w00t I live in NYC... The demand here for everything is quite high... But I have one connection many dont... I have family in Israel and I intend to go there next year (if Im ready) and spin there for a few months. If all goes well, who knows, I might get asked to comeback or they will try to keep me out of the country.

Anyways, everyone and myself have said, put them to the test, you will never know unless you explore and experiment. BTW I heard some places let you rent turntables also, you should look into that.

Well i'd say what your saying about using friends technics because even though i have been recommending the technics i actually have stanton str8-100's which have more torque than the technics and a better pitch range just in general i love the robust feel of the technics and thats why i would recommend them to anyone but as u have said there are better turntables than technics that you can use get better performance out of now and still get used to technics in other ways for playing at clubs

Thanks for all your help so far

Thanks to everyone for helping me out and making this an impossible decision

I change my mind about every couple of hours. One of the issues also is cost. I don't mind buying used equipment if it is in near-mint shape. I have looking into it and it looks like I could get the Techs (MK-2) for $329 used with a used Stanton headshell and brand new styli.

I could get a pair of TTX1s for around $700 here in the States. The one thing I have to consider is how much a cartridge and styli will cost me. Can someone let me know what a quality cartridge and styli would cost me and what I should look for? I am looking to spin hard trance and deep house primarily...and maybe a little old skool hip-hop from time to time, but I can't see myself getting into battle mixing at all.

Thanks once again for all of your help. I appreciate your honest opinions. Regardless of what I ultimately end up choosing, I am confident that I will have made a solid, well-informed decision.

Don't be so confident... haha kidding!

As for carts, you can scheck out another post but generally the brands to look out for are shure and ortofon. Check out the models that you think may suit you best.

I got a little discount when I bought my TTX-1's from guitar center. The guy gave me the pair for 700 (a little more expensive than ebay, minus the shipping costs and worry that they will be messed up when they got here). I also bought some Stanton Grovemaster II's when i bougt 'em too, total was $825, VA state tax included. That was 3 months ago, havent regreted it yet. I have 1200's too that I keep right next to my TTX-1's, still finding I use my TTX-1's alot more. Ive never had any problem switing from my TTX-1's to 1200's, expect i have to push the record a little more when cueing cuz 1200's dont have nearly the tourqe the TTX-1 has, but other than that, I have no problem. I still hop on ebay everyonce and while to check the price of TTX-1's, and have never seen a pair of used ones up there in 4 months, that might say something to ya... Take the pepsi challange against the 1200 and see for yourself.

Peace

BTW, when i was thinking about getting my TTX-1's, all my buddys were very against them, and insisted on me getting 1200's. 4 of them have sold thier 1200's for TTX-1's.... Now I laugh..

ha...man everyone tech owner will be against it. It requires real hard-pressed convincing to pry the 1200s from a tech junkie fingers, which may even be cold and dead.
Gahh well anyways i guess that settles it. Buy what you want.
lol that didn't settle anything.
Buy techs, buy ttx1's and maybe even buy pdx-2000s if you really want to turtablist it up, but the ttx1's are good for that too. the main issue is: its a toss up between a tech-12 and ttx1 for a mixing TT. Since both are good, try them both out for a little while.
