saying that a tune can be made in "an hour", or in "a few mouse-clicks" is stupid. sorry, but you won't understand until you spend a few months learning something about producing. try to do a cheesy tune in an hour in fruityloops, it's not as simple as you might think. Even the lamest formulatic hits don't get made in an hour (unless you have some great material and presets). Of course, there are people that are already used to making good tunes, or people with natural talent that can make a good tune pretty fast (like, i remember Ferry saying he made Punk in 4 hours, MIKE made Universal Nation in one afternoon). But this is not reachable by anyone, just by musical talents.

And I know this is a bit off-subject.. but couldn't resist. And anyone who says trance is made in a few mouse-clicks has no clue of what they're talking about. Damn eJay and all this "make a fast hit" lame wannabe music producing software that put this ideas into people's heads.

Simple, tell them to get back into the closet, you don't like speaking to gays.

Why not? I made many good songs in less than an hour with Dance eJay

I was going to put this in chillout but im interested in what listeners of other electronic genres think of trance and the trance scene in general...

It's all about respect, which (obviously) a lot of people don't have.

I read an Interview with Ferry Corsten (sorry dont have the link) a while ago...and he was talking about his new and past productions...he said he made "punk" in less than an hour..which is believeable because it is a pretty basic track even thou it pounds

Punk is pathetic. im not surprised it only took him an hour. having said that, mrwhathisface's comments apply very nicely to a certain group of ppl in the midwest US who call themselves 'ravers' and use badly made electronic music as an excuse to roll on Ex and socialize. however mrwhatsisface didnt realize that he was putting the wrong ppl in their place, seeing as most of us on this board are educated, intelligent connoisseurs of trance and electronica who listen to nothing but the best and most finely tuned productions, spun by the worlds finest djs. i too wish for the fake raver bullshit to die out around here (kentucky, midwest US) because it's giving all of electronica a bad name, and causing local authorities not to sanction events which involve trance because they fear (and rightfully so) that drugs will be used extensively. i think this explains mrwhathisface's unreasonable hatred towards trance. and if not, then he can suck it.

punk is pathetic? have u ever heard it played live? it makes the crowd go crazy. anyway, ferry makin punk in one hour or even 4 is amazing, i love ferry

Posted by mcleod on Jun-25-2003 06:55:

very nicely put. i couldn't agree more, most people that are unedacted with the electronic music industry seem to associate drugs with every type of electronic music, which is quite unfair in my opinion because im sure there are plenty more drug users say in a rap concert or even a rock concert.

Slsk is a good program for everything except Trance. It makes me sad. Not nearly as sad as the forums though. Those are abysmal.

People who say that "All trance sounds the same" and "It's so easy to make" really have no clue what they are talking about, and have probably only heard cheese tracks like Sandstorm and Castles In the Sky, which aren't very good examples of the genre. And are cheese.

though i know a little off topic WTF IS UP WITH PEOPLE BASHING KANDIE KIDS god dammit i meen please let me know i myself am a kandie kid and so is everyone i know and i think that we are the nicest people you would ever meet. And we dont pop pills left and right like everyone thinks we do..my whole group of friend dont do drugs. Not saying that we havnt before but we dont abuse X and anything else. Its just that drugs really fuct up my life so i stoped and i only hang out with sober people. But back on subject why do people hate us so much??

And wtf is up with people trashing trance all the fukking time??? Its beautiful music. And i think that its take lotsof skill and talent to preduce a really compelling trance song such as For An Angel...Leithel Industry...Sounds Of Melody...Take Me Away...all songs that i could listen over and over and over again and never get tired of hearing it. That is a good song not like the top 40's hits which the song is played for 15 minutes and people hate it. That shows how much of a good tune it was. Not bashing that style of music what so ever but a good song should be about beauty and how the song can make you feel. To me and many others music controles everything...music controles feelings it can make you happy and feel good or it can make you think or make you sad. it all depends on how well you enjoy the music and how well made the song is. Pop and rap music dosnt make me feel good because its not about the content most of it is about music. To MOST of them its about money. They dont write they're own songs most of the time so its never really thought out and the song has no soul or feeling. and im gonna shut up now just my 2 cents though

damn right

people always slag off trance calling it boring and repetitive but when asked what music they listen to, they reply hiphop or rock. admittedly not all music in these genres is repetitive but to my ear, most of it is, if not more repetitive than trance. trance has got more variety, not only in the sound but also in the actual layering of the sound - to me thats quality music, not repetitive and most certainly not boring

Posted by DJ Fien on Jun-26-2003 21:55:

I think that people need to quit slagging other genres of music simply because 99% of the time, the music they've heard from other genres is cheese. Hiphop has cheese, rock has cheese, jazz has cheese, etc.

If you delve into the better music of those genres (Radiohead for rock, Bela Fleck & The Flecktones for jazz/jam, Jurassic 5 for hiphop, etc) you'll find that they all have unique elements that are quite good and they're all for the music; not cash.
