pheek is awesome even if his values do not permit him to acheive his potential success. Trust me he could make the shit craprat makes in 5 minutes...but he doesn't because what he does means something to him. He ain't rich but he makes a living doing what he loves with no compromises. How it used to be imo.

if you haven't noticed bas...most producers are full of shit.
I can't believe I read this whole thread. I've been listening to the set while reading and...I'm pretty bored. Nice to see not every song sounds like "not exactly" and "faxing berlin" which I think were the only 2 deadmau5 songs I'd heard before listening to this mix. Not every song...but a lot of them do. And whoever said he's master of the 1/8th notes or whatever lol. Exactly.
Personally some of his tracks on their own aren't bad like the ones I already mentioned. But all of it together is really boring IMO. I'm not quite sure how he got as big as he is given the lack of variety in his tracks but, people like him so good for him. Like I said, I could dig a track or 2 of his in a set, but this whole set full of nothing but him, is just boring. Sounds like a right place right time sort of thing. He did one thing well, people liked it, so most everything else follows the same pattern.
And I agree with that Armin youtube vid at the beginning of this thread. I don't think anything can ever be that bad. Most boring terrible crap ever. It took longer for the people to program the light show for that song than it took to make the song I'd bet lol.
Anyway, just wanted to give my 2 cents in this amazingly long thread. Deadmau5 is mostly not for me, but somehow, he's made a name for himself.
oh and @deadmau5, if what you did for the EM is what you always do at every...'performance?' (do you ever dj?) then good on ya. People really shouldn't have been surprised. I may not like the set, but, apparently, enough other people like what you do to get you on EM. Congrats.
Sherburne wrote one of the manifestos was ironic... I thought there was more.

he kinda looks 12.

every dj in detroit.
sorry im bored.
Okay now I just finished listening to the set.
I actually liked the last 5 or 6 songs. As similar as they all are, they are pleasing songs, which follows what I said earlier about a deadmau5 song mixed into a set is nice, but 2 hours of it...it just kind of goes nowhere, or...the same place over and over.
Pete Tong "Many many thanks to deadmau5 for the last 2 thrilling hours". meh. not too thrilling. Not bad though if you just want to hear a ton of deadmau5 beats.
Heh, those comments on the BBC page are fun. Are there really that many people with bad taste who are still buying this stuff? One of the comments offers a possible explanation:

Hey Joel, I'm a friendly folk. But I have a question, which came first the TA nickname or the (production) alias? (no pun intended!) just out of curiousity
This thread has reaffirmed the fact that Danny Howells is a genius. Thanks Deadmau5!

Just got round to listening to this. Quite possibly the worst Essential Mix I've ever heard. Atrocious.
I haven't heard any Essential Mixes for about two years now. Which is a shame as I used to follow the show with great frequency. Mary Anne Hobbs and Rob Da Bank are always pulling out creative episodes filled with new and exciting music, EM's vision of dance music has changed (they need to realize this is 2008 not 1999).
Needlessly, a mix that is mostly made up of one's own material sounds pretty bland and boring, in my opinion. On the other hand, I would've adviced for a more eclectic roster. Prefuse 73, Amon Tobin and Clark are all under-rated musicians that would serve the Essential Mix and the BBC well.
