there are several giant dirt lots. you can't miss 'em. parking here is actually easy. you do have to pay for it, though.

I agree. I'm sorry, but MEH. Only reason I'm still going is to support Simon. Pure let down on the time slots. Sick of this cosmic gate and CL shit. At least don't give them time slots like they get. I understand they have a following, but MEH. COOOOOOME ON. CL is awesome and I understand what "he's done" and blah blah, but his last set at beyond was kind of zzzzz. The ETARDS want showtek, the etards get showtek

I guess you missed CL and JOOF at Avalon in Jan. It was mind blowing...

From the Beyond Wonderland website

Christopher Lawrence has teamed up with Perfecto's Suzie del Vecchio to create a chest pounding trance piece, aptly titled 'A Little Rush'. This track has been making dance floors bounce everywhere since its release in December. Christopher has just informed us that Suzie del Vecchio herself will be at Beyond Wonderland to do a live vocal performance of 'A Little Rush' during Christopher?s set. Make sure you are at the Madhatters Castle stage at 8:45pm to 10:00pm so you can catch this performance.

The Festival is Taking Shape

The massive tent has been raised and the stages are coming together. The size of the tent is astonishing. No sound can be heard coming from the subs yet but the attention of the sound techs has moved from stacking the speakers to wiring them together. So far only one of the art installations has a recognizable form, but they all have creative minds swarming around them. Trucks full of food, lights, fencing, and even ice can be seen making their way through the entrance. The NOS center is alive with activity and Beyond Wonderland is growing closer to completion.

Anyone know if there will be a coat check? Forty percent chance of rain and overnight low of 45F...brrr

Posted by bscarbro on Mar-19-2011 13:56:

I live about 20 minutes West of San Bernardino and it was raining pretty good on my way to work this morning. Hopefully it stays dry for the most part this afternoon/evening.

regardless.... I'm looking forward to tonight!!!

What about an object to throw at the stage when showtek and infected mushroom are on?

I am sure some crazy person will try to get on stage when infected is on! Seen it before!

Anyways... I am super excited about tonight! I am still going to rock my outfit despite the cold and rain!

haha, not even the house stage has it this time?

I'm telling you, the 18+ thing is hitting Insomniac's wallet and they're having to cut back, whether they say so or not.

EDC Vegas will probably be ridiculous, though.

Posted by Paul Anthony on Mar-20-2011 07:01:

yeah vip areas in the main room but u had to buy the liquor lol the only vip w booze was in the entrance. one drink minimum long ass line. who the hell goes to a party to drink in the front entrance. FAIL

Posted by fantasyexctasy on Mar-20-2011 08:30:

Fuck you insomniac you crooked pieces of shit, i'll never attend another one of your events, 5 bartenders total for vip for the entire event, fuck you, I want my money back, bunch of shady pieces of shit. Pasquale if you read this fuck you and your piece of shit company. I left because of how poorly the vip area was orchestrated. The music sucked other than the techno and dnb, ridiculously good. I'll stick to clubs from now on, no matter how good the lineup is.

Ps fuck you insomniac

Yeah, VIP was totally not worth it. At Nocturnal there were maybe 1 to 2 people in line in the front VIP area for drinks. For Beyond, the drink lines were terribly long. I was also in shock when I found out that the drinks in the VIP area in the Queen's Domain were not free. Plus the VIP area was so far back it didn't really give that great of a view.

Short review -

Bad:
- Only VIP drinks in the front area, which is not close to any stages and long drink lines.
- They closed the Madhatter's Castle at 10PM(?). I left Christopher Lawrence to go check out Dirtyphonics and then when I came back to check out Cosmic Gate they weren't letting anyone in.
- The sound in the Madhatter's Castle was way too loud. The bass was ear damaging even with ear plugs. Even the Drum and Bass stage didn't have that much bass. Maybe it was the songs CL was playing in the beginning, but besides wanting to check out Dirtyphonics, I had to get out of that stage because of the sound. I would have stayed though if I knew I wouldn't be able to come back

Good:
- There was no VIP entrance line at 5:30PM while the GA line looked kind of huge. I don't know how long it would have taken to get in from the GA line.
- I thought the production of the stages was okay. At least they made the trance area a little more impressive than at Nocturnal. At Nocturnal it was such a huge difference between the house stage and the trance stage.
- There were enough DJ's to keep me busy while I couldn't get back into Madhatter's Castle.

