Yes I do and linux still beats it by a long shot

macs do suck, but they are still more superior at handling graphics/videos because of the way their processors treat data... i'm not quite sure about the whole technicality side, i just read that somewhere. and macs are superior at using dual processors - they spread the load equally on both cpus, while pcs overload 1 cpu and let the other one handle what's left.

BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN MACS DON'T SUCK DONKEY BALLS

What does everyone have against donkey balls anyway? I hear they're quite a delicacy in some parts of the world.

Ummm... Timeslicing is an implementation of multitasking, and linux does it too. You don't have much choice when you only have one processing unit. Although the computers in the last few years are all superscalar-piplining-multicycle meaning they have some parallelism in them.

BTW mac OSX is linux.

And I think they say mac is good for graphics not because it has superior hardware rather because it doesn't have compatability problems like windows. All software and hardware comes from apple and you know it will work (well at least it's suppposed too...) and won't give you the grief windows/linux does, and being a graphic designer you probably know squat about computer maintenance.

AHHHH!!! MACs are garbage. I am forced to use them in my school and every day I want to destroy them with hammers.

the worst. they are so complicated. and whats with only one mouse button?? and whats with not having a print screen button?

Lets take a look at apple.com where they give 10 reasons to switch from PC to Mac. WHY SWITCH?

1. The Mac.. It just works.

what kind of reason is this? PCs work too...

2. It doesnt crash.

I run a p4 with xp and I havnt had my computer crash in lets see.. 5 or 6 months. and when it crashed it was because of my graphics card settings.

at school I've had macs crash on me at least once a week! And dont tell me it's my fault because they crash on stupid things like importing video clips into final cut.

3. Simply the best in digital music

Lies. The mac's standard sound card does not even run at 24.96 audio. As with PCs, you need to buy a 3rd party card for the "best in digital music".

4. The missing link in digital photography.

What the earth? There is no missing link to start with, and iPhoto clearly does not "revolutionizes the way you save, organize, share and enjoy digital photos". Windows can do the exact same thing.

5. Your own digital entertainment center.

.. do I honestly have to comment on this? How is this a reason to switch to a mac? Are PC's not "digital entertainment centers" too? I see a DVD rom on my pc.. I see a firewire port to connect my digital video cameras, and I see everything else macs have!!!!!!JSdkahfdsa

6. Goes everywhere you go.

Clearly the imacs dont go everywhere you go, they are specifically talking about their ibooks. ..did they forget that PCs have laptops too?

7. It's built for the internet.

Lol then what's XP? not built for the interent? XP integrates the internet more effectively into their op than mac.

8. Office is Office. and then some.

This is what I call hillarious. They are proud to support Microsoft Office vX. Unfortunately they must have forgot they were writing a list for reasons to switch away from PC.

9. Works effortlessly with PCs

I commend apple for this reason. It will definately make me switch to a mac, so I can work effortlessly with the PCs that I just switched from.

10. It's beautiful

Lol.. the last time I checked there were endless case designs for PCs, giving you more variety and a bigger selection, so you can get a design that suits you. White won't match everyone's setup

As you can see this list is pitiful and apple should take it down immediately.

Aahahha

That is soo true.. Amen to that...

Happens to me all the time when at my school doing my design work.

haha

nice post man

both are good computers. i think PC's have the edge tho because Mac's are way to standerized.

and for those who attack bill gates for being evil monopolistic prick, steve jobs is just as bad, he's just the underdog

Posted by DJ Lac on May-09-2003 13:37:

LOL

Ok this is out of the mac question, but... why in all the world on the internet, on the forums when people make soo many mistakes, they want to pick a fight with a person or make them try to look stupid they go for the all "TYPO SCENARIO". Talk about the funniest thing I have seen in my life. LOL if its a way to humilate me in someways its not going to work or stop my all cap threads. I mean come on now this is the internet we are talking about the BLUE RIBBON here. Then again your choice ahahah..

Then again your one of those guys that think they are too good for everyone else so you try to post something mature and see if that will end my obsessive compulstion to hate macs I'll give you a big plus on your ego for saying that and brownie points for hating me on the spot. But then again this is not your thread and you didn't have to reply so I guess we all know what you really want others to see. Me being humilated and you being a "hero". *claps his hands.. you can now take mart with you on a tour around the TA Forum and explain to everyone how am really a jackass and to keep the citizens safe from harm.

