I'm sitting in the middle of bicentenial right now, taking a break. Just finished seeing sander, ferry, and armin. All 3 destroyed it, i'm so glad I came to ultra this year!

PvD
I thought PvD was BADASS! Well produced, several PAs, great mixing, he was all into it... what else can you ask from your headliner? I was laughing because I know Tiesto did nothing like that.
Holy shit I'm so fucking tired and sore....it was great! I wish they had Ultra more than once a year.
Yeah PVD tore it up man! When he dropped the Let Go (Vandit Club Mix) I was all over the place lol.
Did anyone like the Carl Cox ending? That was amazing. Pure perfection. I'm really sore.

You mean Ashley Tomberlin. Yeah I didn't like her performance.
So yeah the 2nd day was great minus the dirt. I'm still recovering from it.
Second Sun, Sander van Doorn, Ferry, Armin, and PvD were great. I also enjoyed Calvin Harris, Moby and some of Pete Tong.
Don't worry I have the pics and videos uploaded soon.
anyone know if Digitalism ever played Friday night? They were supposed to be on from 11-12 but as of 11:45 had not gone on. We took off. I know they were there because I got a picture with them during MSTRKRFT. I wonder what was the deal?
From what I saw at Ultra:
Eric Prydz - Only caught the last three tracks but he sounded great and sounded like the crowd loved him.
Justice - Was very dissapointed in that set. It was crap in my opinion. Mixing wasnt that great and tracks werent top notch. Some good mostly bad.
Tiesto - NEVER AGAIN! Already reviewed tiesto on the poll thread.
Jes - wasnt bad. Mic was crappy with pick up
Enur - RIP original singer. Didnt know them besides the what is now the new dance single for the next 10 years haha. It was fun live-ish for two tracks. Opening for the stage
Moby = Amazing. First time catching his set. Didnt know what he is like live but it was great - and the tent was off the fucking hook.
Calvin Harris - Better than the killers imo. Not a big alternative indie emo electric rock... whatever that genre is, but it worked also for opening. And the actual electro sounds werent bad. Vocals sounded the same though as every band in this genre.
Union Jack - Downtempo psy... not sure what it is really. The sounds are real simple - mostly sytrus oscillations. Would have liked a harder psytrance act.
Sander Van Snooze - YAWN. Not my thing at all. I know its many peoples favorite at the moment but I cant do minimal and there were no highs at all really in his set. Just bass and i dont dance to basslines - rather melodies are what does it for me.
Ferry FUCKING corsten - mind blowing. My favorite that night. Wish it was longer. It was just like the TE set, just 50 minutes instead of 2 hours or so but every song worked for me. Glad he played the violin rework as well
Armin Van Buuren - toss. Started slow and worked his way up. I think the middle was the best and then his latest track at the end was a great ending. But I dont think he should have tried to go for a flow by progressing given its a festival slot of an hour and a half.
Underworld - NEVER AGAIN! Just as bad as tiesto. Everyone hyped them up... and i want to know where that hype came from. Are you kidding me? If i needed an all natural sleep medicine, underworld would be that. And lighting and stage... what crap. The pills didnt make shit exciting, was rather retarded. The majority was dark lighting and slow. Waste of green to get them imo.
Paul Van Dyk Live - Right up there with Ferry's set. This set was remarkable. I am a huge live fan, and this one did it proper. PVD did great on the tracklist for the extras and had a great show on the midi. Not sure what the keyboardist did since pvd did most of it. Loved the singers. One thing ive always wanted to see done right. Mad props to PVD and Ultra for getting this together.
As for Ultra - mad respect this year for throwing it down. Main stage was off the hook. Loved the led tarps. I mentioned before the show they should have a massive screen all over instead of two screens and the tarps did the trick. It added a lot. Also the smoke was great - it was a lot and was strong. Added for a cool effect with the tarps. Sound was great. Bass at times was off, but didnt take long to get it corrected. Volume could have been higher main stage. Other outdoor stages were great as well on both production for lighting and setup and sound. Carl cox tent hands down was a winner again. Amazing sound in there and lighting was WOAH!
One day of Ultra is enough for me though for next year. Id still go to Ultra for the festival experience since its rare in the states, but so far one of the two days doesnt do it for me - from this year and last year... cough friday cough. But it might be for others so not attacking it there.
^ +1
i think armin tried to sort of condense his longer sets that he plays into 1 hr 30 and i had a mixed reaction to it. I loved a lot of his songs, but i think he should have just picked up from when ferry left off and kept on going with the harder stuff instead of starting with progressive tracks, cause i think the progressive kinda put the crowd to sleep a bit. that and it was FREAKING HOT OUT. i was sweating balls out there
1st Day
Was owned By Prydz
(thats alll i got to say)
2nd day
Armin , ferry , Sander van doorn , Fedde , Dirty South.
Pvd : Loved his Live Performance.... but not my thing... very impressive i just like when he does a regular Dj set and when he drops his own Live Reworks of other ppl tracks ... pvd performance was pretty much the whole in Btwn album.
ultra overall was really good im glad its over...
Sleep mode ON

its funny because I thought Underworld was amazing. Even better than 2003 Ultra. The new singles (Crocodile, Beautiful Burnout) sounded great. I didn't stick around for PVD or Tiesto so I can't compare. Saturday I didn't even bother coming until 630. I never thought I would be that person but I was so tired, it was hot and there wasn't much I wanted to see. Would have liked to check out Ferry but thats about it. Caught Moby and that was great. He ended with Welcome To The Jungle!!
here is my quick review of what I saw
Friday (the good day of Ultra)
got there just after 4 but the gates weren't open yet. Long line.
Once we got in we walked around, checked out Junkie XL. Pretty good way to start the night. Then hit Boys Noize and he was awesome like usual, although the left speakers kept going out in the begining. Stumbled upon Zabiela and he tore it up. Read the One+One review thread for more on that.
Went to BT because it was a live act and it was pretty awesome, except the sound mixing was terrible for the first few songs. Mics were going out. There was a drummer and Jan Johnston sang 3 songs, BT sang a few more and it was a good set. Too bad the Tampa/Orlando shows are canceled now.
Caught the end of Justice and I thought it was good. You have to realize they aren't going to be playing the latest and greatest, they are going to play what they want. The Pendulum remix of Prodigy followed by some old 80s track was a great way to finish up. Ended the night with MSTRKRFT and (would have been) Digitalism.
Saturday - didn't get there until 630.
end of Freestylers set - good
Moby - good
Underworld - awesome
I now see why a lot of people don't do Ultra when they had down there. If Underworld wasn't there saturday I would have definitely gotten rid of my ticket. Have to keep that in mind next year, I had way more fun at all the other parties during the week than at Ultra.

| Originally posted by DPetey81 DITTO! I spent less than an hour there on Friday, and about four hours there on Saturday. Besides the Carl Cox tent, I wasnt really into anything going on. I like a lot of the DJs, but the vibe just doesn't do it for me compared to a club. Plus, there are just way too many kids around; sporting glow sticks, green hair, and sucking on pacifiers. All in all, though, I think it's still a good event, but just not for everybody. I will definitely debate over going either day next year. I sure do luv Carl Cox in the tent, though |
Will write a review about my 2nd Ultra this weekend.
It was very great, especially the 2nd day. In my opinion the music was much better than the first day.
Recorded 49 videos in total of both days
Going to put them in 1 video.
