Well if TWILO still existed it would definitly be #1 --because of a few reasons:it was larger than roxy(more rooms), the phazon sound system is the shit, and it brought the biggest dj's such as residents like PVD(bi-monthly) and Sasha and Digweed.

BUT...since it got closed down for some bullshit(EXIT and Soundfactory have much worse drug problems-but they are still open ) ARC or ROXY would have to be the top 2, only because they got the best sound system in the US(PHAZON). Plus isnt it wierd knowing that @ROXY you are dancing on a skating rink(if anyone didnt know that already)!!!

As for Glow.... Bad sound, bad lighting, bad management, bad vibe, bad line management, terrible prices on drinks, worse vibe, Johan Gielen... I mean all of these things are just TERRIBLE... c'mon ppl. get with the fucking program! The Dj isn't everything...

so you went with Centrofly, Arc, and Avalon over Glow for those reasons???

Centro is an ok club, but I don't go to frequently so I wont comment. Arc has a great soundsystem, but its too small and they dont have a liquor license and I don't really feel like buying water and lollipops.

You complain about the management @ glow and the bad line system. Well, no offense but I worked at Avalon for 4 years and I will honestly say they have the worst management around starting with the Lyons brothers and working on down to Steve Adelman, Fedor, Felix, and finally Debo. Their line management is terrible as well. Oakenfold came on a thursday last year and it was raining that night. People waited in the pouring rain till 1:50 to get in to see him, some never getting in at all. I think if you go down that last most of the clubs are far worse on line management than Glow (Roxy @ PvD ring a bell).

Arc line management is fine because people dont pile in there all at once, they come in over a range of several hours. You complain about drink prices at glow, yet Roxy prices and Avalon prices are higher. The vibe is what you make of it, its a complete line of BS when you say a club has a bad vibe. You create the vibe, if you have fun, you have fun. If not don't go back. I assume you had a bad time @ Glow so your opinions are biased, but the things you bitched about all occur at the other clubs mentioned. Also, you complain about drink prices, but you never mentioned that Glow was $15 and free before 11 PM, when Arc and Avalon are more money on any given night. The soundsystem unfortunately is as good as you are going to get in a 300 year old concrete building. There just isnt room to work, unlike ARC, that had the room and the flexibility to add the phazon. They also didn't have unlimited funds to build a state of the art Avalon series sound system and custom truss lighting system like Avalon, but Avalon staff is rude and by far I would say carries the worst crowd out of any of the clubs listed.

I voted for Insomnia, because thats who has my favorite line-up of djs, with ARC being a close second. Other than that I would have to say Roxy is a terrible club with only tiesto/PvD going for it. Nation has the name and thats about it.

Actually, Im changing my vote to Exit. Its far and away the best club in the country

Vibe is not what you make of it thats a line of BS if I ever heard one... I've been to too many clubs to even begin to buy that bullshit. And comparing NYC and DC prices is also ludicrous and shows you don't understand simple economics...

As for the free before 11 thing, that is a joke... Too many ppl. get harrassed in that line. And yes Avalon has problems and closes @ 2 but it has a better venue so it wins in that department. I dislike Roxy as well, and the only they have are special events so who really cares anyways... unless you like Hip Hop...

Arc may not have a huge space, but the setup kicks so much ass that it doesn't matter...

Oh and Panorama has plenty of money they just don't feel like spending it... They wanna give you some cheap thrill of a stupid Dj booth that is tiny as HELL... You realize that Arc's space is considered a historic landmark... I wouldn't be surprised if that building is even OLDER.

The concrete can be dealt with by putting in padding, the lighting can be dealt with by PUTTING IN LIGHTS, the Bouncers don't have to be such assholes. Management doesn't have to be so freakin' lame. And you can keep going to see Johan Gielen for all I fucking care. I love trance, but the whole experience matters, and the sketchy assholes, the bad treatment are just too much.

