In part, I agree with you. I should be smarter/wiser. Doesn't mean I think that I am. In fact, I'm sure most of you tend to be smarter than I am and are often wiser beyond your years. I've often found myself taken aback by how spot on a lot of people here are concerning a lot of subjects that I'd like to consider myself more knowledgeable in.

I think in terms of being able to logically argue an idea better than anybody else on this site, Lira takes the cake. This is especially impressive given English not being his native language. He also doesn't appear to try and give the impression of intelligence just by using words that appear to have been recently looked up in a thesaurus.

I like Eddie, and I like the way he posts. Hal is the same in terms of getting a genuine sense of understanding in what they're saying, and not one of the sort who types out long winded rhetoric with no real substance to back it up (i.e. nou, and L4C*)

System-J, while being an obviously clever and knowledgeable person, just comes off as a dick to me. It's not just when it's directed at me, but he has such an air of superiority and condescension with almost everyone he talks to, all of that intelligence and arguing skill gets lost in a sea of "that guy is a cunt."

This is spot on.

Maybe not intentionally, but some people do come across as trying to be a little too cute with their writing. Writing well doesn't mean using words that most people have to look up over and over again to know what the fuck you're talking about.

Some people seem to think otherwise by the way they post.

Again, maybe this isn't intentional - or maybe it is. I've always thought that to myself while reading some of the posts on here, though.

EDIT: I also wanted to add that I'm impressed on a daily basis for the amount of knowledge some of you guys have on such varying topics and issues. I usually don't hold "book smarts" in high regard because of how other things in life can mold and shape a person into being an intelligent and insightful individual, but I do respect it and even envy it a tiny bit.

That being said, I have plenty of years to live and books to read to help me catch up.

To be honest though, that's my greatest fear. Debating is seldom an easy thing to do, because it may be a topic one of the parties feels strongly about, so any misplaced comment can ruin the whole idea exchange. That's why I'm now rarely debating here, as I've been having less and less time to read the views of other people and make sure I'm being fair to them, and I resort so much to humour (in case someone mistakenly believes I take myself too seriously). The few times I tried a different approach, they failed disastrously.

And to this day I sometimes have people tell me I'm condescending or pretentious, which shows I've a long way to go... or that it's inevitable.

Neither. Because the debate was way too heated, and communication was nearly impossible after a few pages.

Do I really come across as someone who wants to be right all the time, and wants to convince others I'm always right? Because, if I do, then it means every single tactic I've ever used failed disastrously... I mean, I don't even think I am right most of time, so a positive answer here would simply stun me.
