yeah, that's pretty accurate actually! its my #1 fave thing about speculative fiction.

I was more than secretly excited that they were releasing The Golden Compass as a film... and that was an epic fail.

And now Disney canned the rest of the series, so it will likely never be done properly! Especially considering the complexity of the last one. It was such an interesting series though, despite the blatant casting of the Catholic Church as mafiosa for God and the insinuation that the Devil is simply an angel doing God's dirty work in a different dimension.

Pullman is an interesting author - I want to bump the old His Dark Materials thread, but RJT won't be there to debate the philosophy behind it anymore.

Posted by yukii on Jun-12-2009 03:11:

word. films usually fuck up the book.

...disney... fffft.. ffffffftttt!

yeah, i know what you mean with the God/devil thing going on- but i think that's crucial FOR the book.. its part of the symbolism.. do you think the book would be the same without it?

Posted by Lebezniatnikov on Jun-12-2009 03:31:

No, it definitely wouldn't. The best part about the book, to me, was the way it turned pre-conceptions about the order of the universe on its head, and how the only one who could see through the veiled nature of good and bad seemed to be Lyra, simply because she was precocious and naive enough to abandon those preconceptions.

Posted by yukii on Jun-12-2009 03:38:

well you see, that's just a different aspect of the book imo

Supposedly a the rom has been leaked on the web though, so if you're a fan of CT, get looking. You can buy a cheap PS2/USB or SNES/USB adapter on Ebay to play it old school on your PC.

I didnt know about this. FFS getting lawyers sent after you so late in the game is a really low blow. Indeed i must seek out this rom if it has indeed leaked. As for playing it, i prefer to keep my snes game with me everywhere i go so i can play them any time i want. SO if i do find it i will play it on my mobile . Not retro, but much more convenient

Also in the last few pages this thread has gone from fail to win. Harry Potter ftw And i have to agree, the books get really good after 3, with no 5 being my favourite. Its the weasleys escape from hogwarts under umbridges nose...that alone makes it work the read

EDIT:
Crap, it seems that CT:CE leak wasnt the 98% beta as people assumed but at least a half year old alpa with several bugs and a serious lack of content. Ah well, i found it, so i may at least give it a try.

For me, nothing beats the end of Book 6. When Dumbledore freezes Harry? I've said too much.

Can't wait to see how it pans out on film. I wish they'd bring back Alfonso Cuaron to direct though - could you imagine all seven films in the style number 3 was shot?

Actually you should create another thread for this Harry Potter fan club BS. Go spam somewhere else if you choose to act like little children.

Oh wait you and the few others posting this garbage are children....my bad.

Carry on, as I sit back and eat my popcorn I am now realizing why you guys have not figured out the reason for 9/11.(or many things for that matter)

Adolescent brain(s) are still developing.

Posted by Lebezniatnikov on Jun-12-2009 20:29:

Ah, yes. Here's the part where the "free thinkers" criticize literature as childish.

Posted by culorut on Jun-12-2009 20:45:

No I am just pointing out that if you choose to talk about Harry Potter you should create another thread instead of spamming this one.

And yes the majority of people who watch or read Harry Potter are children and adolescents.

I much rather read more serious material but then again you are the one reading magic/witchcraft fairy tales. It is really no wonder that you believe in the bullshit official 9/11 story.

Actually I would argue that those of us harry potter fans (and PKC, he's a honorary member since he is into magic and stuff) are proving that we already have a developed analytical mind since we can clearly see which things are incredible awesome (in this case harry potter). The other benefit of an analytical mind, besides from distinguishing good from bad is distinguishing fact from fiction. That's why those, with an analytical mind can look into 911 and deduce facts that tell the truth from fiction which tries to obscure it.

Posted by Lebezniatnikov on Jun-12-2009 20:49:

I prefer my make believe in the Fiction section of bookstores. You prefer your make believe on conspiracy websites. You can't really criticize me for getting enjoyment out of reading about something (magic) for which there's no evidence in reality, can you?

Harry Potter > 9/11 conspiracy

and I didn't even read the books.

OK sure, what ever you just said.

Do you need a translation? I know Mongoose's prose is slightly more elevated than the Harry Potter series.

What exact evidence does the official story have now that it is publicly known that the 9/11 commission covered up and suppressed information right from the start.

If anything is made up it is the official story and 19 hijackers which over threw the worlds most powerful military all on their own. This same military and intelligence has picked up even the smallest of details but when they where forewarned by countless countries and leads everything just suddenly failed? (false flag operation)

Let's not get started on how these hijackers flew modern passenger jets with maneuvers most f-16 pilots cannot pull off yet they could not even steer the Cessna's they were training on in the USA.

Your right, fairy tales are good for one thing. Entertainment.

I'm sure you'v spent a lot of time with fairy tales.

I've never seen bickering employed as a means to solve problems, or debate.. kudos for thinking outside the ol' box.

There have been a few updates recently, the most important one [I believe] being the peer-reviewed paper Active Thermitic Material Discovered in Dust from the 9/11 World Trade Center Catastrophe.

First author of the research is Professor Niels Harrit of Copenhagen University in Denmark, an Associate Professor of Chemistry, an expert in nano-chemistry.

Second author is Dr. Jeffrey Farrer of BYU

..and of course, Steven E. Jones.

More details about the authors here
