Basically I'm sick of you talking like you're some kind of expert on this matter. A freak series of events that causes a disaster like this doesn't mean "someone fucked up." It's called fucking nature, and it's unpredictable in some cases. Saying that nuclear power should be abandoned because of this is the most retarded thing I've ever heard, but it doesn't surprise me at all coming from you.

You build something to last for 100 years knowing that it will be outdated in 50. But you still build it. And you build it at today's standards...

What they could have done is a little upgrading maybe. Protected those generators a little more. Things like that...

But unfortunately, it takes a negative event to force action. That's human nature and it will never change..

Agreed, they could have taken some measures to at least protect the generators but the problem is, is it possible to do that when the plant is already built? do you shut it down for an upgrade or do you simply relocate to a new plant and shut this one down? it may be more expensive to upgrade than to build a new one.

it reminds me of shea stadium in queens ny, instead of restoring an old stadium they just built a new (citifield) right beside it on a nearby parking lot, when it was ready they demolished shea and turned it into a parking lot. I know it's not the same but similar concept, one may be cheaper than the other.
