I don't think I can do that. Why don't you mix again?

Posted by DJ_Audun on Oct-11-2004 09:25:

Yeah lol....
The point is that I got a new computer just some days after I made the mix. We threw the old one and I didnt make a backup of the mix.

I can host the 3 best mixes (DJ Audun, Marius Linauskas, Rockabye). I'll have to upload them first and then I'll post links here.

Just don't mix it over, haha would be waste of time
But, why would you not make backups of your stuff like this great mix

Posted by Rockabye on Oct-11-2004 10:15:

Thank u, that would be awesome! I usually keep my mixes on my computer or burn them to cd, but I forgot to do it this time. I kinda want to listen to it myself, haven't done so after I made it.

i've come in last LOL.
i've had one bad comment, and one not so bad, waiting for DJ.MD'S comments.
mr2gti i would agree totally with your comments, my mix was like a ralph fridge greatest hits mix, but not too scathing. jay M i'm not even going to comment on your comments.
well i've d/loaded the top three mixes, and my friends and i think they are just ordinary, conventional dj mixes, done in the conventional dj style of mixing.
maybe that is where i went wrong, i tried to show what traktor dj studio 2.5.3 was capable of.
i put a lot of vocal loops and stuff in my mix, but it seems that was my downfall.
i'm not saying my mix was perfect, far from it.
but i'm not going to spend 120 on dj software and only use it to do conventional mixing with it, no i want to take full advantage of this softwares features to the full.
sorry if i offend anyone with these comments, just my opinion.

anyway i look forward to competing in the next compo. only i WILL use the conventional style of dj'ing, and i will use less loops,
just in case there are any ANTI-LOOP judges.
chow for now and you lot take care.

Paul

i am happy with my result since i use final scratch and and not traktor dj studio like everyone else =), i think traktor is just way to easy and well i love the vinyl beatmatching feeling plus i didnt had time to make a new set, i made that mix back in july i remember, so tracks are not new now beside i love playing upcoming producers tracks they are the future on edm, thanks everyone for listening i am more then happy with the result =)

I also used FS. I am a little bummed with the results mostly because my only comments (so far) seem to be about the beatmatching on a couple mixes. I noticed this problem when I made it but didn't have time to go through it again. Anyway, I think I did decent I just wish I had made a better mix for this comp but don't we all...

Actually, I think the thing that got me more than anything was that I have really been mostly doing prog the last few months. I know I could've done a prog mix but I figured straight trance might go over better

Me - yours

Posted by djkoolaide on Oct-12-2004 11:50:

I thought it was decided that FS wasn't going to be allowed?

Anyway yeah I know what you mean... I can't stand using Traktor, it's way too easy Auto sync and everything. I used PCDJ Red, IMO way better because you have so much more control.

Posted by mr2gti on Oct-12-2004 18:30:

Good to see the results, It's good to see a good gaggle of mixes that did so well.

None were bad, let me just clear that up, no one here will or should actually say that any mix was bad. They all did very well for there individual experience.

I guess you folks would like some feedback from me...

1. Dj PEZ.
A very competant and good sounding mix from the off. Peoples idea's of how a mix should start are very different to each others, and this route taken was my style of opener. Very good mixing in my ears, some slight errors and a cocky track 6 to 7 was a little stumbling block. Melodie matching did well too. good scorer.

2. Dj Physchotrance.
As you said in a previous thread reply, it sounded like a Ralph Fridge greastest hits mix lol. Now, there is sweet sod all wrong with that, and therefore, to some, it would be a perfect mix and composition. Other, as it seems may not think so, but thats the beauty of judges, you get what you get. Beat matching got better, and with practice, it will come together nicely over time. It's all about getting used to what you play and mix. Brave and commendable effort.

3. Dj Baluija.
Superb opener, deep and moody. Certainly a mix for the after club drive home on your favourite B or A road. Beat mixing wasn't the best here, but lets face it, it's part of perfecting the art. More attention to beat mixing and certainly melodics will help the feel grow and the overall quality build. Good attempt.

4. Commisad
This opener, was without doubt, for me, the best here. It built a dark, deep airy atmosphere around the start that really got you stirring for a blinder, but, as you know, it all went Pete Tong in the wrong way. As soon as 3:25 comes in it gets fouled by track 2. I'm sure as soon as you heard it you knew what had happened, and I find it good you stuck with it, as that proves you were in the zone and up for it, i.e making a full on effort. Beat mixing was fine for most of the mix and the Melodics help return to a good feel.

5. Dj Kooliade.
Anyone else here 15? 15 and on a mission? No? Well, this guy is. I thought the mix was fan-bleeding-tastic. It was my type of music and material. It did indeed begin quicker than it ended, which for some, may be backwards. But, as entrants were limited to 80mins it was still a great set up. Beat mixing was extremely good, a few errors but none that made me sit up and notice. He is 15. The melodics were good for the majority, some odd misgivings, and he is 15. I keep banging on about this 15 thing because, I only wished at 15 I had this talent, now 28, i'm catching up. First mix to make it into the car.

