2) Darude - Sandstorm
3) Castles in the Sky

And so on....As you can see he is trying to appeal to all those
damn teeny-boppers out there....I swear if MTV starts playing
trance I will kill myself....I know Im going to see a bunch of

how Ray Munn looks like the backstreet boys....That reminds isnt
Ray Munn a backdoor boy anyways????Oh by the way the transition between songs is absolute shyte!!!!AND TO TOP IT OFF, HE CONCLUDED
THE CD WITH ONE OF THE GREATEST TRANCE TUNES OF ALL TIME

Slyder - Score

Please someone shoot me!

dangit, somebody hand me a doggie bag so I can hurl. Let's roll this twit, ray munnzer. The day MTV becomes the pusher of trance, it will be the end of civilization!

Maybe I'm stupid, but someone needs to explain to me why mainstream trance is so bad

I think its fine the way it is, Trance has come a long way in the music world, it didn't need MTV to get its music to the public. I'm just not a big fan of MTV. Like I said, MTV is in for a fast buck, not nurturing the music/rave movement. What next? Playboy gonna get in on it too? hehe

plus, the success of the underground scene becoming big doesn't have to be dependent on commercializtion, it never did - until now. UK is bringing their style into the US and Canada, its an invasion in a big way. Who needs MTV?

Mainstream. Is it not the main reason we all listen to trance is because of the crud of mainstream (pop, country, rock. r&b) today?

Talking

Trance is not dead and neither is any type of electronic music. Trance will just change into another form. Some ppl believe everything they hear.

Posted by Narcotic Mind on May-31-2001 06:01:

I don't get it.
here in Israel tower records and any other CD store is overflowed by house and trance CDs, ofcourse the MTV music and rock takes a place too but the section of trance is huge. and you can buy trance CDs for 10-20$.
and ANYONE here knows what trance is, and i mean everyone (even my mother).
and ofcourse trance rule the clubs...

you lucky people. about 4-5 years ago, these import CDs cost me 50-60 bucks canadian for ONE CD!! Plus, most the tracks were average and only one good tune on these CDs. Today, the prices are better, but not any cheaper.

you got any mp3s?

Oh god.. ain't that right, but where else would bullshit like this happen?? Only in the money hungry America... where all great music can turn to shit!!

Posted by JM on May-31-2001 06:40:

dude, i don't want trance to be mainstream.....that will suck....it's a neat thing that not so many ppl listen to trance or know what the hell trance is here where i live, then it might as well be like N'sync or shit like that...everyone will listen to it, and i wont be having that special feeling knowing everyone else is missing out.....

anyways....MTV & trance bad combination, fukkin MTV stick to the boy bands and the hip-hoppers and bad electronic music such as Prodigy hehe,

aahhhhhh, kinda makes me mad in a way.....

>JM<

RE: MTV and Trance if it were Mainstream

See in Europe you all don't over expose music groups like we do over here in North America so it's cool that way, but MTV and MM would fuck up Trance and any other underground electronic music here very easy, so i'm gonna quote one of my favorite underground hip-hop emcee's by sayin.... "I don't want to be Main-stream, i wanna to Piss in it!"

Posted by tu_face on May-31-2001 11:38:

now why the hell would someone not want to share the feeling we get from trance w/ everyone in the world
what kind of fucked up selfish thinking is that?
you get a special feeling knowing that others are missing out? really cause that actually makes me sad. i wish some people were open minded enough to give trance a try so that they could get that feeling.
the special feeling i get doesnt come from the fact that other people dont get it.. it comes from the emotion in the music
and the music makes me want to share that feeling.

Posted by Narcotic Mind on May-31-2001 12:27:

I know i turned some of my friends into trance-lovers just by playin some tunes for them, but don't think that anyone who has a chance will become a trance-lover. yes i know, it's hard to get but some people just don't like trance so don't think that people who doesn't listen to trance is just because they don't know the genre...

Posted by goldenarmZ on May-31-2001 12:36:

believe it or not, I used to hate trance and all electronic music. but I saw the light and there's no going back now!!

LaterZ

Posted by PSi on May-31-2001 15:23:

I see what you mean Lyne star

It wouldnt be all that bad but i would feel kinda burned knowing that all these kids who are going to listen to this commercial trance thinks its the best!!!!! and that no body must have ever heard of this kind of music!!!

its the new thing.....thats what they would say

and that would piss me off!

Posted by mute79 on May-31-2001 18:20:

ok, first of all, someone said sandstorm was pop. like, wtf?! where the hell u get that from? sandstorm is trance bro... sorry if youre living in denial, but it is trance, and if mtv starts playing, it does not automatically change its status... second, someone also said they would stop listenin to trance if it became mainstream? then dude, youre into trance for the wrong reasons, theres a shitload of ppl who listen to trance/house cuz they think it will make them cool instantly, ya right...

