Um you are in California, minority is the majority now hispanics including mexicans, mexican-americans etc. You should know EDM is world wide, from South America to Middle-east. BTW Mexico City has a huge following for EDM, even when it died down here in the states it was and still is thriving. Ignorance reigns. See my hot ass wife in my sig, yeah she is Mexican.. era Mexican-America (full blood, born here). There I said it.

Mexicans love EDM and always had. Just ask some of the big DJ's what one of their favorite countries to spin at is and they will tell you Mexico. The vibe is way different.

You'll be surprised who some of the people behind the scene are. Ever heard of Global Trend? That's an LA company that does sound for a lot of big events & promoters including Insomniac and that big Armin party in Downtown LA. The owner is, yeap, you guessed it, Mexican!

Here in LA the scene has pretty much always been divided. I've been to a few mexican EDM parties here and I usually only see Insomniac promoting there. I never seen any other non mexican EDM promoters except HARD once.

David Guetta just played at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City this weekend. The stadium holds 135,000 people! I'm not sure he sold it out, but that's a HUGE fucken place. One of the biggest stadiums in the world!

I can go on forever but I wont.

Yeah, check this video out. This is from a Mexican EDM party at the Conga Room in LA. The DJ's are Sussie 4 from Mexico. I took this video last year on a fucken Wednesday!

I think Josh has had the best review so far

Overall, I had a good time. left around 11 to head back to LA and checked out The Belasco and then Avalon.

Fun night. A little tired today though. Medication time

Posted by DjWoody on Mar-20-2011 20:49:

Billy... How was the Belasco? Did it sell out?

Anyone catch Hawtin? I'm bummed out I missed him. He needs a proper Plastikman solo show here in LA! And no, Coachella doesn't count.

To me the experience was great overall. I like the waterbottle idea, saved me a lot of money. I was able to get around to all the stages that I wanted to without waiting in line. Andy Moor, Simon, Fresh, Netsky, CL, Cosmic Gate, Dirtyphonics, Noisia, and then Kaskade.

I'm really glad the entrance was very organized and not too much waiting in line. 15 min for me since I arrived around 5 ish. Sooo much better than that clusterfuck at TAO.

Posted by jonmitz on Mar-20-2011 22:02:

HOw was netsky? he was the only reason i would have went (If i lived in LA)

Posted by lucifer1126 on Mar-20-2011 22:09:

i wasn't able to get into him really after the hard hitting set of Simon Patterson...I stayed for Netsky's set like 20min tops and went back to CL. I guess I simply prefer Dirtyphonics style of dnb more..gotta be HEAVY

Where's the *LIKE* button?

Oh and not everyone that looks Mexican is Mexican.

Posted by Contrasts on Mar-20-2011 22:51:

I never questioned the scene in Mexico, I'm very aware of the fact that EDM is big in MEXICO. Hence all the different festivals and parties (especially Mexico city). I shouldn't of stated it as Mexicans, but more so essays and fake essays? And please don't run wild with me saying essays. If you have a better word for it then let me know But You know the ones I'm talking about, walking around with shirts on that say, "Looking to get into Ghetto girls" and things of that nature. Kind of just made me think and shake my head.

I was more referring to all the dirty club rats that come from these shitty fucking under 21 clubs like the ones in Pomona and the ones that are held at Gotham. Far from raciest just speaking the truth

System-7 as your wife.... I could say a funny line, but well that won't solve anything. Congratulations on the pick up though?

Posted by Quazar on Mar-20-2011 22:56:

It's one thing that surprised me when I first moved out here a year ago, but I'm used to it now: There are simply a lot of people of Mexican descent in LA. A lot of them are 2nd and 3rd generation because California's history has been closely tied with Mexico's for a long time.

So it's not that the Mexican-American kids all flock to EDM events when other people don't, it's just that most people in the LA area these days have some Mexican or Central American blood in them.

You can tell me in person, and you can catch me at Circus most times (Ill even buy you a drink). Check yourself before you wreck yourself with the derogatory comments. I respect all types of people, and I hold my reservations about the bad apples that each group has. I just don't go blasting away, cause well that won't solve anything.

