They are always extra detailed! Even when I'm in a rush! Anyway, here it is:

Mix 1

4/4pts Intro Track

Very good beginning and energy for an intro track. The shortness of the track was good and it kept the intro exciting.

7/10pts Consistent Beatmatching

Your second transition was off on several counts by Ill recoup it all in this section. First off, it wasnt phrasematched by at least 8 beats. Second, it wasnt beatmatched and third, it wasnt equed properly at all. If you are going to mix a track in that early, you need to reduce the highs and mids before you slam home the cue tracks melody. The 6th transition was pretty bad for beatmatching. The phrasematching was good, but you werent able to correct for the beatmatching at all after a good 30 seconds. The cue track was too fast. The matching was off on the last track too. You were in general, very good with beatmatching, but when you were off, you were way off!

9/10pts Consistent Phrasematching

The phrase matching was off by a bar or two in your third transition. The 4th transition was phrasematched quite well, kudos. In general it was well phrasematched.

8/10pts Track Key Matching, Volume Matching and Gain Structure

The volume levels on transition 1 could have been better. Especially after the transition, the volume increased more than it should have. Though I say that, it was a good transition, Im just knit picking. Going into your third track, the phrasematching was off, but you could have compensated by reducing the rhythm volume (highs and mids)you didnt. I think that the volume could have been a little bit louder on the 4th transition. The eqs needed to be used on the last transition too.

8/10pts Track Selection

The tracks were all pretty good. The ones that were really good and carried the set were mostly the popular epic tracks that we have all come to know and love. The new ones or new mixes (to me) helped the set along nicely too. I think that the overall energy of the set was good and consistent but the last track took away from it. It is an overplayed track and I think that it stole energy from your set because it is too overplayed, and it doesnt have enough energy to finish up your set.

7/10pts Mixing Style/Originality

I really liked the 5th transition as far as originality goes. It was a very long transition and it worked incredibly well. The tracks were meant for each other. The set carried well, but nothing that was really incredible for me. I think that you can mix in your tracks a whole chorus earlier. It would speed up the set and help maintain the energy.

4/5pts Sound Quality

There were several stereo sound defects in your set. The first couple were in your second track and they went on from there. It seemed like the same error like a bad wire connection throughout, so I will only dock you one point. Everything else was good except for the fact that the bass was lacking from most of your set.

1/3pts Effects

I only hear one flanger as you exited the set.

5/5pts Track Order

From the tracks that you have selected, I think that you put them in a very good order.

1/3pts Exit Track

I think that the way you exited the set was kind of poor. You cut out just as the next chorus was about to hit its peak! It is an okay track for giving the crowd a rest, if that is how you wanted to end your set.

Total = 54/70 = 77%

Mix 2

4/4pts Intro Track

The set picks up quickly and nicely.

9/10pts Consistent Beatmatching

Beatmatching wasnt on during the first transition, though it was very short and you cut it well, considering that the beats were off.

8/10pts Consistent Phrasematching

The 4th transition wasnt phrasematched. It was off by 4 beats. So was the 5th transition.

9/10pts Track Key Matching, Volume Matching and Gain Structure

The first track is a bit weak in highs and mids. Equing could be used to better this. The volume increased a bit too high during the last track.

8/10pts Track Selection

The track flowed very well with each other and there was continuity between the beginning and the end. As with the first set, there was nothing really special about the track selection, but it was mostly new or refreshing to me and better than the first.

8/10pts Mixing Style/Originality

The timing on your 2nd transition was good, though I think that you could have done better by bringing up the volume on the cue track a little bit more a bit earlier. As with the first set, I think that you can mix in your next tracks a bit earlier.

5/5pts Sound Quality

No problems here.

1/3pts Effects

None that I could hear, but just incase

5/5pts Track Order

Given the tracks that you selected, you did a very good job.

3/3pts Exit Track

The ending track gave the whole set continuity because of the same sound samples as in the intro track. It didnt end like a typical track.

Total = 60/70 = 86%

I think that both sets were pretty comparable, but the second set has the advantage both technically and artistically. The second set has few technical mistakes like beatmatching and phrasematching. The second set also flows better than the first. Picking the next track is one of the most important aspects of Djing, and set two can do it better than set one.

I declare that set 2 is the winner!

Hey thanks for judging flesh, and for your detailed explanations

As for this I just anted to mention that the failed beatmatch-parts were all where a vinyl was involved. I started with cd's and I only have one tt so for now vinyls is my weakest part (but I'll be getting a 2nd tt in about 3 weeks yay!)

And as for the sound problems, I noticed they come from my left channel (to a cdj). SO I just placed a new wire between them, I hope that solves it (otherwise it's either my cdj or my mixer )

Congratz tommyd!

I will fix that later today. Did you get a loss reported against you as well then? Also, did Nabistai get a win reported for him?

Posted by tommyd on Aug-02-2003 16:43:

problems

no losses just sin binned i think, thanks

Posted by Nabistai on Aug-02-2003 16:44:

Posted by tommyd on Aug-02-2003 23:34:

off topic!

off topic but wow, i just sold MOTORCYCLE AS THE RUSH COMES for 75 on E-bay, what a place!

Posted by Dj Flesch on Aug-03-2003 01:53:

Okay, I think that I fixed the problem. I reported the Loss for Nabistai and the Win for TommyD. If there are any problems with this or if Nabistai already reported the loss let me know what each of your records should be. I'll take your words for it

Posted by Mister_Michel on Aug-03-2003 08:28:

Yes I already reported the loss, and then it said 'Nabistai challenged TommyD and was defeated' (tommyd challenged me). It's 0-3 now but it should be o-2

Posted by Dj Flesch on Aug-03-2003 15:37:

Okay, the ladder should be correct now, let me know if there are any problems! I made one major change as well, I increased the formal challenge time to two weeks. It seems that too many people are running out of time due to not being able to coordinate everything within one week. This will give everyone more time and less pressure!! Let me know what you think, and feel free to offer any suggestions on how to improve the ladder!

Thx

Good thing you changed it to 2 weeks because sometimes there are periods where there is absolutely no time free in a week