I just found it quite ironic that you were referring yourself as a genius yet you couldn't even spell it out right
I rarely pick on anyone for spelling but that was just too good of an opportunity to pass.

Wow, you must be a psychic if you can analyze me that well based on ONE POST! Wow, you're gonna be a millionaire with your talents soon, I'm sure!!

Look - I'm not playing a hero or trying to humiliate you. I don't care how you feel about macs (I've never tried one, hell, even SEEN one to form an opinion), I was merely trying to make you stop the flooding with huge letters.
Had you actually thought about it for a second rather than taking your time to write a "snappy" answer you'd noticed it. Fat chance, eh?

Posted by DJ Lac on May-09-2003 16:20:

Actually

It wasn't snappy it was just my observation but then again hey Peace be with you heheh

Heh, I've got nothing agains you man, but those large fonts piss me off.

Peace out.

Posted by k.k.d. on May-09-2003 16:50:

Brkk.. This thread is dumbest ever, but ill just post my 2 cents and neve return to it again (call me names if you want)..

As a B. Sc. in omputer sciences, I activelly use or have used many operating systems, and am fairly familiar with all of them.

Macs are being (now) hardware-inferior to the PC counterparts, and it is one hundred percent true. G4 is an aging processor (almost as old as Athlon architecture), and simply does not quite have the juice compaired to today's Intel/AMD processors. Moreover, the 266 Mhz bus, the slow memory, and all other little quirks make modern Macs NOT performance powerhorses.

However, that may change with the advent of the new IBM processor, which (on paper) looks VERY impressive... Maybe apple will decide to use better components as well..

However, on the operating system end, there is no OS that even approaches OS X in terms of versatility.. You scream about penguins and linuxes (which you obviously don't use), yet ignore simple fact that OS X is BSD core (means 99% of *nix programs are compilable and runnable on it), with CONSUMER SOFTWARE SUPPORT!!

What is consumer software support? Let's see, Office? Photoshop? Maya? Basically, most of the professional programs that are available on Windows.. So you have the POWER and FLEXIBILITY of *nix system, PLUS application support!!! Sure, you don't have some random bastard game on Mac, but if you're a gamer, there's no secret here, go buy yourself a PC box.. On the other side, a power user like me will enjoy writing scripts in either AppleScript or Perl, use many of the developpement tools to build applications (where are those with Windows? .NET? But hell, that's 500 bucks more!), etc.

On the other hand, NT technology progressed a lot, and Windows 2k/XP are actually usable, which makes me content.. However, the console (or cmd.exe or ommand.exe, as you call it) is basically the crapiest thing since Simmon's Beauty Rest adds. Back in DOS days it was fine, but by today's standard, it's totaly awful. Hence, installation of Cygwin (Bash shell layer over windows) is obligatory for any power user, but it's 1 GB of space wasted, and runs painfully slow. Conclusion? NT is a good OS, but LACKS a good console, and thus becomes worthless for some tasks. That, and windows protecting accesses to some files annoys the fuck out of me ;(

Third, the *nix systems (Linux, FreeBSD, SunOS, etc): very good systems, I adore them (hence why I adore OS X), but are still not quite up to the status of consumer OS. If something goes wrong, you better be an exeprt to solve the problem. Driver support gets better and better, but it's still a long cry from NT. Excellent to code (I kinda like QT libraries, they are sexy), passable to use for basic tasks, but it does not have support fo some of the essential software (to me), like Photoshop. And no, GIMP doesn't quite cuts it (though it's okay). Thus, saying unix is better than Mac OS X is just being narrowminded, considering that the later has all what *nixes are good for, plus consumer software support base.

The point of my little (and perhaps senseless) babble? Judging from your posts, you are not quite qualified to say what sucks and what doesn't in terms of OSes, as for hardware's point of view, all is relative, for rare are general-purposes usages that are noticeably slower in real life on a Mac than they are on Windows machine.. Moreover, I'd say that if there ever was in a magical world a MacOS X for windows, I would be the first to buy it and install on my comp..

So yeah.. Those are my 2 cents

Posted by DJ Lac on May-09-2003 16:59:

woot

might as well get virtual mac os x for pc lol
