Also, how do I create a link so that you can just click play via the message? Rather than having to click the link?

So much non-trance crap in this thread

Time for some incline from '93

And '96

And '94

32 pages later and I'm wondering why no one has included these essential trance classics:

And if I have to pick a personal trance favorite it could very well be:

Heard this one GTG from John 00 Flemmings forthcoming album. Havent heard such a good trancetrack in a long time.

Wow - I didn't know Flemming sucks so hard nowadays.
Sound just like your typical "trance" shitpop with HUEG PAD BREAKZ

I dont agree with you at all. Its a great dreamy progressive builder. Doesnt sound like anything produced from latest year that people call trance today. What is it in the track that sound so popish?

Posted by identity7 on Jul-23-2011 22:27:

You have your typical "progressive" beat. Then you have huge annoying screaming pad break in the middle that much like in any generic uplifting "trance" tune is designed to hurt ears instead of sound "dreamy". The only difference between this tune and all other commercial tunes like this one is that Flemming didn't use supersaws.

Here's how you do same things right:

Good track, but there is no absolute right formula for how you do things "right".

And still, i dont agree with you at all. The pad/melody isnt annoying at all in my opinion. You say that the only difference with this track and generic uplifting trance isnt that he doesnt use supersaws. The buildup, drums, effects etc doesnt sound like generic uplifting asot-trance to me at all. If you listen to melodic asot trance there is no focus on making a good and interesting buildup, no focus on atmosphere and effects, no focus on anything exept to make it energetic with a hard kick and a cheesy melody wich only works on the dancefloor. The track that i posted reminds me a little of airwave from late nineties.

And keep in mind that the version from youtube is just a rip from his show so the quality isnt that good.

Look up the word TRANCE. wHAT DOES IT MEAN?? SHUT THE FUCK UP AND ENJOY THE MUSIC.AND IF YOU DONT LIKE THAT MUSIC THEN DONT LISTEN TO IT!!!TRANCE IS WHAT YOU WANT IT TO BE. THIS TRANCE IS BETTER BECAUSE I LISTEN TO THIS TRANCE .... FUCK ALL THAT!!! TRANCE IS TRANCE.IS THE TRANCE I LIKE(UPLIFTING) BETTER THEN THE TRANCE YOU LISTEN TOO (PROGRESSIVE TRANCE)? NO

Posted by chadi on Jul-27-2011 19:32:

It's hard to believe this tune is from 1990 - sounds fresh and is simply mindblowing:

Another one of my favorites:

Timeless

And for some dancefloor hypnotic bliss:

People invent names for genres but genres are not rigid, they change all he time. They are not objective descriptions of truth. There is no
objective "trance-meter" that demonstrates the amount of objective "tranceness" in a tune, trance is only what people say to be and so uplifting trance happens to be a sub-genre of trance. "Trance" is just a "name" invented in germany for a german type of techno and even back then there were substantial variations under that name.

You make some very good points.

I don't like the term pop trance. To me, this is what that should describe:

Yet that's not what people are describing. They often mean Dash Berlin, whose stuff is a lot less radio-friendly, IMO. I like these two songs, by the way, although I consider "Heaven" very cheesy.

Perspectives vary. Some people feel that because trance has slowed, it became house. I don't agree with that, either. Any attempt to delineate the difference between genres -- an inherently fluid concept -- will be oversimplification, but to separate trance from house merely on tempo is overdoing it. And trance is still generally faster than house.

Much of today's house music is vastly different from 1980s house. A lot of what passes for jazz today sounds very little like the "St. Louis Blues."

Parents and grandparents will often tell you about the "real" music of their time and how yours is the less authentic version. I often feel like the same thing happens with trance.