That cuz americans are ignorant without sound too much of an english prick. sorry *shrugs*

Posted by patticus on May-31-2001 18:38:

no, ravemonkey, you're absolutely right. that's how it is here in vancouver... so hurting, even people who supposedly are "party kids", hardcore ravers, think they know what trance is but will still refer to it as a techno sound. or "all that techno stuff"

and these are the people who are like "Yeah i like tiesto, but trance was popular (cool to listen to) 2 years ago, who is he again?" well thats just fucking great, dumbasses.

they know their hard house and their deep house (thats clubbers) but they think trance is all cheesy synths and riffs, or god forbid, "techno."

blecchhhhhhh.

Posted by DRM on May-31-2001 18:43:

Thank you for not takin that the wrong way. i cud've got into trouble 4 that. and i totally agree wiv u. it sucks but thats life.

Posted by LiquidX on May-31-2001 20:03:

Well, MTV didnt push trance into the states.. trance, at least here in Miami has been pushed by the DJ's, and have to admit the local radio station ( have to give props to it, since thanx to my local radio, I was able to get into the scene ) and well... if MTV does get the trance, I only want it in order to see some TRANCE videos, and stop d/loading them.. plus.. I hope they follow what MTV europe is doing, they do some dope stuff overseas.. go live on IBIZA, club tunes been played, and heaving Judge Jules and PVD spinning live ?!?! well... MTV has to get at least a clubbers DANCE music channel or something.. and since we mostly hate MTV here, well, I hope to see some dedicated DANCE video music channel.. but since we are in the USA, this is all monopoly.. so this wont happen, MTV is the only f*cking channel that can bring to my home trance videos.. if that ever happens.. so i wont complain... and guys, stop talking that MTV is all for the money.. EVERYSINGLE thing in the USA is done for the money.. so does the PRESIDENT!!

Posted by Narcotic Mind on Jun-01-2001 05:15:

MTV Europe is probably very samiliar to yours, they really don't play many house/dance (not even mentioning trance), they used to play some alice deejay/darude but they stopped that either, all you can hear right now is all the US-Crapy-Pop...
and btw they make a commercial break every 8-10 minutes for 5 minutes...

Posted by Renegade on Jun-01-2001 05:49:

I think a few of you need to get your heads out of your arses.

Most of you are winging about commercial music, but you're forgetting that everyone has to start somewhere. I mean how many of you jumped straight from pop music into real electronic music? I know I didn't. It was guys like Culture Beat and Ultrasonic who got me into electronic music - and I mean I look back on shit like that and cringe these days. But I had to start somewhere, and if it wasn't for guys like this getting airplay for electronic music I doubt very much that I would've been able to find an avenue to get into it.

And you have to remember that in places like the US where electronic music is still in its infancy (even though the yanks will rightly point out that the US is where the electronic music movement originated anyway) guys like Darude etc. are the ones who are going to get an entire generation interested in electronic music. But these guys are just a stepping block: from here you'd hope that they move onto the less 'commercial' artists, but even if they don't, I'd rather have the public listening to Darude than Destiny's Child or Shania Twain.

quote:
everyone will listen to it, and i wont be having that special feeling knowing everyone else is missing out.....

This just typifies the arrogance that so many people interested in electronic music have: our music isn't an esoteric expression only for people who think they're cool, you shouldn't be listening to trance just because it makes you feel above everyone else, it should be, like someone else pointed out before me, an experience to be shared with as many people as possible. Anyway, would you rather have everyone listening to trance (however commercial it may be) or to acts like N-Sync and the Backstreet Boys? No offence, but you seem like the sort of person would winge either way.

Personally I think that guys like Corsten, AVB, Tiesto et al are commercial, but I don't winge when people talk about them or listen to them, because I understand that it's all relative - there'd be a lot of people who think that the stuff I listen to is commercial - and that music, like I said, isn't something to be made esoteric and known only to the few, that it's something that we should all do our best to experience all types and all genres.

If MTV starts playing commercial trance then hey, it's better than no trance at all right?

(BTW, the Sanctuary mix of Silence was getting club exposure in Melbourne way back in March/April 99, or even earlier, months before it caught on anywhere else, which goes to emphasise my assertion that Melbourne is the club capital of the southern hemisphere.)

Posted by Narcotic Mind on Jun-01-2001 06:00:

I will say this once again:
you think that our generation isn't expose to trance? perhaps, but most of the people in my country know what trance is, and most of them listened to trance, and there are many trance lovers, but many of my friends still prefer rock upon trance (not much of pop in my country), so don't think that anyone who will listen to trance will become a trance fan.

Posted by Renegade on Jun-01-2001 06:06:

No I don't think that the majority of people outside of Europe do know what trance is. Look at all the stories earlier in this thread about people hearing trance and not knowing what the hell it is.

That's way I say it needs exposure, regardless of how commercial you construe this music to be.
