an elephant rifle is something that has enough charge packed behind the round to kill an elephant and cape buffalo

th+e .45 cal was designed by the US military to knock a fullgrown man 6 feet backwards. with no continued velocity.
the self-defense rounds are for people breaking into my house, its kind of a mansion in the woods, and we are vulnerable where we are, our neighbors were robbed for 10 grand month or so ago. ive had the guns for years, and we are very safe about guns, take courses, read books. I have target rounds for the pistol also, as well as the elephant rifle for target
The hollowpoint balloons inside of the body and even with a solid 45 cal round its practically guaranteed death. It isnt a pretty thing, but neither is getting killed in your house. Basically, if you dont agree with guns, im sorry, but i do, and any further discussion into the morality/ethics of guns should be in the political forum, lets not ruin another thread like the wanks in the 9/11 thread

THE CHARGE BEHIND THE ROUND DOESNT MEAN SHIT! WTF U GUNA DO? shock it to death? that aint guna happen!!!! unless u have a cannon. U can put an elaphant down with a .22 if u know how and were to shoot. DOESNT THAT MAKE IT AN ELEPHANT GUN????!!! NOO of course not. A .37 cal is a .37 cal, thats all. |

Originally posted by Mikado It means the as the bullet passes thru the target its outer jacket peels back and creates a mushroom effect on the tip that then wiggles around thu targed intead of going thru. THis also makes sends a bit more energy into the target. Basicaly u dun need em for target practice. I dont have any spent bullets that have mushroomed to take pics of to show u..

Originally posted by occrider Yea I know how hollow points work, they are essentially designed for greater lethality. My point is, is that isn't hollow point rounds and self-defense an oxymoron? Why buy them to begin with? Oh yea, and aren't they outlawed?

Originally posted by Orbax actually it isnt...you can buy rounds that are unable to penetrate elephant hide that are .375 and that shock comment...the 50 cal BMG round never even touches a person. the air compressed around the tip rips the person in half before the bullet ever touches, so yeah, that might happen too`
my friend is in the marines, not me. I took his word for it because it was attached to a story about how its illegal to use .50 cal BMGs on humans as it was banned by UN but* they said you could lay down "cover fire" with them hehe...ahh good times
im just saying that the calibre of bullet is a mere measurement of the bullet not the charge. now if the two are linked, that would be something, but there isnt really an argument on how what is being measured when you say .45 cal. its the bullet, not the powder.
and I really dont care after all is said and done, i just wanna see what guns people have, cuz i think theyre cool..
how tight is this. my uncle has a steyr aug! just like CS its awesome
That's correct...it's all about power. You can use the same shell/bullet, change the power and the characteristics change quite a bit.
Ex: We use 150 grain on smaller big game (deer, antelope), while increasing the power to 180 grain for elk. Meanwhile if you use 180-200 grain power on an antelope you'd leave an exit wound you could throw a cat through.
(results may vary -- bullet type: soft point boat tail)
I dont know why but i love Deringers, these little 1 - 4 shot pistols are sooo handy. To bad i cant use em in Canada.

Once made a potato gun... used it for launching potatoes at very high velocities
Other than that, I don't have a reason to own a gun. There are no bears or evil demons or innocent animals or bystanders I want to slaughter, but more power to those who do

Originally posted by occrider I saw the history channel special on that gun. It looks pretty damned rediculous. You can laser range find the distance to your target and then set the distance at which you want your shells to explode.
