great posts so far

We invaded on the basis that he had them and now the Bush Administration says that they will be suprised if any turned out all.

*****UPDATE*****

US: 'Saddam had no weapons of mass destruction'

By Neil Mackay

The Bush administration has admitted that Saddam Hussein probably had no weapons of mass destruction.
Senior officials in the Bush administration have admitted that they would be 'amazed' if weapons of mass destruction (WMD) were found in Iraq.

According to administration sources, Saddam shut down and destroyed large parts of his WMD programmes before the invasion of Iraq.

Ironically, the claims came as US President George Bush yesterday repeatedly justified the war as necessary to remove Iraq's chemical and biological arms which posed a direct threat to America.

Bush claimed: 'Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. We will find them.'

The comments from within the administration will add further weight to attacks on the Blair government by Labour backbenchers that there is no 'smoking gun' and that the war against Iraq -- which centred on claims that Saddam was a risk to Britain, America and the Middle East because of unconventional weapons -- was unjustified.

The senior US official added that America never expected to find a huge arsenal, arguing that the administration was more concerned about the ability of Saddam's scientists -- which he labelled the 'nuclear mujahidin' -- to develop WMDs when the crisis passed.

This represents a clearly dramatic shift in the definition of the Bush doctrine's central tenet -- the pre-emptive strike. Previously, according to Washington, a pre-emptive war could be waged against a hostile country with WMDs in order to protect American security.

Now, however, according to the US official, pre-emptive action is justified against a nation which simply has the ability to develop unconventional weapons.

Fits nicely with the thread I made about the NOT FOUND WMD.. very nice post, Im wondering that if this is true, what will people now say for the justification for war.. it will also be a big hit for the Bush administration, unless they play the game REAL dirty.(not that they haven't allready)

My guess is that the Bush junta will just stress how great they were in removing Saddam Hussein from power and returing Iraq back to the people. IMO this response is not entirely true, because whoever will end up in charge of Iraq must have the US's full approval to rule--and not necesarily that of the Iraqi people.

Forget it. Didn't you know??? Everyone has already forgotten about this!!! "War in Iraq?" What are you talking about??

www.cnn.com doesn't even have Iraq on its front page anymore! Ergo, Iraq never existed! What war? We were always at peace with Iraq.... Iraq was always our friend.

I can't wait till Matrix 2 comes out, don't you think?? Ooh I've also gotta see X:Men2, I hear it's very good!! I can't believe I didn't see it on opening night! Ah well, I never was an XMen fan. But Matrix, hoo boy, that's gonna be a killer. The gimmick scene will be very nice, let me tell you ...

The casus belli kept shifting as justification after justification fell flat in the face of contrary evidence and the flimsy foundations upon which they were formed in the first place. This is a great article detailing the shifts in rationale behind the war:

http://www.zmag.org/content/showart...=15&ItemID=3565

Of course, the "liberation" of the Iraqi people struck the greatest chord with the citizens of the west, so that - after 6 months of exposure to misinformed propoganda about all the weapons Iraq has and about what a threat it poses - has now been transplanted at the top of the reasons provided by the coalition as to why this war was fought.

Of course, as it is becoming increasingly evident that the Iraqi people are resisting coalition occupation and this form of neo-colonial "liberation" - particularly in the Shiite south - Bush and his junta may well have to invent new, even more creative reasons as to why this was such a good, necessary war.

i know everyone wont agree...but its pretty obvious to me.

this war isnt for terrorism at all...the reason Bush said that he wants this, is because of 9-11-01 and shit. well thats b.s. because if almost all of the highjackers came from saudi arabia, why are we not doing anything to them? i will tell you why. O I L.

saudi arabia has the largest oil supply and we have good relations, so bush decided to turn the war against terrorism into "operation iraqi freedom". well guess what, the first thing we went for...WAS OIL! iraqs history has been "erased" since everyone robbed their museums. well good ol dubya doesnt care about that shit, he just wants his oil and revenge!

THIS WAR IS TOTAL BULLSHIT AND SHOULDNT BE TOLERATED BY ANYONE!

LOL. That reminds me of Orwell's 1984. One day two nations are at war against the third one and the next day when they make peace, all the newspapers are talking about their long-lasting friendship and cooperation. The sad truth is that such scenarios work for many people.

Reminds me of the Molotov-Ribbentrop non-aggression pact. If you read Pravda before the pact the Soviets called for an alliance against fascist Germany ... afterwards Pravda started printing articles calling for the mutual cooperation for the benefit of the two states
