agree, took me ages to find a lead sound i liked

Am gonne be honnest with everyone.

As a judge, i wasn't really postive about this remix competition.

I was very critical about many tunes and wrote bad comments. I pmed PDM and asked if i could remove my comments and just keep it as grades ( i did made the grades a bid higher for everyone)

What i noticed with many people is .

lack of atmosphere.
Lack of orgianlity in the beat.
lack of emotion / feel.

And seriously the most pissing off thing , everyone tried to make the most weird lead sounds suddenly :S.

Don't know maybe my taste have changed.

For me the winner is remix 7.

By far the best, but men change the 2 lead sounds a bit

Untill next time

I'm not afraid of your comments, lol, if you want Fahad, you can PM or msg me your comments. And your marks are really appreciated cause judge 2 was really unrealistic in his marks, and look at some differences in marking the remixes. Proves the unprofessionality of judging in this compo.

Don't forget the amateur character of this, Fahad, all just for fun.

Posted by kopi_luwak on Oct-10-2005 18:37:

Congratualtions peep! there were some really good remixes, but I must say that must of them just ripped off the melodie from the MIDI and changed the synth of the melodie LOL, but good work everyone and thanks for the remixes .
And for my buddies, I was honest in my opinion about the tracks, so guys dont get offended if I considered it was bad your remix plz, all was done with good intention .

Your tune is to long, got a bit repetitive.
Your lead is presetish , you gave it totally 0 aspect , didn't stand out or anything. Almost every lead didn't appeal me in this remix competition.

You and J.L i give a bit of compliments of making nice background pad sequences.

Beat to generic also mate.

And as for the beat and lead sound..nearly everyone has that..especially the lead..i think this tune was a wrong choice to remix.

Posted by DC76 on Oct-10-2005 18:53:

Now that you mention it, it was a little awkward for me working with the lead... but I doubt that was what really brought me down, more likely the percs :P That's why I stick to symphonic electronica Gotta love those timpani

Ow!Congrats Ricky.U deserve it.
Can't wait to hear your mix buddy...

I see. Well as for the lead, one could choose to preserve the sound and melody of the original, as in most remixes of a track is the case, so I don't really understand the negative aspects of that. Made some counter melodies in stead of playing with the godlike original one. I do see my lead is a bit thin, but presets of it you wont find.

Anyways, I think judges personal taste involved a lot here. Why would someone remixing this want to change the melody. Especially with a remix like this, with this melody. IMO it's the counter melodies which could then fill up the creativity gap then. I'm not surprised if the judges didn't take this into account...

Posted by Takkra on Oct-10-2005 20:15:

yea.. the melody bored myself so much I wanted to drop out.. then I thought okay fuck that, ill rebuild the melody and make it even more funny. so I also added a rockband breakdown.
fu judges who didnt gave me a 10 for originality ..

.. just kidding man..

I think you have a point here. I noticed that the judges were too much focused on the mainmelody, as if it should be very different from the original or something, but well, this was it, and it was just a so so melody to begin with. I also think that the (in this case not so good imo) mainmelody should be an important part of the remix, and yes it could be changed a bit, but not that much imo, because then you create a whole new and different track. I hope the track for the next competition is a better pick, a track where you can go in some more different directions.

ok, i could have sworn i used some synth pad/saw layers, a bassline, a vocal robotised of myself and a melody played using percussions during the breaks. it sounds as if you only listened to the first minute or two!

sorry it bored you! overall, kopi- your attitude doesnt sound very good.

pdm and the other judges: thanks for your time and effort in judging everyones work. it was a cool few months

massive 84: cheers for your in depth dissection. i agree with what your saying about the inverted bass- i wont use that effect again!

Fuck, I did not want to offend nobody, actually my reviews were done in spanish because I and PDM speak spanish, and the translation sounds harss .
I apologize if someone feels I did sound with a bad attitude, it was not my intention .
My messenger is full of * I though u was my friend*, LOL, I will not judge anymore pfft.

Frienship has nothing to do with this Kopi, you did the right thing, you were honest and you put comments that either harsh or not are helpful to give thoughts to each and every participant.

Yes traslated to english sounds harsh, but I'd rather have someone to tell me the truth even if he's gotta be rude than a guy kissing my ass when in reality my track sucks.

That's the bottom line, harsh or not, you did the right thing to qualify the best and the worst.

My Two cents.

Agreed. It's the intention behind it that counts.

i guess i just took it too personally. i guess if you had known the comments would be posted you would have explained why you felt the way you did about the rmx's. i appreiciate honesty in a review. any particular reasons why you felt the rmx was boring?

Dude, I swear I was giving those comments personally to PDM, did not know they would be posted on the forum, not blaming PDM of course , I am always soft when I give reviews, I can say, I dont like this at all, but sounds good the second part, always balancing, etc, I was giving just my honest feedback to PDM, if I would knopw this would be posted publically I would give the same review of course, but not in that rude way .
I am happy with I did not know the names of the producers participating because I would be nicest , not with the score, with my way to express my comments .
I apologize myself again for the rude attitude, I explained my point, and thanks for the remixes .

<-- finished 10th.. i thought the comments were fine. appreciate the work by everyone.

i got a lot of marks for a 'creative' mix, which was nice. its flaws were pretty well spotted. really, i'm planning on dropping the voyage melody and working on some parts of mix as a track in itself. i started with the melody and it ended up being a melody that didnt fit well with my style. hell, i had rearranged the timing significantly anyway.

Posted by DC76 on Oct-11-2005 01:59:

Heh, I think out of the 4 judges, Bricky liked mine the most of the four. PDM really didn't think much of it, for which I don't blame him, my percs always suck

Oh well, back to remixing VGM :

haha i'm flattered but I'm sure someone else deserved to win more as the score seemed to say

To be honest, i didn't find any of the judges to be unfair as everyone has their own styles and opinion of what "sounds good". Actually, the only thing I think could be improved on is if the judges use a more varied range of scores. I felt there were too many scores from 5-10.

I would actually like to see more of a range from 1-10 where 5 is average... not where 7 or 8 or 9 is the average score...

Other than that, everyone did a good job and judges did great.
