a lot of people i know they call it techno
but they all say the same thing about trance that it is kinda basic and its repetitive. but of course this is what they hear on those trance 4000 cds all the cheese but when they hear the great stuff us ta's hear then they kinda change their minds. people here in the states listen to hip hop and in my town a lot of punk. now i dont have a problem with either of them if its good ill listen to it but those punk heads think their music is better and how can it be when its screaming and yelling and u cant understand a word and they all say there's a message behind it usually anti govt crap which is funny cuz they get paid to do the cds and shows and its govt money. hip hop on the other hand if u look at the charts its all hip hop and all the wannabes like it cuz its sells. i can throw an old school rap artist track that wasnt commericalized and they will be like who's this??? majority of the hip hop fans like hip hop cuz its all they hear unless a track like dj sammy - heaven is being played by the stations and they think the vocals are the best ever
if they only knew...
Real hip-hop is not dead... don't lose the faith my friend! If you are doubtful, I can name some artists worthy of mention. Check out Prefuse 73, he's on Warp Records (same label as Aphex Twin), and he is changing hip-hop.
I moved from hip hop to trance , there both very nice genres of music i still listen to a hip hop at work and in my car and home trance

I moved on from rap to trance way back in 1998 when I became bored with it. I'm glad I did because the scene has turned to garbage lately...I mean we have "artists" making commercial hits out of songs about shoes...of all things....SHOES!
I will still listen to a few artist such as Nas, DMX, Eminem and a handful of others. But I've pretty much given up on following the scene.
...
I stopped in 93
that's when Hip Hop lost it's fun
Trance is by far ruled out Hip Hop in my opinion
there's too many +'s for Trance and too many -'s for Hip Hop
Hip Hop doesn't compare , it's too negative
When it comes to hip-hop...oh god...especially here in the states...not something I want to get into but I don't think i could EVER get into it. I just never liked the rough negativity as someone mentioned. Sometimes it's almost depressing... I dont know....I know it's not all the same ....but guess it's just not my cup of tea and never will be. I start getting dizzy after a minute and fifteen seconds of hearing.
Real hip hop is still as prevalent as ever, its just "Underground"
Living legends kick fucking ass, DJ Vadim bad ass as well you just have to look harder i have hiphop head freinds so i still hear it quite a bit, it seems like all you hear is crap now is cuz you are into trance and electronic genres so you dont dig for good stuff in that ne more, the mainstream is crap and always has been pretty much with a few exceptions. And trance is a whole different boat dont worry about it going into that walk of music.

Shit, I was listening to hip-hop since the beginning, when digital underground and nwa were around.(I'm sure you know all about them) -Anyway, I better stop this before it gets ugly, but before running your mouths fuckin read! It's a fuckin question. hey and I was also kidding about that last part too (well, half kidding) |

| Originally posted by SOLO-D1 I agree with some of the things you have to say, but the hip-hop that is dominating the charts is commercialized hip-hop, were you have these so-called hard rappers singing along with pop singers! Secondly when you have seasoned rappers say "Were the last of a dying breed" (scarface) or "Fuck rap you can have it back" (Dr. Dre) they obiously dont like or think something is changing in hip-hop. Thirdly the real Hip-hop culture is not about "sitting on doves" or getting "bling bling", All I hear now from so called rappers is the same thing. Although all I listen to is trance now, I do listen to the old hip-hop stuff too like wu-tang etc.. I'm sure there are plenty of real hip-hop heads out there, but my point is that they are NOT the majority they are the minority, and it seems to me that they have been on the decline these past few years... and I do hope that hip-hop never dies, but in this case I hope that real hip-hop never dies not the Hip-Pop that you listen to on the radio. |

fake hip hop is very well alive, and its taking over the billboard charts in the US with artists like 50 cent nelly jay-z ja rule etc...i don't even consider those artists hip hop artists, they're pop artists to me...good hip hop was in the late eighties to the late nineties when we had eric b and rakim, EPMD, wu-tang, tupac, biggie smalls, nas, mobb deep, ice cube...now these whack ass "rappers" today are living off their successes and fame
and there is no way trance will ever become big in the united states...people here dont listen to anything without vocals/lyrics and catchy beats

yeah hella rappers sold out now i mean sure one can appreciate the added income they must be makin but really nas used to be tight but then he did shit with what nsync or something (to give an example) like that but like i still think rappers like eminem and some other guys on the mainstream are dope, commercial or not eminems lyrics are fucking sick

real hip hop is indeed dead...but that means hip hop is commercialized, cheesy, radio friendly which will ensure that it makes money, gets rappers in crappy movies, dominate radio and is the background music in every other commercial...you dont want trance to "take over"
Hip Hop has the same struggle as trance has. There's a shitload of commercial crap that's getting into the charts and smelling up the whole genre, and there's lots of quality underground stuff that has quality productions, meaningful and observant lyrics and lyricist skills that are quite impressive. It's just like trance, you gotta dig past all the chart crap in order to get to all the good stuff, which there is plenty of if you know where to look. So saying that hiphop is dead cos ppl like Ja Rule and Nelly keep plaguing us on MTV is like saying trance is dead cos Lasgo and the likes are ravaging the charts.

Hip hop isn't dieying and it wont be dead in a few years either. Even if it was trance most certantly wouldnt replace it as the most popular music genre.
hip hop isn't dead....just look at Fiddy cent.

i used to love hip hop, but most of the new shit sucks. Unfortunately it has become bigger than ever. Around here you cannot get away with anything but hip hop in the clubs, kind of sucks.
re:hiphop dead.. will trance takeover?
i tend to agree with dj digdug and sandleaper... i too started out a hiphopper(this is startin sound like a AA meeting or somethin lol).. but anyways... its not dead, just very much filled with commercial fake gangsta/r&b crap... but then again back in the "golden age" of hiphop MC's were still talkin bout "sucka mcs" and givin the "gas face" to "commerical hiphop"... etc..
just do some lookin... hieroglyphics crew is still makin some great stuff, Little Brother is a crew that has a prodcuer named 9th wonder makin great beats... Ive been diggin a mixcd from Canibiscentral.com that has all kinds of dope songs from Canibis & the 4 horsemen crew(rass kass, kurupt, killah priest & 'Bis)... I dig Mr Lif Aesop Rock too... soo many..
I think what we see and hear on the radio/tv is just so much we cant stand the genre... but thanks to p2p progs Ive been able to hear some new talent that kinda brings it back...
I mean is Trance all about DJ Sammy, Darude, & ATB?(thats pretty much all I hear on commercial radio/tv in the states)No, and thats the same with hiphop and Nelly/50 Cent/Ja Rule...
i dont think trance will "takeover", but we do have a great scene which is still growing... however I dont think we'll reach Love Parade status anytime soon lol... l8ers
