yeah, you seriously need to get out of your dream-world state. just because it didnt happen to your friends and you dont see it in the news, you just cant assume, incidents like that happen on minimum bases. I'm not saying that it happens ALL the TIME. But it does happen bit more than you'd think.

Nono, I'm pretty sure they had a very rough time in Toronto customs, not the U.S. Kinda ironic, considering the rest of this thread... (bashing US customs)

It happened in DC too.

Whatever, go to a 3rd world country and get pulled aside by those ******s. Then comeback and bitch about US customs. Sometimes shit will happen, you can't help that. A lot of messed up stuff happens all over. Way to be melo-dramatic folks.

I would also like to point out that customs did not LET in a British arms dealer by mistake, it was part of an elaborate sting operation that led to their arrest in that big hotel at Newark Int'l. Get your facts straight.

For the record, I have personally dealt with Customs nonsense all over, so I am not writing out of ignorance. I think both the French and Americans whining about this topic should get a grip. Sorry to hear that the girl had to go through that. She is fine now, and I doubt they really did anything overtly terrible to her. This is a reality we have to deal with, and NO I am not saying its ok either.

yeah it is a reality we have to deal with but we shouldn't have too.
and when we are upset about something we have every right to bitch and moan about it, whehter or whining is called for or not.

it all depends on what customs person you deal with. i've had several times where i have just walked thru customs, no prob. last year i came back from a trip from greece into the philie airport and i didn't even get my bag scaned (altho all i had was a decent sized backpack which i crammed all my stuff into and i'm a fully american citizen.

its very unfortunate that this french girl had to deal with that crap. i'm sure theres more to the story, but i doubt an 18 year old french girl was here to cause any trouble. there has been a rise in anti-french sentimate ever since the whole iraq thing and it really pisses me off. damn freedom fries and freedom bread, makes me sick. but c'est la vie (i hope i spelled that right, i took spanish).
i'd happily move to france
**and yea she shoulda stayed in france over Detroit, detroit is the biggest fucking shithole of a city

LOL and how would you know? Simply because it happens to you quite frequentely you can't assume that it happens frequentely outside of your experiences. All our assumptions are based upon OUR personal experiences ... so get off your high horse already.

on a side note, US customs almost didn't allow Deep Dish fly to Toronto to record Global Underground 25 because they are Iranian born.

Posted by DR86 on Aug-14-2003 17:45:

Recently, a secret service agent was denied flight with the President becuase he is of Lebanese origin. This agent had been on many security details with the president before.

laurent garnier wasn't able to do his america tour this summer because the US embassy dicked him around and wouldn't give him a work permit in the US.

That's basically what it comes down to. I've been to Europe 7 times in the last 4 years, and 4 times since September 11th. Not once have I ever had a problem or even seen someone who had a problem. On my most recent trip back from France, I got selected for a random customs search in Washington. I had about 50 Cuban cigars in my bag. Either customs had no idea what they were looking at, or they just didn't care. They set the box aside and went through my clothes.

It's a shame that there has to be trouble for some though. That's the price we all have to pay for a group of psychos who feel the need to kill for their religion.

you should go back and re-read my earlier post. I NEVER said it ONLY happen to ME! It had happened to my family members, friends & their acquaintances AND....acquaintances' friends. I can tell you about 20+ incidents that had happen, but it wont make any difference because you believe in anything that YOU believe in and i'm fine with that. the problem i have is the intentional blindness that you've developed regarding issues like that...and your jumping the gun everytime somebody brings a story like that.

yeah the same assumptions that were made during Oklahoma bombing when arab americans were getting arrested at the airport. yeah thanks god for our assumptions upon OUR personal experiences.

naah...before i do that i'd rather have that horse kick you in the arse and put some sense into you!

why would americans hate the french? mankind evolved from the french.

WTF? Intentional blindness? Jumping the gun everytime somebody brings a story like that? The only time something like this was brought up before was when you posted with regards to deep dish's customs problems ... funny you should hold a grudge that long. Also funny you didn't post your profuse customs problems back then. And I simply said that people shouldn't generalize and what happens to a few doesn't necessarily happen to all. So unless you're a walking statistical study with a random sampling of data and you can scientifically speak about what happens in every customs area in the US, then I'll continue to disagree with you. But at any rate by all means, keep kicking "sense" into me.

why would anyone want to go to detroit? there and LA have to be the crappiest not to mention the most dangerous places to live or visit EVER in the USA. If it wasnt for New York City id say this country is mostly composed of evil politicians and the rednecks that vote for them.

<---is moving to europe in the very near future

New York City is the only good thing about the US?

The rest of the country rednecks who vote for evil politicians?

I hate to tell you this but NYC has just as many "evil politicians" as the rest of the country and just as many people who vote for them.

I would, personally, never consider NYC to be the end-all-be-all of what is good in the US.

But what do I know...I live in part of the 99.999% of the US that is located outside of NYC.

Be Cool!

Thats messed up shiz.
I have a friend who personally ships arms and ammo over the border on a regular basis and when ever anyone checks him he just puts on his American accent and they let him through with no problem. Funny as hell that a Canadian building a gun collection can pass without any problem but a European visitor get shafted and sent back. If we documented some cases and took the gov to court and got the media involved we might be able to fix this and get a million or two for damages.

Just proves how biased and stupid the Americans can be. Just because France didn't help them out with the Iraq war doesn't mean that they have to take it personally. But as usual that is the US and they're too iggnorant for their own good.

Oh the irony. This post makes me chuckle. I'm debating whether to pick it apart or not.

funny prior to 9/11 notice there were no complaints about the American borders. Blame the savages that killed innocent people in the name of Islam and took advantage of freedom and liberty in America and blame G.W. Bush if it makes you happy. Either way don't paint every American in the same light. I wasn't even born here but I will take America over any place else and that is a fact.
