old Mp3 DJ Competition in a few months.

Posted by DJ PSYCHOTRANCE on Jul-23-2005 20:03:

@ Venik 19 opponent 2 was me, thanks for the comments.
@ Sphere shame you have to cancel this comp as i was starting to enjoy it. i would have carried it on myself but i am too busy with studies.

Paul

Posted by djsphere on Jul-23-2005 20:28:

Yes, I'm sorry about this too. We'll meat again in the old Mp3 DJ Comp though

Posted by Rockabye on Jul-23-2005 20:31:

If its OK I would make the organisation of this competition.

First I thought the idea behind this competition wasn't good but here you can realy get feedback which is enormous.

I really like this competition it really has potential.

Posted by DJ PSYCHOTRANCE on Jul-23-2005 20:44:

@ Sphere, are you going to let rockabye organise this comp or is it cancelled? just as people know wether to upload there mixes.

Posted by djsphere on Jul-24-2005 05:56:

Sure, anyone can run the competition if he/she wants to. No problem with me.

Posted by djsphere on Apr-22-2007 08:03:

just bumped into some of those mixes. how cool was that?
