I've though about getting something with a big screen, like the Moto Q or Nokia E61, but they're just too big for me for day-to-day use. I'm not planning on using the browser a lot - just when I need to quickly access the net for something, and I don't want to pay for Rogers' data fees.

It was a toss-up between the E65 and D900, but in the end, Nokia's better connectability won over. If the Jap market is any indication, WiFi is the future.

Is there a charge for Wireless Number Portability
i.e going From Telus to Rogers?
I heard there might be a charge, does anyone know?

Telus is pissing me off, 7 more months on my contract, problems with phone right after warranty expired(go figure)...

No charges for the port.

The only charge then is the possible penalty for breaking your contract with Telus...

I have no idea how much it is.

I've heard for Bell the maximum is $200...which is probably what i am going to have to pay...

Posted by BANDIT on Mar-14-2007 22:18:

yeah just talked to rogers and they told me there is no charge for switching

about the contract with telus its either $20/month or $200 total which every is cheaper...

I am missing/not getting (some)calls delieverd to me I am missing clients calling, time to change...And I know other Telus people that don't get their incoming call(just like me)

Getting a new personal cell phone and can't decide between the Pearl, K1 KRZR, and SE K790.

I just want to be able to listen to music (actually, not really because I'm about to get an Ipod), take pictures, have Bluetooth, and write text messages with ease. For the writing part alone, I think the Pearl is my best choice, as I don't want anything too chunky.

I guess I made up my mind. Pearl it is. Thank you, wireless thread!

Posted by Cosmic Fur on Mar-19-2007 19:00:

K790 will absolutely rape the Pearl in terms of picture-taking capabilities. It's like night and day. People say SureType is better than T9, but I dislike both equally.

Text messaging triples in Canada

Mobile phone customers in Canada sent more than 4.3 billion text messages in 2006, almost triple the 1.5 billion sent in 2005, according to a report released last week by the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association. Volumes peaked in December 2006 at more than 560 million in that month alone, which represents more than 18 million per day.

Roughly 18.5 million Canadians subscribed to wireless phone service by the end of 2006, which translates to a national wireless penetration rate of approximately 58%. And recent CWTA research estimates wireless penetration in major urban centres now exceeds 70%, with some large metropolitan areas approaching the 80% mark.

What do you guys think of the

Moto RIZR Z3?

Someone I know is selling a brand new one...

Posted by Jer on Mar-22-2007 05:13:

After six months with the BlackBerry 8100, I'm extremely impressed. Now that there's some themes floating around, it's even better!

Anyone?

Posted by Cosmic Fur on Mar-22-2007 14:23:

I refrained from saying anything before, but I'd stay away from Moto. Maybe it's a personal agenda, but I REALLY don't like Motorola. Everything they make seems to be inferior to their competitors. Now Samsung, Nokia, or SE is a totally different story.

Can you recommend any good Slider phones?

I'm not a fan of flip phones at all...

Posted by Cosmic Fur on Mar-22-2007 14:42:

Possibly.. what's your budget?

It depends on my work situation (ie. If I have job this summer).

But I'm willing to spend upto $300. Don't want to have to spend more than that cause I will have to pay a penalty for cancelling my contract w/ Bell.

I don't need a phone with all the bells and whistles..I got iPod/DC for all that stuff.

I just want a sexy looking phone that has great reception lol. Is that to hard to ask?

Posted by Cosmic Fur on Mar-22-2007 15:01:

Hm.. if it's $300 for phone only your choices are quite limited, as sliders tend to be pricey. Phone with plan will be subsidized, so that may help out. what provider are you looking at?

Posted by exstasie on Mar-22-2007 15:11:

Definitely Rogers...

IT doesn't have to be a slider I guess. Just not a flip.

I can suggest:

I'm grabbing a Blackberry 8800 once Rogers gets around to stocking the stores.

Posted by Cosmic Fur on Mar-22-2007 16:28:

^ They are sweet sweet things man, congrats. People love the Pearl, and imo the 8800 is miles ahead of the Pearl.

Agreed! 8800 is a swanky piece of gear. Rogers announced it being released 2 weeks ago but hasn't been able to stock stores yet (odd...).

I entirely expect Rogers to release an 8800 series with WiFi and Camera 2 weeks after I get my 8800 (lol).
