Canada's natural population is in decline ie. more ppl die every year than people being born .. if we don't accept immigrants we'd have a shortage of skiller workers!

I'm of French/Belgian descent.
Born in Belgium, mother is half french half belgian, father is 3/4 belgian 1/4 dutch...
So that would make me... mainly Belgian, with a little bit of French and Dutch thrown in the mix

There's no reason why any of us with it, can't take pride in dual citizenship. Canada certainly is "one of the best countries in the world" due in part to the fact that it's so diverse, accepting of other cultures, peaceful, etc.

It just bugs me when people live in a country, exploit it, and are provided with a safe, politically stable environment such as Canada and can't even respect or celebrate it.

Posted by torontotrance on Aug-08-2003 22:56:

has his cdn flag proudly on the wall of his room!

Yes, it is a stupid thing, but there's no need for generalization. There are many of us who do not fit that description.

i see no reason for them to hold an Indian flag or a UAE flag...

see what pisses me off are people who hav ebeen born and raised here, never been to their parent's country and call themselves that country's people

I was just telling Andy about my beef with this.
Nationality and background aren't the same thing! Ugh...

Posted by torontotrance on Aug-08-2003 23:07:

i got english ancestry...but you don't see andy going around like he is british...tho i love the slang. I don't pretend to be british but I do have pride for where my ancestry was....but i'm cdn first and foremost....mother hates it when i say....i'm completely cdn...in my mind i am and always will be. I'm not american...i have not lived there...nor plan to....i have lived in canada.

me too, lol, that's the people i'm talking about 2 posts ago

for example these little italian kids who are like "i'm 100% italian bro!" to try and sound cool picking up girls when they havent even been to italy and are so out of touch with Italy's culture.

Posted by Elmo-On-XTC on Aug-08-2003 23:42:

does everyone have to pick on Italian's in here?

anyways, we're all Canadian so it would be a little boring to all put up canadian flags. Toronto's all about diversity...so we show it

Agreed! Don't take the Italian thing personally, but it's just a really common occurence. I mean, how many Canadian kids with let's say, a Norwegian background, do you see going around bragging that they're '100% Norwegian, d00d, br0'?
