fark oath Philby!

Lucky for me i start uni at 3 tomorrow

Posted by Trance Nutter on Sep-12-2005 11:52:

I've got a few very important things I really need to get done early tomorrow, but fuck it I'm about to find out if I really CAN do them in my sleep.

Posted by DJ_Ballistic on Sep-12-2005 11:56:

pffffffffft wtf makes u ppl think u need to sleep???

cocaine's a hell of a drug

Posted by Trance Nutter on Sep-12-2005 12:35:

What the hell is Lee doing. He;s bowling it saying "hit it, c'mon, hit it, please, no I really want to be tonked. I'm shit, hit me you fool", and Peterson is obliging. That is not a zone to target if you want wickets. The odd ball yes to make them mishit it, but not 4 balls in a row.

Time for Tait. Important game or not, 2nd gamer or not, he's a strike bowler and its time for him to bowl.

^^ damn straight. 6,6,4,4, the Ashes are slipping away.

Flintoff's 'roids.

Posted by Ghostface on Sep-12-2005 13:43:

Tait goes for two 4s then sends the stumps flying. We're still in it just.

Jesus christ this is going down to the wire

I'll agree if we get these three before tea

Posted by THE_Chris on Sep-12-2005 13:58:

~50 overs left. Aussies need 4 runs per over to get it.

If England can stay in for another 10 overs, it'll be much harder for the Aussies.

Posted by Philby on Sep-12-2005 14:17:

damn you pieterson!! its looking a bit grim now...

Posted by THE_Chris on Sep-12-2005 14:20:

I dunno, its looking pretty alright to me

Posted by Renegade on Sep-12-2005 14:20:

Jesus Christ, what a game. You'd think that Australia would need to clean up these wickets within about 5 or 6 overs to keep the run-rate around 6 an over for the chase. Still, it's probably balanced in England's favour so long as Pietersen is out there...

Posted by A.J. on Sep-12-2005 15:22:

We pretty much have no chance anymore....

England have now OFFICIALLY won the ashes.

This means -

Australia have been OFFICIALLY owned. You dont need me to tell you that anymore.

Realitys a bitch, huh.

as if they've been owned. it takes 2 great teams to put on a series like this, and it's been great. I am so pleased to have won it, but we've not owned them in any way, and to do so does their players who've worked their asses off an Injustice. For now we're closer to them than we've been in the rankings for years, and that's what matters.

Ratings

Langer - 8
Did his bit when he had to, one of the more consistent aussie players.

Hayden - 4
Very poor at times, good in this match, but over the series not so, not the man who I last saw, maybe time to retire & write another cookbook

Ponting - 5
One good knock, and another start after, but was done too much for a player of his quality by swing bowling.

Clarke - 7
Guys like "pup" are your future, and he's done himself no harm here, a learning curve as it is for Bell of england, some good knocks, some not so, should be retained imo

Martyn - 3
Where has he gone to ? He looked really poor and I dunno what else to say, not the classy batsman who's caused us so much trouble before

Gilchrist - 5
Bad batting, average at times keeping, another who's disappointed

Katich - 5
Decent player, but is he good enough for the tests ? seems not imo on this showing

Warne - 10
What more can this guy do, he's a magician with the ball & put up runs that without, the side would have been in real trouble. As much teasing as he gets, we all respect what he's done, and he'll be missed as a character next time round.

Lee - 9
if this was rated on effort & heart he'd win the man of the series, showed grit, determination, and a nice guy all round.

McGrath - 7
Was good to begin with, injury ruined the series for him, and maybe cost you the urn, came back too soon imo at Manchester and paid the price.

Gillespie - 2
This guy used to terrorise us, but has lost the yard of pace (like darren gough for us) and looked out of his depth. Maybe needs the old streamlined haircut back

MacGill - 8
Great work at bringing on those drinks, didn't spill a drop. Plays well in county game here and im surprised he didn't get a chance.

Tait - 7
Potential to be great, time will tell

England

Strauss - 7
Played well except at times vs Warne. Grew as the series did and played well

Trescothick - 7
Found wanting in the past for lack of foot movement. Still has annoying habit of finding it easy & giving wicket away.

Vaughan - 7
Played ok at times, poor at others, tendancy to throw wicket away again, but captained well with field placements & changes i'd never seen. Outthought ponting a lot.

Bell - 5
This lad has talent, I know it, and a lot of england does, needs to take lessons from this into later career and learn from it

Pietersen - 8
Magic at times, butterfingers at others, the fact is like warne, he lives for the biggest moments, and today was one.

Flintoff - 10 (man of the series)
What can I say about the big man that isn't a superlative ? signifies the new breed of english cricket, and loved by all, seemed to make good friendship with Lee too which is good to see on the sporting side.

Jones - 4
Just not good enough, could have lost the ashes in the drops & put downs, and his batting doesn't live upto what we were led to believe it would when he first got picked

Simon Jones - 9
Played really well, grew in stature, and showed how much we missed him when he did his knee at Brissy last tour

Giles - 7
held his own

Hoggard - 7
Some good times, some bad, generally did his usual backup job that he's so good at

Harmison - 6
showed glimpses but didn't seem to have full rhythm in his bowling

Collingwood - 6
did what was asked of him

Well it was a pretty amazing series. I have split loyalties here so I wasn't really going to lose too much sleep regardless of the way the result went, but for the first time in years I've actually been able to sit down and enjoy watching test cricket for hours on end, which really is saying something. England have done incredibly well to come back from the rabble they were only a few years ago and Australia did well to keep it interesting for so long considering a number of their players weren't really at the top of their game. Has there been a better test series in living memory? Not that I can think of...