BTW, saying I am bias is such a stupid comment as well, OBVIOUSLY I am bias. These opinions are subjective. Yes I am kidding about shooting ppl. that vote for it, thats what I do. Frankly I don't really give a fuck, keep going to GLow, and I'll keep going to better parties... LMAO!

uh oh controversy!

hmm, someone needs anger management classes. You want to debate economics fine. Unless you are paying the rent of the club, the only thing you care about is drink price and door cover, so don't come at me thinking I don't know club expenses and overhead. NYC drink prices are higher, so are Boston drink prices., simple as that.. You want to argue semantics fine with me. Glow does not own Insomnia, they only own the soundsystem and the lights, so in order to make any changes they have to work it through the actual owners of the club unlike Avalon where the owners (lyons) do what they want when they want. I dont know what you are smoking, but the Insomnia booth is much larger than the Arc booth and the Avalon booth is a piece of shit with 5 stacks of 150 degree amps on the side and a small shelf for the dj. Roxy has probably the worst booth with the tables not even suspended or buffered at all. You say "oh, just throw up padding" you want a club or a mental institution??? All this costs money and last I checked, I already stated that glow does not own insomnia. As for the rudeness of the bouncers, hang out at Roxy for 10 minutes or ask Scottt about it. He was thrown into a table at Roxy simply for trying to talk to PvD. As for Arc being a landmark, age has nothing to do with it. The Twin Towers are now a Historic landmark, are they older than The Insomnia building???? The last of your anger seems to be aimed at Johan Gielen, who is only 1 of the Glow residents, do you have a problem with all the Glow residents or just him???

As for better parties, you just contradicted yourself. You say evrything is subjective, then so is your opinion of which parties are better...

You want to get deeper into economics, thats fine with me. I will discuss costs, overhead fees, anything you want. You want to relate it to econmic costs in that region and costs for entertainment licenses in that region be my guest, but since none of those costs do you incur I really think Door cover and drink price are the only 2 you should care about unless you plan on paying Arc's rent...

forgot to mention also. You say that Panorama has tons of money, but did you know that Glow gets 0% of the bar at Glow while Avalon takes 100% of the bar and the door, which do you think makes more a night???

Posted by PVD fanatic on Jul-29-2003 21:34:

i dont understand how anyone can say Insomnia is better than Roxy...that places get so packed! The only the IMO that is better is the fact that the dj booth is right in front of ur face...if ur lucky to get taht close ...

Just like Glow is a Party that has a residency at Insomnia. It is not an actual club or building.
Nation is seperate from the Code party/promotions, they are under different management, ownership and direction.
Edge is across the street from Nation, as well as Wet which is a gay club.

Code is the name of the venue in Birmingham, UK where Godskitchen holds it's weekly party.

haha and another good point...

but to clear things up:

CODE IS THE NAME OF THE PARTY THAT NATION HOLDS...NATION IS A CLUB, IT IS NOT CALLED NATIONS, NOR BUZZ, NOR CODE. CODE IS A WEEKLY PARTY THAT NATION HOSTS. JUST LIKE INSOMNIA HOLDS GLOW EVERY SATURDAY NIGHT.

now vote people!

it used to be the Capitol Ballroom

Nation is also host to Velvet and Alchemy. We experienced a portion of Alchemy when Tiesto rocked DC on a Thursday night.

It was funny too because I bumped into a friend there who is a goth/raver, graver, or "Dark Raver" as they actually like to be called. LOL. He even knew what was up... I saw him in front of the main DJ booth when Tiesto came on.

I've had some amazing experiences and I've had some terrible experiences in just about every club in DC and Baltimore. As crazy as it sounds I have never been clubbing in NYC so I have no basis for comparison.

