I agree that Tiesto has done some quite good remixes. The ones that come to mind for me are:
Delerium - silence (Tiestos ISOS mix)
Although I feel it is not as good as fades sanctuary mix
Jan Johnston - Flesh (tiesto mix)
Yahel - Going up (magikal remake)
Yahel - Open your mind (Magikal remake)
Balearic Bill - Destination sunshine (Tiesto power mix)

Although he has also done several that have not been nearly as good as the originals. For instance:
Yahel and Eyal Barkan - Voyage (Magikal remake)
Johan Gielen - Velvet Moods (Tiestos ISOS remix)
Dumonde - Never look back (tiesto mix)

Who are we to judge who does a better job at DJ'ing when not all of us are professional DJ's. For all I know you are all 15 year olds sitting in moms basement with your walmart brand headphones

Right on! Armin's beatmatching might be better, but that's just it. Tiesto is by far the best artist of the bunch, at least that's my appreciation .

this was a good debate Az and I had about Tiesto a couple of days ago:

I like Tiesto because he is genuinely into the music and feels the emotions. I'm not saying AvB and PvD or whoever don't, Tiesto just has this thing about him that even though he isn't the greatest mixer, he can still rock a party and blow you away.

Wouldn't this be true for all DJs?

Tiesto may not be the single best producer and/or DJ but the fact that he is very talented at both makes him one of my fav DJ/producer

All the Kamaya Painters stuff with Benno De Goeij
All the Allure and Hammock Brothers stuff with Cor Fijnemen
All the Gouryella stuff with Ferry Corsten
Major League - Wonder (with Armin)
Vimana - we came & dreamtime (with Ferry Corsten)
Alibi - Eternity (with Armin)
Control freaks - subspace interference (with Benno De Goeij and Piet Bervoets)
Tiesto - Suburban Train (With Kid vicious)

Some of the tracks hes done on his own are good, but in my opinion none of them are really exceptional. for example:
Flight 643
Sparkles (It was only the Transa mix that was really amazing)
Theme from norefjell
Lethal Industry
Nyana

As for DJing I would say that hes not technincly exceptional. He can really build a set however. For example the Magik and In search of Sunrise series. Although the order on Nyana is in my opinion kind of sub par.

Yeah I agree with you man. Most of his best productions are with other people. I used to think he was god, and now that my tastes have broadened I really don't. I'm still glad that I've been able to see him live several times though. He does know how to build the crowd into a frenzy. I also agree he is best @ remixing stuff.

p.s.

Hammock Bros. - "Blaze of Night" was composed by T. Verwest and R. Kramer (not sure who that is). I'm just reading what it says on the vinyl...

"Magik Journey" was T. Verwest and Geert Huinink (who is freaking brilliant btw).

"Sparkles" was also with Cor Fijneman.

His best solo productions IMO are Theme from Norefjell, and Traffic.
Traffic "borrows" elements from another song, but I still freaking love it.

To the orig. poster: Yeah I like other stuff too! Anyone who limits themselves to one genre (or subgenre) of music is truly missing out!

I dont know about you guys, but Johan Gielen always brings a bit of a tear to my eye..

u ever been to both dj's performing live? cuz then you'd definetely say that Tiesto ownz Armin. Tiesto has much more variety in his sets, where as Armin doesn't experiment, it's just always the same style. I've been to several parties in holland, for instance Innercity twice, Trance Energy 3 times, Shockers, Mysteryland, Impulz Outdoor twice (i can go on ), and ofcourse to Tiesto In Concert.
the way Tiesto plays with his crowd can never be done by Armin. when Tiesto plays i let all my emotions go, i even cried at TiC! like many others.
Armin can never give me that feeling Tiesto gives...

Posted by TranceGiant on Jul-16-2003 10:17:

People, just go to see him live and then judge ffs. What he did @ LFA this Friday was out of this world. So much energy, emotion, flow and interaction, the very fact that he eventually dropped a classic like "street spirit" which had thousands of people go absolutely mental...it just cannot be conveyed through shitty broadcasts.

Posted by TranceGiant on Jul-16-2003 10:23:

as for the topic itself: I actually came to "normal" trance after listening to psy. Which is kinda weird considering that your average psy tune is much more complex than uplifting tracks, yet I got sick of it pretty quickly..... I just listen to Skazi and Infected Mushroom form time to time (oh and the divine Shpongle of course)

Posted by dj adagnitio on Jul-16-2003 11:48:

I think that one of the big reasons Tiesto is so good at getting a crowd going is not by any work of his own. People are usually in a really good mood just on the basis that their seeing Tiesto, and therefor are a much easier crowd to work.

I'm so jealous at you, bet I would have cried at Tic as well.. Can't get enough off Tiesto´s concerts recordings. My highest wish right now is to se Tiesto and Paul van Dyk live in concert..

Please go away everyone thats mentioned ISOS and other comps. this is about now, not then. And also a whole 1 person mentioned (all of) Nyana which is the only one done recently

lol wtf? whatever matey. one day u shall see the light to i hope. In the meantime can i interest u in an extra tounge so that u can speak more easily out of ur ass? Oh and TiC was just a glorified Solo set with a few Live PA's thrown in for good measure. I have been to Armin solos and also Tiesto solos. The good thing about these solo sets is that DJ's always dig deep into the crate and bring back some amazing classics as well as playing what they normally would. The difference between a Tiesto and an Armin solo tho, is that Armin starts off mixing beautifully like he always does, and then 8 long hours later, his mixing is still exactly the same as when he started. Tiesto however, starts of with average mixing, and after the first couple of hours begins to slip, and by the end his mixing is just pure gash. But whatever, each to there own.

Nail on the head as far as productions are concerened

And as for the tools that reply saying just, "ISOS" and "Magik" (losers) Can i just point out that the more recent ones, ie. ISOS 3 and also Nyana are both mixed fucking terribly.

Posted by RaVeRSurGe on Jul-16-2003 13:26:

HappyHappy ^_^

tiesto screwed up at the last july 4th party.... the mixin was pretty bad and markus schulz made him look even worse as schulz owned the dekz... but in my opinion tiesto is still #1 because of his playlist... man the tunes that he chooses are just so good!!! i like sprinkles of hard trance throughout my music.. and tiesto delivers for me ^_^

why must you throw more water to the mill? why can't you just leave it? this is a pointless argument that won't end! people have different opinions and they should be respected, no matter how stupid they are in your opinion as long as their opinions are not hurting anyone.

+ lots of bla bla bla of the same matter!

Posted by AndskiSpeed on Jul-16-2003 15:23:

Lol, sorry. Its just that saying he's good because he plays some good tunes is a bit.. silly heh

I'm now leaving it

No more arguing from me unless someone makes a very stupid comment
