Don't play any trance. Your going to ruin the night for the majority of people, and everyones going to hate you

Like someone said before you have to know your crowd, so unless they're all tranceaddicts, playing trance is a very bad idea.

Posted by whiskers on Apr-15-2003 00:08:

PROM IS TEH SUCKS

the crowd blows too

it's all hyped up beyond any reasonable reason

that's why i'm not going (even though it happens only once in a lifetime... so freaking what? it doesn't mean crap to me)

sorry, it's just that my female 'friends' have been bothering me too much about this stuff lately

Posted by CATHAIN on Apr-15-2003 00:45:

Play "The Horrorist - one night in new york city"
This will definitely sum the whole night up

Posted by trite on Apr-15-2003 01:28:

Coldplay - Clocks (Heaven and Earth Divided Mix) and Andain - Beautiful Things would be good prom songs.
Maybe Justin Timberlake - Rock Your Body (Sander Kleinenberg's Just in the Club Mix)
If you only you could get your hands on them...

Anything you could play will have to be pretty borderline genre wise.

We didn't even have a prom at my school

Posted by mndeg on Apr-15-2003 02:53:

from my knowledge of trendy mtv music you should play
any eminem song you heard on the radio
any 50 cent song you heard on the radio
good charlette - the anthem <-wtf, don't they realize punk or whatever is as trendy as rap/pop

Posted by PhaseFour on Apr-15-2003 03:15:

hmm well see, i really wanna be a school dj one of these days, but its gonna be impossible, since its tough to get a crowd response from trance, unless its super energetic (ie infected mushroom or something)

but for prom, dont even try to experiment, just stick with pop and stuff...examples:

cry me a river
avril lavigne stuff
50 cent
ja rule

OH yeah, the new deep dish mix of p diddy might work, if you can find it somewhere

As for poppy stuff:

Gabriel & Dresden- Acid Elliot
Filter- Take My Picture (Hybrid Remix)

Posted by Cafster on Apr-15-2003 03:48:

@ my prom the DJ started out with trance in the begining (like all through the dinner portion) to keep people calm while they eat but start to give them i beat. played stuff like "Chicane Feat. Bryan Adams - Dont Give Up" and built up from there to get people on the floor. before i knew it people were comming to me to find out what song he was playing cause they actually liked it.

so its worth a try to start the night with some trance and if the crowd isnt feeling it switch to the mainstream stuff. ultimatly its your call.

Posted by psychosomatica on Apr-15-2003 04:02:

I was thinking of requesting some trance tunes at my prom... i still dunno whether i should do it or not. may 30th is the day. I was thinking of requesting some trip hop... instead of trance, which might be inappropriate, depending on how the dj meshes it with the rest of the night... but yea.. thx for bringing up the topic..

Posted by Beat_Chemist on Apr-15-2003 04:19:

Heh anythings better than what they had at my prom. They played Dixie chics and the electric slide I left very quickly after electric slide.

Posted by fr0st on Apr-15-2003 05:01:

Playing trance at a prom is a bad idea in my mind id stick with pop rap rnb stuff like that i think trance would realy kill the mood unless the entire crowd was into it....

well watever..thanks in advance

I dunno, how popular is trance where you live? If you live in Shanghai China, play Chinese music or something. I have no idea how popular trance is in China. Hell I'd prefer any nation where American music hasn't soiled Top40 radio. Hell I'd bet Iraq has a better music scene than the US.

Man this would be so mad to hear loud!!!

The Thrillseekers - Dreaming of You

That song would give them a night to remember.

Posted by twizta on Apr-15-2003 14:35:

haha
thanks for the suggestions

any other songs like 'this love' that you may know of?

Posted by chris_norris on Apr-15-2003 14:35:

Repeat the vocals from SHOKK - My Madness Says.... Over and over then play loads of evil as fuck techno.

They should enjoy that - especailly the cheerleader types

nah j/k

play somethin easily accesible - think about the songs you listened to when you were first starting to like trance - maybe some decent pop remixes (although these are quite few nd far btwn )

JT - Rock Your Body (Sander Kleinenberg's Just in the Club Mix) would go down nicely in a prom, I'd have a good time listening to it with a hot date

maybe

*Des'Ree - Kissing You
*Counting Crows - Colorblind
*Celine Dion - Because You Loved Me
*Sarah Brightman - Deliver Me

not exactly same style as This Love but still have similar sentimental value

i think people could really get into house and as for mellow stuff maybe throw in some classic rock like floyd or rolling stones. i dont know if that would fly though. most prom music is so cheesy and thats what people expect...

Posted by bundantoh on Apr-16-2003 01:10:

you could always try drum n bass.
