I freaking hate cops like that. I've had cops interogate me on two occasions for stuff like hanging around a school at night or just walking home after 2. Stoping me for no apperent reason then try to get me to say something wrong. Its a load of crap. Lucky for me it was nothing as bad as what happen to you. And i understand from my expiriences as well that under that kind of pressure you get so scared that you forget what to do. but really all you have to remember is to get that badge number and file a complaint. At the very least. Cause there's no other way this is gonna Stop. im just glad i live in canada, cause i know if anything like that ever happened here those cops would be out of a job or at least suspeded and their names posted all over the papers.

from the sound of it, if you had asked for his badge # he would've yelled "officer down! suspect is evading arrest!" and shot you 
Well a something politically similar happened to someone I know. He was driving down the city, when he got pulled over by a cop for no reason(don't worry he's as white as milk n suga), the cop asked him for his license and then told him to get out of the car. They told him to open his trunk, and when they saw nothing interestin was in there, they put his hands behind his back and made him lie down on the pavement. They proceded to interrogate him about what he was hiding in his car, and where his stash is. Anyways, he was forced to spend a night in jail for NOTHING!!!!, and all his requests like badge numbers and lawyers were denied. So of course as soon as he got home the following day, he decided to get a lawyer and make a case out of all this. Well its two years later, and the case is goin nowhere!!!!
That's NYPD for ur ass.....ur guilty until ur proven innocent

I take jogs late at night, i.e. 3 am or so, and a lot of the time, a cop will pull up in his car and ask some stupid question like -

What kind of stupid question is that? First of all, I'm not running, I'm jogging. If I were running from something and I was only going that fast, I'd be the saddest sack of shit in the world. Second, if I were running from something, would I have my headphones on? Of course not, I'd be listening to see if whatever it was I was running from was nearby. Fucking stupid asshole cops.
Then, sometimes, just because they're bored, I suppose, even after I explain to them why the suggestion that I'm running from something is completely retarded, they ask more stupid questions, such as -
"isn't it a bit late to be going for a jog?"
As if I've got some sort of alterior motive. No, dipshit, I decided to go rob a convenience store and thought it might be nice to bring my mp3 player along and I was jogging there because, you see, I'm a very impatient person. I mean, maybe it's late for most people, but you don't fucking know me, so how would you have any idea whether or not it would be late for me? Fucking idiots.
It makes one want to be a criminal, because beating up on such pathetic competition would surely be quite profitable.

To be Blunt: The cops do not care. A good number probably get off on the powertrips they get by jerking people around.
My suggestion: Know your rights. if a cop is going to detain you, demand to know what you are being held on.
Do not be rude to the cop however.

I had a strange incident.
I was driving my buddy home after a night out at the pub, and it was still early (around 1am) on a thursday night. I get stopped by the RIDE program, and the cop asks me if I've been drinking.
I says: "No sir, I'm the DD tonight"
cop says: "Oh you're the DD tonight? That's kewl"
at which point he begins to walk away, when the other cop makes a comment "What, he hasn't been drinking?" With a big "that's impossible" look on his face.
The 2nd cop again asked me if I was drinking
I says "no sir"
cop: "are you sure? 'Cuz I can smell booze on you"
I says "I'm pos-*gulp*-ative"
I mean, I wasn't slurring. I was being as cooperative as possible. I looked at them in the eyes when I spoke. And they play the good-cop-bad-cop scenario on me? The fucking guy almost had me convinced that I went and drank then drove, christ.
In an unrelated incident, I was walking out of a bar one night and I noticed a big crowed. So I went over and said "outta my way, I got here late" as I pushed to get to the front.
What do I see? Some d00d is in cuffs and getting his face slammed into the curb by the police. The dood was bleeding all over the face. Apparently the d00d pushed a female cop, and then he got 0wned.
what a jackass, pushing a female cop.

thats a terrible situation.
you should have used your rights and ask them quetions, threaten them with a lawsuit since you haven't done nothing wrong and they you will win in court, and remember there badge number and report them, try to get witnesses to the incident
