How can anyone be so ignorant and stupid... and what ever happened to freedom of expression...

You know, I always thought of Canada as a civilized, developed country... But now that you mentioned that "no dancing after 12" or whatever "law"... hmm... sounds like some third-world country to me, or dictatorship.

You know in some communist countries girls weren't allowed to have their hair styled a certain way... or people weren't allowed to walk the streets at night, because the government thought "everybody should be asleep at 3am, otherwise they're criminals..." I sense a link here!!

haha, that's funny....i totally agree Eugene...

they still have that every Friday night, but if you ask me there's alot of things to do in T.O. it's been slow though thru April/May but now that June's here there's been alot of things to do, you just got to keep your eyes open for events that happen.

these are some harsh rules. but you know, I live in canada, and this matter can be settled by a law suit, which can cancel out those rules.

check the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, it must have a line like "people can do whatever they want" cuz how can u make a rule of "no dancing after 3am" thats like saying "no watching TV" those rules can overturned easily.

they are indeed harsh. things are really going down hill. thanks for the suggestion about the law suit. it seems like more of a one person effort though. i was looking for something that people have done in other areas that everyone in the scene could participate in.

personally, I doubt thatll happen, but if it does, thats big news for me. That will affect buisness alot...cuz im a DJ(mostly for high schools) and if our dances cant go past 12, thatll suck ass in a huge way...but I dont think that it can happen..I live in cow town, not too far from edmonchuck..hopefully its not gonna happen..but if it does, all the AB parties r gonna be here....excellent....

you know, that wouldn't be too too bad. i've been to a few parties in calgary and they are pretty damn good. i had a blast seeing dj sakin on new years.

but seriously, the scene needs to be kept alive not only in edmonton, but all over. if they are able to kill it there, then other areas will follow suit, i'm sure. what sort of things have happened in calgary regarding this stuff? how did people react?

circumventions like this never happen in the 60s.

as for crime, it seems more frequent in etown than cowtown. The raves are a target for the criminal elements.

true... i believe edmonton (and alberta for that matter) typically a hick town. i don't find it surprising that the governing bodies there are so against "the scene" (for lack of a better term). i hope their efforts are blocked or else i'll have to party in my basement when i go back.

well that and no spitting on the sidewalks in Kanata, (Ottawa).

i have to agree with you. i've been in ottawa for over a year now and never heard of the "not spitting on sidewalks" by-law. at least you won't get caned for doing it!

these stupid las were scrapped a long time ago when the government realised raves and stuff werent actually all that bad lol

peace

did the government there just come to this realization on their own or was it due to some protests?

yeah the governments think CHANGE in general is a bad thing so most of em take the easy way out, by making new laws on the spot and shit because they have 'better' things to do. yeah right.

heh, no man. i would not bash ravers... trust. :O)

i like how the media reports on the "evil all-night dance parties known as raves"
and just how un-researched the reports are...
i frequent both raves and the clubs a lot, and from what i've seen, both have ups and downs, but so far i prefer the raves just due to the vibe...
i never have to worry much about pissing anyone off and gettting stabbed or something, cause there's no alcohol to fuel aggression

True enough, the media only reports the negative things that happen at Raves and then blow it out of proportion...
and the vibes are amazing at Raves.

Posted by Linx_da_cat on Jun-11-2001 03:27:

yeah and the stupid kids that OD isn't the fault of raves. but the media makes it looks like it is. pisses me off so much. gives the club and the people in it a bad rep. stupid stupid ODers.

Posted by fastmp3 on Jun-11-2001 03:28:

Nowadays the medias suck , they are full of shitty propaganda

Posted by j_spot on Jun-11-2001 03:35:

what did cow town do? well our mayor passed a by law...raves have to have permits now..they have to have security, access to water. And other petty little things, that should be going on anyways(cept the permits) IMO its not a bad deal..but for promoters its a hassle I guess

Well a lawsuit can be made by 1000's of people (collect a buck from each and u got enoght cash for a good lawyer) we had the same in toronto, where no gov't building could be used for a rave (and there are no large places that are not gov't owned. so we had this daytime rave right outside the City hall, we had like alot of DJ's come. it was basicly a free rave, after that, they dropped those rules.
