Despite being 4,000km away in sunny California, it didn't take long for the endless trade talk to reach Vincent Lecavalier.

The All-Star centre knows all too well about the intense trade rumours over the last few days involving the Montreal Canadiens, but the Ile Bizard, Quebec native said Monday that all the talk was just that - rumours.

"It has been a week since I have been in California," he explained to Montreal's La Presse late Monday night. "I haven't really followed the rumours. But I have received a lot of calls because of them."

Reports have surfaced over the last week that the Lightning are looking at potential trade suitors for Lecavalier, whose 11-year, $85 million contact extension kicks in at the end of the season. The Canadiens are the most talked about trading partner, with an offer that could include forwards Christopher Higgins and Tomas Plekanec, defenceman Josh Gorges and a package of draft picks.

Lecavalier, who comes from a family of die-hard Hab fans and grew up watching the team, wasn't shy to admit his love for home but also stressed that he was happy in Tampa.

"I love the city of Montreal, I have never hidden that," he told La Presse.

"I am from there. My family is from there. My friends as well. I grew up with the Canadiens. I understand there are a lot of rumours presently. But they are rumours. I have heard them throughout my career. I like playing in Tampa, I am a loyal person."

Lecavalier also indicated that the decision on a trade "are out of my control," and if he had made a short list of the cities where he would like to play, Montreal would be in a good position.

"For sure," he told La Presse.

Meanwhile, Lightning general manager Brian Lawton drew a few raised eyebrows, telling the St. Petersburg Times on Monday night that, "There are no players who are untouchable."

"And that has nothing to do with Vinny Lecavalier," he explained. "That has to do with the status of any team I'm managing. It has to do with our macro goal of being committed to winning, being committed to giving our fans a winner. No player supersedes the goals of any team I'm working on."

Lawton also emphasized - for the second time in a week - that Lecavalier was not being shopped.

"To suggest we're engaging in conversations to trade him or we're shopping him to all teams in the National Hockey League is completely inaccurate," he told the Times. "It's false, egregious and it's abusive toward the player. I can tell you if a player of that stature were ever going to be traded, I would go meet with him, face to face, and discuss the situation. That has never happened."

Why change a winning combination, do we really need Lecavalier?

Apparently all tickets in the upper bowl (whites, greys and blues) are all the same price (~600$/pair for the whole weekend, Saturday and Sunday). Well this is what my friend's season tickets were sold to him for.

As much as I wanted to think Savard was shitting his pants, it was more of a "I'm not gonna take a stupid penalty in the 3rd period, in the offensive zone with my team up by 1". Savard is a really smart player, great playmaker. I'd love him up here.

is that the fight where komi got injured and had to sit out for a long time??

Posted by elFreak on Jan-14-2009 19:30:

no, he doesn't.

He is not there to fight and is to valuable to put in the box for 5 minutes (or get hurt again!). Carbo told him that he is not allowed to fight, just like they used to do with Larry Robinson back in the day.

A nice clean hit > stupid fighting major.

Then your star players will become targets of the Bruins, even if it is clean. Its just the way hockey is. I agree though, Komi is way to valuable to be sitting in the box, leave the fighting to someone else. Just like the Bruins with big Z

funny how ppl get over emotions over reasons...giving so much for Lecavalier doesnt worth it...20% for your team salary...hello what do u have left for other players?

I rather invest in another offensive def...cuz we need to improve the powerplay! Dunno if u guys remember Tom Preissing @ 2.75M or MIke Van Ryn @ 2.9M?

that was to be george lajoke's job.

he will hopefully be great in the playoffs. The season is a diff story, and it is not as important as you make it out to be....not yet.

i think this is going to happen. Possibly not in montreal, but some team is about to get a premier forward.

Make a move Bob. Sooner, rather than later.

Does Carbonneau still have the team? I wonder.

Fat boy Bob Mckenzie on TSN recently "reported" (or made it up?) that the Canadiens are thinking about trading for Boumeester, and possibly trade Markov and a few prospects/picks for Vinny soon after. In all of that though, they're guaranteed to lose guys like Higgins, Plekanec and possibly rookies like D'Agostini, Chipchurra.

habs sux lololol

Posted by kanaBEATya on Jan-30-2009 14:25:

there's no way.

and im really not digesting the habs play this past week. they better not get a spanking against TO.

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Feb-12-2009 06:52:

well, I think I can say, with near certainty that the Habs will not be lifting the Cup for a 25th time come June.

Why did Carbonneau leave Price in for SEVEN goals? Is this Mario Tremblay and Patrick Roy all over again?

This entire team is fucked. Bob better make a huge move soon...if he can.

Posted by malek on Feb-12-2009 07:05:

this sucks major ass, fuckkkkkkkk

Posted by elFreak on Feb-12-2009 12:12:

If Gainey does not do anything soon he ha to be fired.

His coach needs help big time with all of thee heartless euros.

Posted by kanaBEATya on Feb-12-2009 14:37:

what the hell is going on with this team! ever since all the injured came back it messed up all the momentum we had. rrrrrrgh. 3 goals against us when we're in power play in the last 2 games??? unheard of. yak.

Posted by Spin Laden on Feb-12-2009 22:38:

yeah, I figured this team is built to blow out many during reg season but could maybe not do as well in the playoffs due to lack of grit and a need for a fourth d-man

They're only five points from missing of the playoffs (too many injuries?) but they still have a lot of games left (27).

wow, there is so much parity in the NHL, teams can't afford to take one night off, even.
