maybe they...

1. are getting old
2. had ONE good year in their careers a la carl pavano
3. just can't handle pitching in ny, a la weaver, vazquez, kenny rogers, jose contreras, etc

i think mel stottlemyre has earned his paycheck. see david wells, david cone, jimmy key, andy pettitte, roger clemens, orlando hernandez, etc.

my thoughts exactly

Mets starters are 6-2 with a 1.88 ERA in the last nine games.

Awesome.

he obviuosly earned through the glory years pre 2000. clemens was a hall of famer when he got here, orlando was a national star upon arriving and now hes 6-2, cone won 20 games with mets was a star with jays too, key was a very good pitcher throughout his career, Petite I agree! Johnson what happen to him? Mazzone did just fine with wright last year now he has a 10.00 era. Pavanno won 18 last year this year hell be lucky to win 15 with a better offense. I just think his foot always half way out the door, deciding evry year right before spring traing if hes going to come back. I think at this point hes just not getting through to the players anymore.

Dont get me wrong 4 world series he has earned his keep. I just think they should have quitly let him retire before the season, without really trying to persuade him to come back.

You have two chances then for that sneaky since it's a double header....

Plus Ishii is pitching.

My first Mets games today. But as mentioned before, the Giants are my fav national league team. But I might keep it secret, I don't need any A Hole chants.

It's possible. I think we'll take 1 of these games. It's so hard to win both of a double header. Most likely we'll lose the Ishii game.

Posted by Shamez214 on Jun-05-2005 17:37:

The two East divisions and the NL West (barely) are the only divisions to have more than 2 teams above .500. The West has 3 teams (though the Dodgers are only 1 game above). The AL East has 4 teams above .500 and in the NL East, all 5 teams are.

We're due for a hot and heavy race in New York boys, whichever team you're a fan of. The fifth place Phillies are 1.5 games out of first. !!!

Giants scored just 1 run in 5 innings vs. Ishii

Posted by partyhopper on Jun-05-2005 21:36:

Yanks snapped their losing streak with last night's 4-3 win against Twins, but returned to their losing ways again, with a 9-3 loss today. Brown was doing well, but then hit two batters in the 6th inning, which led to the Twins scoring 5 runs and taking the lead.

For Tuesday's Mets vs Astros opener, it's too bad we'll miss a Clemens vs. Martinez matchup by a game. It will instead be Pedro vs. Roy Oswalt, which might still be a good pitcher's duel.

Well... he said that because he figures he has 2 shots to get it right. We'll see how Benson fares in the second game.

World Series rematch starts tomorrow - Red Sox vs Cardinals

Well, maybe not quite the same, with Sox not having Schilling, Martinez, or Lowe, among many others

I hate to be "that guy," but does anyone else think Schmidty may be a victim of the banning of performance enhacning drugs? He stinks... goes to the Bonds World of San Fran and becomes one of the top 5 NL pitchers year in, year out. Now... steroids are banned and Schmidt stinks again and his velocity is down 4-5 MPH.

Of course, this is all speculation on my part... just wondering what everyone else thinks.

I can see that it wouldnt suprise me , especially considering his proximity to the Balco labs

pure coincidence...what benefit do pitchers have for using steroids?? they get too bulky and they lose their fluidity in motion...to even consider that theory viable, i have to see before and after shots of his legs...

Dude... not all steroids make you big and muscular. He could've been using to give him more stamina. And now that he's not able to use anmore, it could've effected everything else.

Again, purely speculation on my part.

Pitchers usually take juice purely for recovery, not to bulk up.

Unbelievable. Randy Johnson at it again. After his last start he said (paraphrased), "Well, I'm switching leagues again, so I have to get used to the AL game and pace." He's facing the Brewers in an NL park... he needed a two hit shut out or something. Already given up 2 runs in the first. He better shut them down from here on out.
