Arsenal full-back Armand Traore has joined Portsmouth on a season-long loan.

The 18-year-old Frenchman is highly-rated at Emirates Stadium, and will look to gain valuable first-team experience during his time at Fratton Park.

Traore's switch to Harry Redknapp's side follows Arsenal's surprise capture of experienced defender Mikael Silvestre from Manchester United on Wednesday.

The attacking left-back, who can also operate in midfield, recently penned a new long-term contract with the Gunners.

yeah. Downside is that city now have 5 very good centre backs, ie. Dunne, Richards, Onohua, Ben-Haim and you could maybe count Corluka, alongside Kompany.

Thats exactly what i was thinking when i saw it. Onuoha and Corluka are more full backs but still buying both Ben-Haim and Kompany after the fantastic season Richards and Dunne had last year it seems a little strange when money could be spent elsewhere for them

Yeah, especially when they don't seem happy with garrido at left back and lack depth in other places...

I honestly think we'll see Corluka moved infront of the 2 centre backs (dunne & kompany) with richards at right back & ben-haim at left back where he's ok but not awesome. He'll be hammered by wingers like ronaldo milner ashley young etc but against teams that lack pace out wide he'll be fine.

real madrid have given up on keeping robinho and are letting chelsea take him.

This guy has huge potential, and I think he could become one of City's better buys over the past 2 years.

In Hamburg we waited for 2 years to see more of him than just "potential". And he's always injured, just 29 games in 2 seasons.

watching him make his debut live at the moment...... He's being played in midfield as the holding player ahead of Richards & Ben-Haim

Yeah, it must have been frustrating. But he's still only 22, so neutral fans (like myself) can still have hope.

But at least we used the money from the deal to sign Alex Silva out of Sao Paulo.

everton sign Lars Jacobsen

pavlyuchenko signing for spurs for 12M - that should be berbatov's que to go to man utd.

Posted by DRM on Aug-27-2008 16:46:

Looks like Riera is close to signing for Liverpool. Not sure what I think of that one yet. Think I need to see him playing for us before I make a judgement

Done deals:

Marcel Jansen from Bayern Munich to Hamburger SV for 8 Million .

Alex Silva to Hamburger SV for 6,5 Million .

Nearly done:

Thiago Neves to Hamburger SV for ~8 Million .

Posted by Ian on Aug-31-2008 12:58:

Pablo Zabaleta completes move from Espanyol to Man City for 6.8mil which to me signals the end of Corluka and also says Hughes doesn't have much faith in Onouha, someone I'd love us to get in & sign, even on loan.

Bolton sign Ebi Smolarek from Racing on loan with 3million deal agreed if he impresses, with Ricardo Vaz Te going on loan to Racing. Expected to free up the space for Zigic to return to Santander.

Posted by Rockabye on Aug-31-2008 14:29:

Thiago Neves now officially in Hamburg.

wow what a seson this could be: Rost - Jansen, Mathijsen, Alex Silva, Boateng - de Jong, Jarolim - Neves, Trochowski - Olic, Petric

Posted by Ian on Sep-01-2008 09:11:

Atletico reject 8million bid from Bolton for Maniche
Corluka joins spurs
Xisco to Newcastle from Deportivo la Coruna
Riera deal should be completed to Liverpool

and many more deals expected to be completed today since it's the deadline day

laugh all you want, if this Abu Dhabi company is serious they could easily outspend the lot, and as chelski have shown, the title can be bought these days. They were nothing more than a second rate side in london in the shadow of Arsenal & even Spurs before Roman made them his new toy.

I'd hardly say I need to do research, it's been on every sports channel or newspaper in the country over the last 24hrs.

I couldn't care less about the investors, they still won't make the champions league for years to come, so the move only goes to prove robinhio has one motivation.

Posted by trewqy on Sep-02-2008 18:25:

Why do u say that?

Chelsea wasnt anywhere near regular CL before abramovich came in.. he bought in a good coach mourinho and poof.. he won the premiership first season.