I was like jumped by 3 dudes inside of Buzz on one occasion for Bad Boy Bill. I was almost dosed (or something) at Edge when some jackass tried slipping some shit in my drink, but out of the corner of my eye I saw him do it so I threw it directly into the trash as I walked by about 10 of his friends who were all saying "no go, no go" under their breaths to each other. A female friend of mine WAS roofied (or something) at the old Glow @ Zei Club, and by who it was we can't prove but we have a very good idea. We had to babysit her all night because she was passing out from 3 drinks... and she was normally a heavyweight. Bullshit.

You can't let a randomly occurring bad experience take the wind out of your sails.

The amazing experiences outnumber the terrible ones by at least a 500/1 ratio

I've only been to Avalon on this list and also been to Exit (which is not on the list). I go to school in Boston, and I can attest to the great sound system and lighting effects in Avalon (I would love if they put in a mist machine), although the accoustics at times are a bit off. However, the way they handle the lines there is terrible, the security is laughable (there isn't even a metal detector there!) and they certainly know how to gouge on ticket prices. I do like it, however, because they get a good number of DJs to come out and on Fridays, they throw down a party called Avaland where all the adjacent clubs open up their doors for free traffic to any club you want to go to. With Axis right next door (another electronic venue), you might get lucky with several good DJs in one night.

Exit, I liked because it was so incredibly spacious, the sound system is... decent, nothing great, but the crowd that was there that night (Ferry/Guy Ornadel/Jason Jollins, 4/11/03) was incredible. I had great fun there, the lighting is okay, but I bet it's hard to shape such a big place down with great lighting, but the mist machine is awesome... love that feeling when you stand right into the spot where the mist lands, you can't see anything in front of you and then the strobes hit... damn...

Anyways... that's my $.2

You have made alot of good points but these two are totally wrong.

Glow probably has the nicest bouncers I have ever seen in the last 5 years going out to (tunnel, limlight, space, twilo, exit sf,arc, ext...) I remember my first time at glow last may when the craziest thing happened to me. When I walked in this bouncer shook my hand and greated me!. I was like huh? lol

And Johan rules

wow... must have been something in the water that night... you are the only one I have ever talked to that has had a good experience with the bouncers...

Redeye, after reading your last post, it was quite simply incomprehensable... I am not even going to bother arguing every stupid point, I could, but to be quite honest I don't care. You have your opinion and I have mine... But I will mention one thing.. to say that Glow's Dj booth is bigger than Arc's means that you have never been to Arc... End of Rant...

yeah i must agree with NYG...glow hires people from like, the russian mafia to work their doors. they are all so mean and rude!

my experiences with glow bouncers:

1. my friend who was 21, wasnt let it to the club because he "looked young" and they thought it was a fake ID. he had to talk to several managers and bouncers and had to end up signing his signature like how it was on the back of the ID. FINALLY they let him in

2. no one that works there even knows who the djs are! we were in line once and we heard some bouncer go "who the fuck is this dutch buuren guy anyway?" me and liz were fuming.

3. when ian arranged the tranceaddict guest list last time for armin, i went up to one bouncer who was really nice and told me to go see the guy in front of the VIP line. i went up to him and he was like "what guestlist are you on?" and i said "tranceaddict" and he was like "WHATaddict?!" all snotty and rude.

needless to say, these experiences dont make it very enjoyable when you first enter the club. i'd take the one man outside arc, with no line, good vibe, and ROOM TO DANCE over glow anyday!

omg, now that is the definition of a perfect night out - If I got to see that, I'd die a happy man

I still haven't voted.

Count me as the Undecided 1%

I haven't been to enough clubs to vote.

I think Glow is good for it's DJ's. I don't care what anyone says but Buzz used to blow my mind with it's EAW Avalon system. When they cranked up the volume (like Deep Dish usually did) you were were able to hear the Bass from a good distance up the street, even with the traffic A few of us remember our ears ringing for 3 days one time. LMAO.

I was happy enough to see PvD at the DC Armory followed by Tiesto at Glow. Heck, you start adding any of those names together like that and you know that the chances of a good time are locked.

Buzz@Nation was a VERY VERY special party... :sigh:
