I'm against the death penalty. What I don't understand is how all the social conservative pricks can be so against abortion on the basis that it's a taking of a life, but be so vehemently in support of the death penalty..... I guess when someone commits a crime they no longer consider them human anymore.

but hey, they did murder people. and it's cheaper than housing them in jail for life.

OK I'm not defending this point of view, but you say you don't understand it... so here understand it:

Those that are against abortion are against killing an innocent human begin (which they believe all babies to be). They believe it is wrong to kill a human begin that is innocent.

On the otherhand they have no problem carrying out their civil duty (and religious) in executing a man who has been found guilty of commiting a haneous crime. Those more religious of them will tell you that it is mans duty to take care of itself on earth and pass judgement, and it is God's role to judge them eternaly.

So know you understand, those against Abortion and for the Death penalty do such because thye believe an innocent human should not die, and an evil one should.

Like I said.. at least now you understand.. doesn't mean you have to agree.. I don't.

I personally do think in a way Yoepus has described, except for the religious part. In short, for me it's unfair that an innocent and yet undeveloped child be sacrificed in order to make it's mother's life more comfortable, where it is usually the mother's fault that she wasn't careful. The only exceptions I'd make would be in case of a child being defective, in which I would enfact urge an abortion, or if the mother was raped, in which case I wouldn't like to see the rapist's genes being carried on to another generation.

Now, as far as death penalty goes, it is usually reserved for the worst of crimes and such people who commit those are simply unable to function normally in a society. I'm sure it's not very pleasant for a mass murderer to be looking at the electric chair, but a simple fact is that the needs of the many must outweight the needs of the few, and therefore, if it is impossible for a person to be rehabilitated back into the society, that person should be removed from it. The only other option is a life in prison one, but that option means that healthy elements in the society will have to finance and uphold the corrupt ones. In other words, I'm not gonna pay for a mass murderer's rent. Besides, life in prison doesn't leave any options for an individual to have a healthy and normal life ever again, so as soon as someone is convicted, that person already became a useless parasite.

Very good points indeed!

As for abortion...I don't see it as a human being until it's able to live outside of the mother on it's own. Of course technology has advanced quite a bit (in terms of caring for premature babies), so that helps the anti-abortion cause. It's hard for me to simply say, "I support the right to choose until the baby is developed enough to live outside the mother's body."
That line is now blurred.
