-- Samples of Paul van Dyk - Reflections album!!
Pages (3): « 1 [2] 3 »
Crush is just sweet. TOOL is different, but not bad. I liked the vocals anyway. Like A Friend is... even more different. Don't know what to make of this. Sounds kinda neat though. Reflections is instantly recognizable as a PvD production and is very nice, trancey but not too upbeat. NBY is, well... NBY. Buenaventura has a cool loungey feel to it, hard to really judge the track from the sample though. Home may need some time to grow on me... sounds somewhat retro. Never Forget is another downtempo track; nothing in the 30-odd seconds really jumps out at me. Knowledge goes in a completely different direction, obviously. I don't think I'll ever like this.
That's Life... well, maybe Paul shouldn't try for a spot on American Idol just yet. The track is catchy though. Connected I've liked since I first heard it, and I still do. I see it as a modern-day Words. Spellbound is fairly trancey and seems quite nice at first listen. Finally, Kaleidoscope is along similar lines and sounds very promising.
So it seems like Reflections definitely isn't much like OTAB (which is good). It's certainly promising and I'm anxious to hear full versions of these tracks. It does seem at first glance that it will easily surpass Armin's somewhat half-assed artist album, but only time will reveal its true merit...
I think i'll have to listen to some of the tracks a couple of times before liking them (understanding them?)
Anyhow... why release this album 2 weeks earlier in the US
heh!
i will get s00000000000000000n
I want AUTUMN on vinyl

This is just *my* opinion.. take no note of it vandit whores.
Home = gash
like a friend = gash
that's life = gash
kaleidoscope = gash
knowledge = worst track on the album (sounds like a fusion between hip hop and trance. think, bunkka except.. more trancey)
spellbound is pretty bad, definetely better than most of the other vocal tunes.
reflections sounds like a piece of eurodance trash =(
buenaventura is a pretty decent track... (need to hear more of it really..)
never forget reminds me of massive attack's work.. really downtempo, sounds promising
Crush, TooL (liked the liveset rips better though, different version????) and NBY seem to be the best tracks on the entire album.
Based on these 45 second samples, definetely not the album I was expecting, pretty dissapointing overall...

*edit* I was far more impressed by armin's 76 than this album..
i'm a big fan of Crush, i think it's absolutley amazing and well constructed. However, i think a lot of the tracks fell short compared to Out There and Back (tons of inovation!). I've always bought all types of PVD's material to support him in wake of all these leechers who 0Day his albums, but i'm definently gonna second guess about Reflections.
+ no Autumn, no points
Sorry, but all the samples sound pretty monotomic to me.
I already preordered my copy lets see how the real thing sounds I mean you cant really judge the tracks from 50 seks 96 kbs samples...
knowledge will sound horrible thought

You guys are pretty harsh critics. You expect to much from PvD. He's just like any other producer. Every song he does isnt going to be badass.
All the tracks seem good from those samples. Only ones I didnt like were Knowledge and Thats Life. Its not the tracks themselves that were bad, it was the "vocals". Knowledge has a kickass beat.
Also he shoulda put Animacion or Autumn instead of Buenaventura. Buenaventura is too average, maybe a little below too.
Other than that I think I'll be buying this for sure.
Crush, Nothing But You and Connected sound like they're going to be the best tracks on this album, I wasn't expecting what I heard.
hahaha
they all sound the same...
what a boring album

Now, instead of making "OMFG I DIE!!!" comments and putting other people's opinions down why don't you be constructive for a change? It was only yesterday when you threatened to delete everyone's account on these boards who doesn't happen to agree with you. I cannot accept such attitude. Regardless of how you feel about said track I happen to think the original is 20 times better and PvD should had not touched it and whether you like it or not I am also allowed to express that opinion. Why would I make a new thread just to tell that since I could very well use a thread that already exists? Just because you post every single fact you happen to know about PvD on separate threads does not mean I have to. Your attitude worries me. |

i think everyone has had it out for knowledge since they saw the tracklist because it has those outside influences on it...i don't really like that track either, but i can honestly say that it isn't because of the people involved in it...
Judging by the short samples I like 9 out of the 13 tracks. 2 others will grow on me. Of course there is going to be a couple tracks on an album that you don't like but hey every track can't be a instant classic. I'll wait for the cd to come out then i'll rate it.
I think it sounds GREAT! but after all i'm just a little pvd whore

I'll be Honest.
I love PvD, as a DJ and love "Out There and Back" and "Global" with his hits. But, after heaving his last albums, and hearing him spinn such fantastic sets, I was actually expecting something else, maybe more from PvD. But really theres one thing we all may agree with what we can see with this samples is that, PvD is experimenting just as much as Paul Oakenfold with his Bunkka album.PvD really do alot of vocals, I wont judge on the tracks with them because they are way too short of samples. NBY I like, and theres some that sound sweet, but nothing totally brutal great like the many tracks that Out There and Back contained. Anyways, its great for PvD to experiment with music. I found this album somewhat chill, relaxed type.. maybe not something done for us trance heads.. but for electronic music enthusiasts, and this is what this CD is got. Anyways, I will buy this album, but it sucks tremendously that some tracks that I really wanted like "OPD"!!!! are not here.. im sadden by that since its PvDs album showcasing his latest work.. anyways, I know that this album wont meet my expectations that I had on it, but it will be a nice add on to my electronic music taste. Worth it if you like the sound for when "chilling" with friends or to just "play it"..
I think it's funny that us americans - the ones who are supposed to have bad taste in music - are getting the album first
