Although Inter won, I hope Adriano's shooting coach has a word with him! Geesh!

Ajax missing Sneijder hurt them badly. It was like watching Arsenal play on their bad day. Broken passes, lack of fluidity, defensive mess up.

Worth watching just for that Stankovic goal.

Ajax and the dutch leauge is the feeder team for most of italy, england and spain. The money just isn't in holland and they leave when they get the chance. Its too bad but its true

COME ON YOU GUNNERS! Take It to that judas vieira. I will never stop smiling, if he left arsenal to win the champions league, and his former knocked his ass out of the competition.

W00t w00t fuck Juve.

^^haha yea im hoping for the same...just like Michael Owen was made to rue his decision to move to Real with liverpool winning the CL last yr...although it would be a lot sweeter if Arsenal kicked Juve out of the competition.

one question tho...why are the games listed at 1:30 pm live when the UEFA website has 20:45 GMT as match time (2:45 pm like always)?

Daylight savings in Europe starts one Sunday before us (the last Sunday of March). The games are actually at 20:45 CET (ie: Paris) which is -07:00 for us (EST) right now.

vieira didn't voluntarily leave arsenal rather, it was wenger who sold him to juventus because he figured 14 million pounds was a good amount to cash in on vieira and he has publicly admitted that he made a mistake by doing so. I still dont understand why he would sell his captain who is probably as important to the team as henry without first having a replacement in mind. Fabregas and Flamini have a lot of potential but it will be atleast a couple of years before they can play at the same level.

Now on to the predictions:

1) Arsenal vs Juventus - My most despised teams in England and Italy respectively should provide an entertaining clash neverthless. Arsenal play all out attacking football while Juventus soak up the pressure and are fantastic on the counter attack. Juventus is going to win the scudetto for sure this season and Arsenal seem to be gelling well as a team and are playing by far their best football of the season. However, I reckon Juventus are going to be to much for Arsenal to handle and will end their fairytail run in the CL. Juventus to win 2-1 at highbury and 1-0 at the Del Appi

2) Benfica vs Barcelona - Benfica might have got the better of Manchester United and Liverpool but no question about it, barcelona are going to thrash them. Barca to win 2-0 away and 3-0 at the Nou Camp

3) Inter vs Villareal - With United and Madrid out, im hoping Inter wins the whole thing. Villareal are performing badly in the Primera Liga but seem to get it together when they play in Europe. Adriano has not been in the best of form in recent times and this will be the perfect opportunity for him to get back his scoring touch. Riquleme should be the biggest threat Inter need to worry about and should they curtail his attacking runs, they should go through to the next round with relative ease. Inter to win 2-0 at the San Siro and drawing 1-1 in the away game.

4) Lyon vs Ac Milan - IMO this is going to be the greatest tie of the quarters. Milan are shaky in the Serie A but seem to get their act together in the CL. Lyon on the other hand have never been an easy team to beat and have had some impressive runs in Europe in recent years. Juninho is going to miss the first game and that might just turn out to be a huge loss for Lyon since Milan's defence is one of the best in the world and Juninho's freekick abilities would have been a constant threat to the Milan goal. I think this one is going to go right down to the wire and may even be decided in penalty kicks. But i say Lyon to win 2-1 at home with Milan going through to the semis with a 3-1 at the San Siro.

i predicted that final last year. people didn't seem to understand much about what lyon brings to the table. maybe after they walk over ac milan people will understand who juninho pernambucano really is.

Posted by Yohan on Mar-28-2006 04:00:

1 Arsenal FC (ENG) v Juventus (ITA)
-If Arse plays like they did against Real, no problem for them. But if they go back to the form they were earlier this season and collapse defensively as they have done before, Juve wins.
Predicting Henry trying to take over the game, only to run into a wall called Viera.
Juve wins

2 Olympique Lyonnais (FRA) v AC Milan (ITA)
-Probably the most interesting and potentially most exciting matchup.
I really, really want Lyon to win because I think they do deserve it. But no Juninho (suspended for first leg) means they will be hard pressed to come up ahead after first leg at Stade Gerland and Milan usually eats up opponents at Meazza. Again, one slip up from Lyon and Milan wins.
Milan wins

3 FC Internazionale Milano (ITA) v Villarreal CF (ESP)
-Villarreal struggled against Rangers and always inconsistent, esp. Riquelme and Forlan. Inter is the weakest of 3 Italian teams, but they have definitely more quality than Villareal.
Inter wins.

4 SL Benfica (POR) v FC Barcelona (ESP)
-On paper, looks like Barca will thrash Benfica, but Benfica did have some huge results against big English teams. Then again, they are facing Barca not some English team so Barca without Puyol for first leg should win easily. Benfica don't have much to stop Ronaldinho from shredding their defence
Barca wins

Well, walk over would be one helluva shock. As great as Lyon is playing in Ligue 1 right now, they are not that strong without Juninho. But yeah. second game, I expect Juninho to cause lots of havoc with freekicks against Milan who does have trouble defending in deadball situations.

2morro aft gonna be crazy .. hope to rush down to a bar shortly after work..

i know what you mean and i didn't mean to say walk over b/c i know it wont happen. as much as i have loved lyon this year (their style of football) plus the fact how i hate milan, i still agree with you that in the first leg, without juninho, that is the key problem for lyon and it will most likely be a scoreless draw or 1-1 in lyon which means second leg at home for milan where they barely lose, it will be hardpressed for lyon to win even with juninho. i'm cheering for them, however i think you're right. 1-1 in lyon. 0-0 in milan. milan advance on away goals. something gay like this will happen. but i hope juninho demolishes them at guiseppe miazza!

0 Barcelona 0 Benfica (End of first half)

Entertaining game so far. Barca is missing so many chances given away by Benfica's goalie! Van Bommel is playing really well but needs to finish better. I have the feeling Barcelona underestimated Benfica.

Posted by Yohan on Mar-28-2006 19:37:

Van Bommel is a playmaker, not a finisher

Good game so far Arse leading Juve 1-0 at half time with a fabulous strike from 18yr old Fabregas.

Exactly! if he's going to take a chance and try to finish it, he needs to make sure he finishes it well else he needs to look up and see the wide open strikers.

Well, even if you're not a good finisher, you may be the only guy who can take that shot. Who knows? You might get lucky.

Plus having split second to make decisions...

That's the thing, in one of the cases, he wasn't the only one there. Larsson was by himself right beside him. He just didn't see him because he kept his head down .. but it's all good, I know he can do better and he knows it. He apologized to Larsson right after.

2-0 to the arsenal. Thank you very much.

Posted by Yohan on Mar-28-2006 20:37:

Going to be a very tough battle back in Turin for Juve. No viera, no Zebina, no Camoranesi. I missed most of first half, but Arse was playing their good fluid football and Juve looked very, very sluggish. Looked like they missed Nedved and Del Piero greatly.

If Arse get one in Turin, which most likely they will considering Juve's form at home in CL this year, well, it's over.

Man of the Match: Fabregas

Moretto saved the game for Benfica.