I was having a great time until a little before 10, was checking out Paco Osuna's set and came back to the mad hatter stage for Cosmic Gate, but the entrance doors were locked shut. Waited a half hour and then they put barracade fences up, and kept telling everyone to move back. Problem is when you moved back, other people would squeeze in front of you.

At one point, this lady security staff yells out "you must form a single line," and everyone's looking around like wtf, as the crowd is 100 people across and 200 people deep! Then after I was two people from the front on the right, they opened the barricades on the left. Another 15 minutes and I was literally next to go in, when the security guy pushes me back, and they closed the barricades and shut the doors again. At that point I left since CG would only be on like 10 more minutes, and it felt unsafe being in that area anymore (images of Love Parade 2010 came to mind).

From that point on, I never heard any music that could keep me in a stage for more than 10 minutes. Still can't figure out why people go so crazy over Kaskade. Oh, the madhatter stage was practically wide open again when Infected Mushroom was on, and there's a reason for that! Wasn't impressed with Show Tek either.

On the good side, I did not buy a VIP ticket this year, and the bars were serving premium alcohol for $2 more. Fair enough, premium drinks were the same price as in a nightclub. The reusable water bottles were great too, and good for the environment.

Insomniac needs to realize that Trance has a much larger following than they allow space for. The Techno stage and Trance stage should have been switched imo, I don't think I ever saw the Techno stage more than half full. Not knocking Techno here either, I like a lot of it.

EDC Vegas? Maybe. Show me a solid Trance & Progresive lineup devoid of zombies singing into the mics all night. Maybe.

i had fun. saw alot of familiar faces. good stuff

Posted by Quazar on Mar-20-2011 14:49:

Wow, that sucks.

Look, Insomniac, the people that buy the VIP tix are the ones who don't bring pills in, don't fuck up the event, and don't put bad press in the LA Times. Screwing them is fucking counter-productive. You need to pamper the VIP people, not cut back their fucking benefits.

EDC Vegas is gonna be a clusterfuck. I really have no desire to go now. In line at Avalon tonight, there were some peeps talking about how "awesome" EDC Vegas was gonna be. They were all e-tards who kept saying "I hope Deadmau5 is there!".

Have fun with that.

As for Digweed, he was awesome. Left Avalon at 7am and he was still spinning.

So who caught Richie Hawtin? Was he awesome?

This is directed to trance fans:

Simon is the man! Tech bombs the whole set. Loving it. If you don't like him you have fucking aids in your brain. I mean honestly? How much vocal, melodic "progressive fake ass electro" trance can you stand in one night? LOL I mean honestly. Now I can't wait for a handy dandy to come on saying how great cosmic gate's/moore's set was (maybe because they only know cosmics track listings because they play the top 40 of trance? hahaha) and then say how Simon is too fast and repetitive.... Play in fire. Anyway on a side note, did I hear CL drop a dubstep song or two? FUCK I hope I'm wrong.

Great production Insomniac and good way to handle lines, at least when I was in line. On another side note, I felt like I was in Mexico last night hahahahahahaha. Is raving cool to the younger Mexican crowd now a days? Or has Cali got that bad? Fuck I said it

Posted by Paul Anthony on Mar-20-2011 17:28:

other than the vip the party was sik. the production in the trance was better than nocturnal. sets of the night had to go to simon and christopher lawrence. simon kept interacting with the crowd. cosmic gate was too dreamy im kinda over them.
