this is why i kinda avoided the galaxy, also cause it looks like an old iphone

luckily as you said they actually are well made, my favourite non-smartphone was the Samsung D600... that phone was fucking Awesome.

Question about the Galaxy Vibrant...how do I add extra numbers to a single contact so that I can have work, home, cell, etc.? It doesn't appear as though I can do it? Or I can't figure out how. :/

edit: nevermind, I see that if I want to do that I have to save the contact to my phone instead of SIM card.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Sep-03-2010 16:46:

Uh, so for no apparent reason at all my phone is FUCKED. It keeps resetting and giving me application error messages and shit. This is fucking bullshit. Bell better fucking take this shit back and give me ANOTHER one.

Ouch that sucks balls.

Yeah pretty fucking unimpressed. Especially considering this is already an exchanged phone. Total bullshit.

Yeah that is the worst. I have never personally had a phone fail within the first 3 months. Always seems to be near the end of the first year if it has any real issues.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Sep-03-2010 17:20:

I've never ever had an issue with a phone until now. Honestly, if the next fucking one I get does the same kinda shit, I'll be done with the Galaxy S.

Understandable.

I had a D600...built like a brick. had it from 2005/6-2008 when i upgraded to iphone 2G.

Handed it down to my sister when her LG crapped out after she dropped it once. NOw my mum has it.

Was disappointed after upgrading to iphone and realizing it didn't have flash, descent camera, bluetooth, configurations, crappy speaker.

It could, but only if you hacked it.

Yeah, that is the problem. Lots of Motorolas have that same issue, but you can enable it if you do the right stuff.

If there's one thing that will prevent me from getting Android (apart from still inferior apps), it's the fact that they still haven't addressed the issue of not providing real-time low latency for mainly music programs.

Google needs to get off their ass so I can have a sweet app like this on an Android rather than an iPhone (which has brilliant 10ms latency compared to Androids 100ms):

EDIT - Apparently they are working on it in 2.2 but still not as well as they should be and the input/output targets are 50/45ms. Not bloody good enough

Music programs/synths on a phone. Let me just say that again: Music programs/synths on a PHONE.

And this is your reason for not getting an Android phone?

If people are writing music on their phones, then I'm sorry, that is not music I want to listen to

THIS.

I actually have an ipod touch cause i like the apps, and the music ones are fun, but i really cannot imagine any of them being capable of anything serious...

I could see the iPad being used a bit more serious because of the wifi-midi functionality with apps like TouchOSC which is sweet, but the app is still pretty much unusable on the tiny screen of the ipodtouch/phone...

I do actually agree fledz that it's the area of the app store where android sucks anus, but yeah, it's not that much of an issue that i would get myself stuck with a shit phone

I agree. The size of the screen alone, with the right app could make it an incredibly useful tool, especially in music production. Like the Jazzmutant Lemur.

But not a phone with a ~4 inch screen. Even the Streak I would consider to be rather useless in that department.

Size matters, baby.

It's not just music though, it's all audio. VOIP included, games, etc.

It's an area that they need to improve on.
Also, it's not just about making music on the run, it's about using your phone as an extra controller for your PC/MAC software, or live DJ gear.

And shit music? Did you not listen to the audio example?
Also, how much easier is it to jot down ideas like this than try and remember it in your head or write notes on a piece of paper?
Go back to your birds amatuer

FEVER RAMBLINGS I TELLS YA!!!

for music in general that's true, music playback even on the android isn't quite as nice as the itouch, but once again: Everything else is so much better it's a negligible difference imo... BUT, it would be nice to have that fixed: Android would be ultimate if it had top range music capabilities

that aside, jotting down notes is just as hard, most apps don't support export to midi, and the sequencer, midi programing apps i've seen are aweful, piece of paper would be better every time imo... I havn't tried the one you posted though, just checked and it's 20bucks, with no trial version, so doubt i will be trying it either

if you have an iphone, the best music app i've found is prochords, it's a music theory app which lets you figure out chord progressions (so if you start in Cmajor, it lists all the chords which fit well with the Cmajor)...
i think you can even email the midi to yourself

all the other apps i've found are really hard to use on the screen, all the drum-machines and sequencers etc

on a big screen they would be fun, but even then, as stu said, unless it's simply for midi triggering (it's made the lemur obsolete), you might as well just wait till you can get to a comp

At music production, I was never anything but an amateur

Ok, Android needs to improve on stuff. It's a newer platform that Apple's OS, give it some time.

I still snigger at the idea of using it as some kind of controller though, for production/DJ software. If you're serious about that shit, and need a controller, then you'll drop a few hundred bucks (cheaper than a smartphone!) on a proper midi controller, that will do a FAR better job.

I agree, though, that it would be handy to be able to jot down ideas on the run.

There is a trial for the PC and Mac. Download it off their website.

Only thing it lacks is obvious touch support since it's a computer but gives you a feel for what it's like.

but i have logic...

Dear lord...

/facepalm

It's a quick demo to see what it's like because you said there was no trial for the actual app on the phone, not there as a substitute for an actual sequencer.

Seriously, am I getting smarter or is the world around me just getting dumber?
