dumbest fucking fans on the planet i stand. if ever there was a blind fan who didnt know their sport, leafs fans would have to take the crown. arguing with a leafs fan about hockey is like arguing politics with a farmer. they yell and scream alot and have alot of opinions.. but they're always wrong.

Woops....that should have read "NOT washed up"...

You know what I meant damnit!

Young does not equal good...

There are quite a few veterans, I'd agree, but Toronto does have a lot of good talent on the farm team.
Problem with young talent is that it takes a few years to learn the team's system and the other players.
Problem with old guys is that they're....well....old...but experienced and I'll take that...

means fuck all

the leafs need defence not offence.

That defence has more holes than swiss cheese...my gosh...you lose wesley....svehla retires....mccabe gets injured....marchment is a dirty mofo....not the greatest defenceman....the leafs showed it last year...the defence is full of holes.

Picking up skilled blue chip veterans with low salary 1-2 year contracts is the best route right now, like Colorado did, and Detroit does consistently.

If you want the cup, this is the year, since next year will most likely be a lockout.

There isn't shit in the free agent pool for defensemen. The leafs aer constantly competitive, and are in a weak conference, so when the weaker teams start to drop and sell off some good talent cheap, look for teams to fill the gaps that way.

there may not be many defense left now. but there were and they should have gone after them

Leetch? Roy? Mario Lemieux? Shanahan? Modano? MacInnis?

Need I say more?

Hey I know!
Let's a have a real young team and rank right up there with the Florida Panthers or not wait.....the Columbus Blue Jackets...

leetch and roy's careers are now over.....

Posted by crazedcanuck on Sep-11-2003 05:16:

His examples were bad, but his point no less valid.

What model would you rather follow, the Detroit one or the New York Islanders one?

Thanks Sherlock...

Leetch is still active (until he just hurt himself in practice) and Roy just retired...

Hey here's a couple...NICKLAS LIDSTROM...CHRIS CHELIOS?
Here's a fossil on skates...Igor Larionov!

Old and busted or what? They'll be at the top of my pool...

He makes a good point there. Detroit has used this strategy to win more than a handful of cups, and we'd be winning cups too, if we had to money to fork out.

But my question is this? Why can't we afford the best players, when the most expensive game to see on average is a Toronto home game?
And no excuses about the dollar and crap because montreal and vancover are way down on the list.

Age old question my man...

It's not like Toronto doesn't have the money...they are one of the most successful Hockey franchises out there...

Thumbs up Leafs sign Jamie Pushor from the Penguins

quote:

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Thursday that the team has added defenceman Jamie Pushor to their Kitchener training camp roster on a pro try-out agreement.

Pushor played 76 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season, recording four points with three goals and one assist.

The native of Lethbridge, Alberta has played a total of 503 career NHL games with Detroit, Anaheim, Dallas, Columbus and Pittsburgh, posting totals of 57 points on 13 goals and 44 assists with 646 minutes in penalties.

Pushor, 30, enters his eleventh professional season in 2003-04 and was a member of Detroit's 1997 Stanley Cup championship team

Good? Bad?

i don't think you can compare the leafs and colorado/detroit in this regard. the leafs are relying heavily on these old geezers while not breeding young players to replace them after their 1-2 year contracts are up. detroit and colorado have trained players like hejduk, tanguay, drury (he's gone), datsyuk, zetterberg, fischer (ok... he's no superstar...) detroit and colorado have excellent scouts and farm teams... toronto has nothing. the best homegrown player we have right now is nik antropov... most of the guys on st. john's are there for life...

Bah...

Oh well...at least he's not some kid without experience...

I'll leave it up to the regular season to decide...

I'd say that's mostly because of the old guys they keep hiring...

The Leafs do have young talent, they just don't get the ice time...

Indeed, It's sad but true, I'm not saying we don't sign good players. I'm saying that we don't buy the BEST players and why do they always have one big weak denfesive line, every year there's one.

Thats a great point. Everyone accuses detroit and colorado of buying teams but any hockey analyst will tell you they also have some of the best drafting/development programs in the league.

I'm not saying anything like that here.....

But what I am saying is that we should begin to invest in more good long term players like Domi, and Sundin. Good stonrg players.

And on another note. Why did we sign Gilmore? Pretty much so he could retire a leaf. A nice touch to the season I suppose.