I don't go to Circus or any clubs for that matter. That I went to Beyond is a miracle, but maybe I'll take you up on a drink. It's funny though because 2 of the guys that I went with are from Mexican Heritage (half and half) and said the same the exact same thing I did. So

And why did you bring up your wife's looks to begin with? Were you wanting me to say something? Kind of seemed..... welllll ummmmmm irrelevant?

Posted by costizzle on Mar-20-2011 23:56:

For the record I have been raving in LA for 5 years or so now and I even made the observation that there was a large amount of Mexican - Americans there. More so than I have ever seen. Probably 60-70%? NOT NECESSARILY A BAD THING. But I honestly felt really out of place.

BUT as for Richie Hawtin...he was the only reason I dropped the cash to go to Beyond. Man was it worth all 80 dollars. He made the event worth it itself. He banged it out with some of the darkest minimal I have ever heard. He played loud and heavy..probably a lot of unreleased tracks because I couldn't ID a damn thing. He really brought it and I was thoroughly impressed. He is the epitome of DJ perfection.

My brain. Richie's music. Epic.

Posted by system-7 on Mar-21-2011 00:06:

contrasts, drop it bro. I only brought that up to disprove your ignorant comment. Seems you may have a problem with diversity.

Why did you feel outta place?

Sounds like the Mexiguidos are taking over every where.

All the people noticing us "Mexicans" at raves and parties is similar to what has been happening in California politics the last few years, we are being noticed. We eventually will become the majority in CA, which I have mixed feelings on.

I'd have hi hopes for us if most of us progressed, but the reality is that we are not progressing as a whole. It makes me sick when I start to look into the statistics of our footprint in American education...

On to a Hawtin review!

Posted by Paul Anthony on Mar-21-2011 00:32:

enough with this lol can we get back to the beyond wonderland review. how was kaskade? we left during dirty south. the whole vip situation ruined our buzz

was at wonderland last night w/my girl and 3 buddies, we drove 12 hours friday night all the way from el paso, texas, and yes we are MEXICAN-AMERICANS. my girlfriend is actually mexican and lives in juarez, mexico. mexico has always had a great understanding and appreciation for dance music. some of the best parties i've ever been to have been across the border in j-town. nothing fancy, dirty underground clubs with some visual screens and lazers, people actually respect the music and the dj's and come to parties to DANCE. anyhow, about the actual party, everything was great for us, especially the trance stage early on (andy moor, patterson) and the techno stage was OWNED by marco corola! hawtin got down as well, but it sucked to see the stage half empty when he was throwing it down. didn't really dig loco dice, he was rather boring after corola. we went walking around then over to the VIP in the queens domain and was rather pissed to find out they were charging for drinks there! WTF insomniac? i mean isn't that the whole point of getting VIP? anyhow, overall had a really good time down there heard some good music and met some cool people! BTW does anyone know if sirius XM was broadcasting last night? or know if sets might be available in the near future? thanks hope everyone had a great time last night!

Damn. I made the mistake of going to the trance stage 15 minutes before CL came on. Those 15 minutes of listening to Judge Jules were excruciating! Even when CL was on, I couldn't enjoy it much b/c the bass was so loud and distorted. I left after 10 minutes of his set and just went to the house stage instead.

So Madhatters Castle was jammed packed when cosmic gate was on? I didn't think that room would fill up b/c it was only half full when CL started to spin.

Ithought Kaskade was surprisingly good. He actually threw down some heavy hitting tracks. Overall, it was a goood night.

Had the same problem with the sound in the trance area. it was just godawful.

It wasn't that way earlier in the day, though - Space Rockerz and Andy Moor sets that I caught were much clearer. Maybe they cranked it up as the night went on? Whatever happened it was so bad you couldn't even tell what track they were playing half the time. I had my earplugs in and everything.

House stage had distortion too, but it wasn't nearly as bad. we also spent the rest of the night there after Judge Jules.
