The reason it appears that there is not as much planning as WMC threads is that primarily most of this thread are Toronto people, Southern Ontario people, Windsor people and some Detroit peeps.

It's close, (right across the river, 15mins for me), 4 hour drive from Toronto... so transportation is not a huge deal.

So besides making sure you got a ticket, the days booked off work, some spending money put aside and a general idea of what kind of fun or who you want to see while you're there... you're done planning.

If you're planning on staying, grab a hotel...

Like other people have said, it's all in one are, the afterparties are flyered and announced there too.. and we post speculations, rumours, confirmations, etc. of the after parties.

Not to mention, most here are DEMF vetrans and it's been done so many times, DEMF just happens... don't know how to explain it.

But if it's your first time... enjoy! It's a helluva experience.

And if something is not posted or help you were looking for, i'm sure you're mature and adult enough to simply ask for whatever informtion/details you need.

just didn't know if i was missing something b/c it seemed almost too easy...sometimes lack of planning makes me nervous, but since thats the general rule in DEMF,

Believe me, lack of planning ALWAYS makes me nervous. I'm already planning what I'm doing during the week (not even the weekend) on random days in May. And packing clothes for it nonetheless - In fact, when I pack, I write down what I'm going to wear/need each day and alternates lol. Ask any of my friends, I'm crazy OCD when it comes to planning what I'm doing. So when I say that all you gotta do is book a hotel, figure out your travel plans and buy your weekend pass there can't be much more planning then that.

Ohhh there will be dirty good fun, good people and GREAT music...

Just hope you're not to fond of sleep

As I said before, most planning is:
1) Have tickets/pass
2) Days off work/school
3) Spending money
4) A place to sleep (passout)

Other than that, DEMF is DEMF.

Other tips for anyone I may recomend, is get a bag!!! Was awesome last year, people called it my "Ravepurse" , but who was laughing when they kept asking me to hold shit for them lol, and when I had tylenol, chaptstick, flyers, festival guide, pen, etc...

Much easier than loaded up pockets... ur a chick, so you'll probably already have a purse of some sorts...

But I do recomend to anyone else, get bag, holds the camera, phone, bottle of water, extra t-shirt, napkins etc... was great!

I got this one...

Works awesome!

I have a question for you DEMF veterans. Need a little advice as it's my first time going to Detroit.

I found a place I'm getting a really good deal on that is a couple of blocks away from Comerica Park. Is that absolutely too ridiculously far from everything? Are cabs really expensive/hard to get/not worth the trouble?

Definitely not walking distance. Well it is, but it's like a 25 minute walk and you wouldn't want to be doing that at night. Cabs aren't hard to get at all, so that wouldn't be a problem. But do you really want to go through all that hassle? It'd be a pain in the butt too if you want to leave the festival for a bit and come back.

IMO you're better off finding something closer.

Well, it is only a 3 or 4 minute cab ride according to google maps It's a little bit of a nightmare to find a place now, and I def do not intend to pay $150/night for a room. The place I'm looking at is an apt that accomodates 6 and the price per night is under $100. Is the distance still a deal breaker?

It's really your personal preference. If you're fine with taking a $10 cab all the time, then go for it. The price sure sounds goods, and the fact that it's apartment style is nice too. My recommendation would just be to take cabs, don't walk. At least at night. During the day you may be okay...just got to feel it out when you get there (even ask at the front desk).

I'd say to see if you can find some reviews on the hotel as well (especially if it's not a household name chain).

Are you talking $100 per person or for all six people? If it's the former, then ummm...if (I'm guessing) the latter, you should have more than enough scratch left for cabs when you need them.

Those still looking for decent digs can check with the Inn on Ferry Street, where we booked in - do it through hotels.ca, pay with Visa and use the promotional code visaca33 when filling out your details. They have kickass looking rooms, are really well reviewed, and offer a free shuttle to anywhere within a 5 mi. radius (which includes Hart Plaza). It's midtown, not downtown, but at this point in the game...

We got our room for $110/night, taxes in - includes parking and brekkie. Pretty sweet deal.

I'm ok with the cabs, I live in Manhattan, hehe. It's not a hotel either, it's a loft in an apt building that a friend that lives in Grand Rapids occasionally stays at. I like the fact that I could cook for myself (and whoever wants to stay with us) and don't have to search for food (there is a grocery store 2 blocks away).

Thx Lisa I think I might go ahead and book it.

edit: the price per night is for the apt, not per person. That's why I'm not worried about the cab fares. It's actually very close to the Majestic.

I would definitely say go for it then. You sound quite happy with it, and the distance is definitely not that big of a deal. And in return for my advice, you can let me sleep on your couch the next time I go to NYC. lol j/k

I'm not gonna do old miami this year; I'm sure it's a total blast but it's been losing its "magic" the past 2 years from what I've heard. Hotel afterparties FTW!

Exactly 50 days left

I kinda needed the reassurance, one of the people I was going to stay in Detroit with gave me a hard time about it being far and not right downtown (this person wanted to be able to just cross the border walking). We had a reservation @ the Atheneum, but the person who booked it on his card decided to cancel the res and bail on us. Oh well. If anyone needs a place to crash in Detroit last minute, let me know

And you're definitely welcome to crash on my couch when I get an apt Kinda tough having ppl over now that I'm living with my in-laws.
