It will still work. CDMA isn't going away for good for about 10 years. Verizon had their AMPS (analogue) stuff on till like 2003 I think.

What network did Startacs use?

The original ones used AMPS.

Well, it looks like I was REALLY close in approximate dates.

quote:
eWeek is reporting that Verizon Wireless told executive IT managers that they plan to launch LTE in 30 NFL cities by the end of 2010. The quote came from Verizon senior federal sales executive Bernie McMonagle. The executive did not detail which specific cities would be getting Verizons 4G service, but he did reiterate that they would be major metropolitan areas and that his company would have the entire country covered in LTE by 2013. Unfortunately, McMonagle also said that LTE smartphones, due to there scarcity, would not be launched in conjunction with the thirty city rollout.

Actually it was 2008.

Damn I thought it was earlier. hah oh well. Goes to show that the CDMA network will probably be on for a similar time past when it is profitable to keep running.

I've left mine alone and don't regret it. It's already fast, tethering is now enabled (post-Froyo), multi-touch is enabled, and I like the stock OS. I had cracked my old Touch Pro for performance and because WinMo sucked, but I really don't see the same attractiveness on this thing, especially given the hassle.

no d-pad and no native .avi support drives me nuts though.

I'm nearing time for an upgrade. I'm still sitting on the Moto Droid 1 running an old 2.1 user mod, so no flash, etc. Once I'm not lazy I'll flash to factory to get froyo.

But all that nonsense aside, what's the new hip phone all the kids are waiting on being released these days? I want something fap-worthy that won't be obsolete for at least 2 or 3 weeks after its release.

It's not like you didn't see this coming. How long have you had your Desire for now? A couple of months?

If the rumors are true, the soon to be released Droid2 Pro/Droid2 World Edition. It is supposedly going to be clocked at 1.2ghz.

Big whoop. You can already overclock the old 550mhz droid to 1.2 if so desired. Mine sits at 1ghz all the time. Seriously though that's tits. At this rate, next year, octo-core, 5 ghz phones. Calling it right now

lol but the difference is that the cpu that is native at 1ghz is faster because it takes less to do that. Overclocking also eats your battery like no tomorrow. Been there, done that (Wizard and Rhodium). Won't do it again.

not to mention the increased heat output and accelerated deterioration of your hardware.

Indeed good sir. Car-charger is most necessary. Can't go more than 4 or 8 hrs without needing to plug it in if you use it often. I've gotten used to bringing my cord with me many places.

editski: Any word on android/froyo/whatever 2.3?

take a hike, square

That's what temp monitors, task managers and 12-month upgrade deals are for

yeah sure, until your provider won't cover your fried phone because they discovered you were using a custom firmware that voided your warranty.
