wtf...now they are looking at David Lee? obviously a great player, but it would prob entail a sign and trade or ditching others since the Raps won't have the cash to sign him and it creates a bit of a logjam up front if they're keeping Bosh, Bargnani and Evans.

sure is an intersting off-season...and yes, Delfino and a 19 yr old would certainly be the weak link.

haha, see this is the next evolution of the theory "draft the best player available". Taking it to the next logical level, BC is trying to 'sign' the best possible player for the best possible trade bait.

I'd love to have David Lee. One of those blue collar workhorse players that I think every team needs.

I actually like this trade...Kapono didn't really pan out that well and I bet they bring in another guy that can shoot anyways. This also saves them a few million $'s.

LOL YES!! Can't believe I missed this thread but yea, I'm happy about the trade. Knowing life though, Kapono will start nailing clutch 3's now that he's out of Toronto. Hopefully Reggie Evans gives us that mental toughness we so desperately need, but I'm of the belief that mental toughness starts with the team captain first and foremost. And Bosh lacks it.

On DeRozen: I like the pick up since that's exactly what we needed, but the kid has a long way to go before he can have an impact on games. He's atrocious from 3, and his jumper isn't too hot either. Like the athleticism though, and hopefully with the right work ethic he develops a solid game for himself.

On Free Agency: Trevor Ariza would be perfect for us imo. Exactly the type of player we need. I'd also love to see Artest here but he's too much of a volume shooter and ball hog. He does make up for it on defense. David Lee would be a pointless signing.

Ariza -> Houston
Artest -> Lakers

I guess Marion is the only realistic option left for us.

talk about a monster FA pickup

no matter what athletes, there are only a few that really do care about winning, and artest is one of those. he could have easily signed somewhere else for 4-5 years at $10million/yr

Lakers are going to dominate with artest next year

Posted by infinity HiGH on Jul-03-2009 05:34:

Lakers will be a monster team next year as long as Odom stays. 2 vicious defenders on the perimeter in Bryant + Artest. That's like Jordon + Pippen v2.0.

Apparently the Celts are courting Sheed for a 2 year. It's almost as if every team not named the Lakers, Cavs, Magic or Celtics are even bothering with winning next year.

you have to include the spurs too with the pickup of RJ, they can be dangerous with a healthy manu

Posted by MarkT on Jul-03-2009 18:56:

^^^ absolutely! Jefferson was a brilliant move for them...clearly the piece they were missing and a massive upgrade at SF.

I know he's lost a step, but Rasheed is still a monster when he's motivated and if the Spurs somehow snag him (despite Boston pursuing him hard), I say crown them now assuming they can stay healthy. That team would be damn near impossible to defend and good luck trying to post up against that frontcourt, lol!

Parker, Manu, Jefferson, Duncan and Rasheed > all (including the new look Lakers)

I'm not sold on Artest going to the Lakers, though he's clearly an upgrade over Ariza. As some are pointing out, Artest likes the ball and Kobe likes the ball. Odom and Artest also will have to accept reduced rolls. on paper, it's great, but in reality? we'll see...

come on Raps...make something happen!!!

I disagree, but my God that series would redefine the word epic

Turkoglu to the Raptors

http://www.tsn.ca/nba/story/?id=283674

Posted by MarkT on Jul-04-2009 05:06:

yeah, Yahoo Sports is reporting it too and saying 5 years, 56 mil.

so no Marion, Delfino or Parker, as a result. I wonder if BC got the feeling Marion would not resign, as Delfino was reportedly close and they're certainly not saving money with this contract.

now does this mean that Raps still have the mid-level exception, so they could still sign Kleiza to back him up, for example? does it mean they can use it on Delfino as an unrestricted free agent?

Bargnani, Bosh, Turkoglu, DeRozan and Calderon

can't call that an upgrade over the starting lineup last year (when everyone was healthy)

there is still a gaping hole at SG, so you have to think that BC is not done!

(not sure what this is about, but from nba.com: "Delfino had to go, too, though a source indicated late Friday that the Raptors may explore a sign-and-trade deal with Orlando that would send Delfino to the Magic.")

LOL What did you expect? It's the Raptors. I hope Bargnani develops a post game because I'm gonna get sick of watching this team jack up shots for 82 games.

+ 1

something tells me that's not going to happen unless Bargnani packs on some muscle in the offseason.

fuck, he's Italian. isn't someone feeding this kid?

Posted by slingshot on Jul-05-2009 01:25:

I'm not too sure how much I like the signing, but Hedo is definately the type of player that can create his own shot...definately someone who will be able to get them buckets when everyone else has gone cold.

Posted by Yohan on Jul-05-2009 01:43:

so, the Raps can't still rebound, or defend perimeter

but at least we can shoot jumpers!

the raps haven't been able to rebound for 6-7 years

lol seriously. Blows my mind how Colangelo was ever selected as GM of the Year.

correct me if i'm mistaken, but didn't he help draft Marion, Amare and Nash while in phoenix? that's an eye for talent, which you can't give alot of GMs credit for

Posted by MarkT on Jul-06-2009 05:01:

lol @ the pasta commercial. I was waiting for that remark

http://www.nba.com/suns/history/draft_history.html#2006

Nate Robinson, Stephen Jackson, Deng and Rondo too? Plus you have to look at where they scored these guys. Marion and Amare were 9th and Nash was 15th. Jackson was a 2nd rounder and Rudy Fernandez at 24 was a decent one too. pretty damn good.

trade history is another issue though, as a fair bit of drafted talent was lost in sketch moves...and BC has never won a title, has he?

as of right now the Raps have less depth, less financial flexibility, and a 19 yr old rookie as their starting SG.

I'm trying to have faith though. eagerly awaiting more from BC.

Posted by Sly_Guy on Jul-06-2009 15:48:

I like big turk.

He's long and mobile, and although he may not be the defender/rebounder that marion is, he'll do his part. Besides, we want a team that attacks the rim, and Hedu can do that, with a half decent back to the basket game and a reliable [if not streaky] jump shot.

But I don't think the moves for this team are done yet, there's no way you'd leave a bench this thin going into a season, and there are ideas floating around about sign and trades involving marion [don't know how sign and trades work with the salary cap but if it's possible, it's like adding more trading pieces for free]

Posted by MarkT on Jul-07-2009 03:48:

definitely not hating on him...just not seeing him as an upgrade. at least it's someone who is good with the ball and happy to take a clutch shot.

hmmmm...interesting:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4310011

Stackhouse isn't exactly the slashing scorer he once was (understatement of the year), but would be a cheap solution and maybe a positive influence on DeRozan's development?

*shrugs*

Raps don't seem to have tons of options at the moment. If they pull that sign-and-trade for him and can use the mid-level on Kleiza, it's not an awful lineup.

how about Rasheed going to Boston???

yea, I just read that as well....stack could definately provide some good veteran leadership for sure....I like the possibility....if they can grab klieza with the mid-level....I'd be pretty pumped going into this season....he would be solid coming off the bench for them.

still the issue of a back-up pg remains though. we need someone who isn't going to lose us games.

[edit]: and on the flip side of this potential sign-and-trade...I actually think marion going to the mavs would be pretty good too....I think he'd fit in quite nice in that system playing j-kidd, howard, and dirk.
