its good you can go that long....i remember id get exhausted after like 5 songs when i was learning. glad to see things are looking up
yeah, i get exhausted after like 5 songs, that's usually as long as i mix for. which is shitty, because i am not developing any set building abilities whatsoever.
it's just hard to find the time with a full time job, a girlfriend, and a full life.
when i started i could only beatmatch for about 10 sec too but several years later i can get them on pretty quickly and hold them for a couple minutes. i prefer to use the pitch slider to speed up and slow the record for fine adjustments, b/c i dont like pushing or slowing the vinyl by hand. i am not that good at it and if you mess up the smallest bit pushing or slowing, it can get really off. good luck and keep practicing.
the best way to get better is to record yourself. plain and simple.
and of course time and patience but the recording is a must.
Hey IKKI,
I think most of the points you need to look out for have already been covered.
Just would like to make a couple of points.
I think what Dj Pulse was tryin to say that you should release your tracks on the bar.It definately sounds better and is a tad easier to mix if you release your track at the start of a 32beat set.
As far as listening to both channels in the headphones I am dead against it.
Always listen to the track you're bringin in in your headphones.
This way when you have to bend it is never a luck thing.
I had a friend who learnt on a gemini mixer which has the split cue function. For two years I told him to give up the habit.Nowadays all the clubs are switchin to DJM 500 mixers which dont have a split cue[cue-program]function and he's finding it really tough to adapt.
So dont make yourself dependent to a particular type of mixer.
Also cue program if ok if you have to mix club, house or trance track which have long beat intros. If you have to mix any other genre of music say hip hop or pop where the vocals start immediately then you will hear two set sof tunes and vocals in your head phones and find it very confusin.
Since you are just starting out try not using the split cue as it will make you a more versatile dj imo.
If you need clearing up on any point please lemme know cause I've tried to keep it short.
Keep at it.
First of all Thank you guys (again) .
I used to touch the vinyls to get them beatmatch but I'm not doing it anymore I just try to beatmatch by using the pitch . I also started to listen to the song I'm bringing in on my headphones.
But I cannot keep the beatmatch for more than 10 secs, why is that ? what am I doing wrong , I guess they are not perfectly beatmatch, the other thing is that sometimes my mixes sound like a machine gun parrrparraapparrrapparrrrappaarrr is it a good sign or a bad one ? I might be wrong but I think that I'm really close to get the two song beatmatch (perfectly) when that happens , But I need to know what really is !

I'm starting to get better with my beatmatching, so I was sondering if someone could explain this whole 32s thing. In some tunes, as I beatcount, I hear cymbals or similar at 32 beats. How do I beatmatch using 32s?
i think of it this way...
4 beats are like sentences
16 beats are like paragraphs
32 beats are like chapters
so a song can be thought of as a book
i dont count but i know theres usually a pretty big change every 16 beats and when im mixing i like to listen for the cymbol or whatever that you hear every 32 beats or something. so yeah if i push off another record at 16th beat it sounds ok but i know i cant go wrong with the 32nd beat becuase thats when i get the big structures to follow together within two songs.
sometimes it sounds good with 16 beats..just experiment. you will know when you have two songs and one naturally ends pefectly inline with another one picks up without having to do much eqing.
i love it when i can get two songs to match perfectly like that. alot of times though you dont have time. i think as long as you stick with the 16 you can pull it off.
like i said..i dont count but... is this what youre talking about?