6. Kyo
Very good beat mixing here, Not at all off the pace with the other top 3 finishers. Good overall selection too. Track feel and mix progression felt nice, a little "same" at times but nothing to make you wanna pop another mix on. Melodics were it's downfall at times, we all know melodics can be a pain, but its part of mixing. Wait for a bareshell drumbeat at the end of a track to start before the new track melodics come in, then there is no synth clash. A very good and well liked effort, also in the car.

7. Nfinity
Levels, and both other judges will see this too, some tracks were louder than others. Good plan beforehand is to NORMALISE all track to a preset db range. Beat mixing was good, some not so like near the end. Mixing times were too long at times, not by alot, but they did at times drag the feel down. Melodics were ok. It was an average mix with an average feel and flow. It never really went for it, but it has potential. Good effort.

8. Ordep
This mix reminded me of another DJ I like to listen to. Ben Sims. Not completely the same, but the flow of it went Bens way. Gorgeous Retro feel opener, superb selection, good melodics and very hard to fault. A certainly entertaining mix with great feel and dynamics. A professional feel at times too. Tune types won't be to all's taste, and that will drag down scores.

9. Mycron (Ilovetrance18)
Melodics are a concern at times, but nothing practice won't iron out. The beat mixing was on the whole good, the odd blip was soon sorted. Flows very well in my book and was well engineered. You feel that the Dj was trying hard to enjoy it as he made it, it shows. Good effort.

10. Inpieces (Inpy)
My speakers nearly are thanks to this. An absolute thumper of a mix. Beat mixing was ok for the major part of it, as were the melodics. Another few hours sussing out levels and melodics will have this down to the ground. Great feel and it flowed really well all the way. Good speed too. In the car.

11. Major Johnson
Selection was superb, the tracks used really carried the mix along nicely. It's good to be able to hear a mix that seems to alter so much within a set genre, this did. Beat mixing though wasn't as good as some throughout, yet it was far for bad in any way. Melodics were ok for some parts, others it held up the flow. Overall a nice attempt.
Hope to see this entrant in another mix comp very soon.

12. Marius Linaukas
Hmmmmmmm, I liked this mix, but not as much as the final standings show. It flowed very well, with beat mixing being of high standard. Levels were maintained in mix to a good degree mostly, cannot say that the headphone problem you reported really made a difference to anything lol. Melodics were good too, some superb, but for me the whole mix lacked something, don't ask what because I cannot say. Some emotion was lacking somewhere maybe. Bloody good effort though.

13. Rockabye
A real dark horse this. Pace just increased and increased. It became a frenzy 2/3 of the way through which lit up my Winamp bars. It felt very well made, beat mixing was great too, melodics were very nice mainly, crisp mix. One for the next car CD mp3

14. Sonorescent
Hmmmm, I hate using the word Average as it can sometimes be taken wrongly. Let me put this mix into context... If you go to an outdoor "rave" and buy a recording of it afterwards, you bought it because it was spot on on the day, and is on that tape. Then you get a copy of a copy of a copy from a mate who knows of a good set from someone you like, thats the lower end. This mix, is like going into a shop and buying the original mix from a shelf before anyone else hears it. You listen to it a few times and then file it. Or lend it out never to be seen again. everything in this mix was just on average and I liked it More from you I hope!!!!!!

15. Sphere
Naff, crap, plop, pointless, flat, offbeat, awful, hardcore, toss, poo. None of these words could be used to describe this mix. It was well made, with the selection being good, melodics were ok. Beat mixing though was superb in my eyes. Above average, In the car!!!!!

16. Nirom
Very cool mix. Mellow feel was never going to happen with this start lol. Loved the first track. Beat mixing was very good, beat timing wasn't always at best, 32/64 counts are a pain of mixing, but - it happens lol. very good pick of tracks and a superb feel. In the car on next CD.

17. The Mighty Cad.
Good grief, Freedy Mercury ripoff track in there!!! what was you thinking you mad mad person lol. A few mistakes that need ironing out, mainly selection I feel. A very random clutch of the MP3 folder was evident. Needs work, how about re-foldering your tracks into genre's, then running a mix from that. Good effort though and the beat mixing was v-good in parts.

18. Audun
Blimey. Fecking hell!!!! WOW! This had that pro feel many of use would kill to be able to achieve. The opener was outstanding also, like many others. Beat mixing was, epic. Precise and well planned. Melodics were at times noticable, but nothing to prick your ears at. Selection was very good too. The practice over the time youv'e had has really helped. A worthy top 3'er.

Best Opener... Commisad. Blisteringly good opener.
Best ending... DJ Kooliaide. Yummy finish.
Best transition... Dj Kooliaide. Andain into Brian Eno. Class.
Biggest eye opener... 18 Contestants!
Biggest gain... A CD full of MP3 mixes!
My mix of the event overall... Audun deserves the 1st place but Dj Kooliaide mix is a bloody stormer and is 100% my cuppa tea!

Top attempt from every1 though, at least you entered and submitted!!!

Rick.
