Yum!! Turkey Jerky!! Best camping/hiking food ever!
did you buy another lot that is perhaps too big for you?
longview BeefJerky=the best
Here's my jerky story:
2 years ago, right around now (October) I decided I wanted to buy a meat smoker so I could make an infinite amount of Jerky meat (thus stopping my monthly order of 2 lbs from a supplier in Wyoming).
I did a little research and found the best meat smokers on the market (for home use) and came across Cookshack America (http://www.cookshackamerica.com). They manufacture the ~best~ smokers on the market.
The only problem is that they are ~$600 US.
So 2 years ago I decided that I'd pay for the smoker by winning the money by betting on the super bowl. I knew that it might take a few years - but I figured that it was worth it. I dropped $150 US into an account at BetOnSports (http://www.betonsports.com) and tested my luck at sports betting.
2 years and 2 super bowls later - my bookie account is at close to $700 US.
Now the only problem is that about 6 months ago I moved into an apartment building. Having a smoker on the balcony would probably result in the fire department being called (by all the smoke coming off the balcony). So I'm stuck with my float and still ordering meat from my supplier in Wyoming.
Since a Cookshack unit can do 20-30 lbs of jerky at a time buying one is the ideal option. As soon as I move out of my apartment I'll buy the smoker and it will mean copious amounts of jerky for all my TA crew. ![]()
I don't know what it is but jerky is way too good! A day without jerky is like a day without sunshine. Soon my friends, soon.
BTW another option for making jerky is a dehydrator. I found the worlds best @ Excalibur (http://www.excaliburdehydrator.com). Horizontal drying action combined with a heating element + fan = good jerky in under 4 hours. Units are about $200 US. Not as tasty as smoking (IMO) but still a good option. Im ~seriously~ considering buying one.
