Get off your gf Rabbit boy and start practicing. You have a long ways to go if you didn't know what a set is.

Posted by ChavezHype on May-09-2003 00:46:

I'm not gonna flame you like everyone else here, but the answer to your question is yes.
If you want to make it big Djing (hard like hitting it hollywood style) you have to remember nearly no big DJ now doesn't produce their own music. In fact I'd say it's nearly impossible to be a big name DJ without producing music. You'll be able to DJ without school but you won't go anywhere with it. There are big DJ's without lots of productions, however if you don't go to college or university you're gonna have a hell of the time in the studio. I plan on taking a course in this as an elective. If you drop out and work at a place like mcDonalds, you will have to wait years on something that odds are against you. You won't be able to afford a studio and support yourself too well without a high school education. If you get fired from your job, who's gonna hire someone without a high school education after getting fired? Do decent, and get to college you'll be much better off. You've got a better chance, you may even be able to go to other countries and meet with a whole bunch of music cultures etc.. etc. School can only help even if it does take some time away. You can still practise with enough time between school and work.

Posted by jdat on May-09-2003 03:47:

the reason why he should further his education is in case his "career" as a dj doesn't work out

Posted by arctic on May-09-2003 11:37:

you don't know what a set is, and you want to chuck in school for a dj career

Posted by shawnb on May-09-2003 11:59:

im a manager, not a factory person!!!!

yeah well first of all even if i try to make it to the big dj name i dont think ill make it, and i dont have plans to do so. i just wanna do it for fun, u know. like a hobby for example. of course its everybody's dream to make it to the top, but not everyone makes it. i read this article about tiesto and the article said that tiesto never thought he would be a big one, so i dunno. btw, workin at mcdonalds as a manager is better than working elsewhere. i wanted to quit once but they couldnt afford that. i dont think ill get fired. they just love me, i dunno. i cant work in a factory or somethin. my job isnt hard at all, i just sit on the computer all day. i chek my email at work to, lol. but neways, right now i wanna dj in small clubs nd stuff. but for the future, not sure.

Posted by BobTheSlob on May-09-2003 17:42:

Honestly man, you need to do some thinking.

Being content with a manager's job at McDonald's isn't aiming very high. That's not that much money. Plus, if you can't work hard enough to get out of HIGH SCHOOL, which every dumb fuck with opposable digits can do, then how are you going to have the work ethic to become a DJ that makes enough to live off of? Just getting your foot in the door will be a huge task, let alone getting a residency at a club. You defenitely need to get your priorities straight.

Posted by JohnSmith on May-09-2003 17:52:

give the kid a break he just said he is only doing it for a hobby.

being a manager at mcdonalds is not much maybe, but it's better than being a burger flipper at mcdonalds!

do whatever you gotta do to get money for your equipment, and later records. Personally, i busted my ass for 4 years in college so i could get a better job, now i make webpages and bring in about a grand every 2 weeks. it was enough to buy my decks and keep me in records, so, good enough for me!

keep workin at MCds shawn, and keep going to school. save up, and when you can afford it, buy some technics or some CDJs if that's the way you wanna go. just don't put all your eggs in one basket and quit school or work for DJing, that's just dumb.

Posted by ChavezHype on May-09-2003 20:57:

I wish I made about 26 grand a year.
I'm still in high school anyway, I guess i make enough to support my hobby. Obviously I can't buy loads of records each week but I can get some. I also don't have to pay for living expenses which is also a plus. All disposable income!!! Make $$$ Make $$$

Posted by shawnb on May-09-2003 23:21:

i m not a kid!!!!!!!!!!!

people please dont call me a kid. btw, if i ever get into club djing, im gonna quit my manger job for sure. i try quitting but those guys there need me, which means its highly unlikely i will get fired. nd plus, tiesto used to be in small clubs, thas how he became big. i dont think it had nething to do wit skool, or maybe it did. but if i can make enough money to afford everything i need, then ill just stick wit that job. i hope u understand.

You dont need highschool for anything, drop out and become a dj.
More time to practice, and less time in math. If you want to be really cool, do alot of crazy drugs, and start fights with cops. I heard that helps you become a very cool dj also.
(putting eggs in baskets is also fun)
(Capps lock 4 life)

why would i wanna get in fights wit cops, u must be crazy. i think u need some schooling for sure, maybe ull be more mature. and djing isnt about being cool, because if u just wanna be cool u wont make it. so just shut the f**k up or ill have to come there and break ur face.

Posted by shawnb on May-10-2003 03:19:

how's that?

how is that? when i dropped high school i never knew i wanted to be a dj. but later i thought of it, started learning and now im practicing hard. all i need now is some gigs, and in brampton noone doesnt listen to trance, unless its some tony monoco's tracks. i just need some gigs, thas all.

And 4 the dj thing ... if you wanna be famous you only need to turn good and have a bit luck

well ive noticed that the north americans that are on this forum keep saying u need school, and the europeans dont really care. wats going on here??
