Electronic music in general, man, that depends on how you define electronic music. A lot of 80's pop music had strong synth overtones, but I suppose the easiest line was in 1996 when I got into industrial ala KMFDM, Skinny Puppy, and so on.
First Trance?
Quite a bit later, I want to say 1999 when I heard Apollo 440's Can't Stop the Rock (Gigolo Can't Stop the Jocks Remix) and picked up Xpander, but still didn't get into the genre very heavily until I picked up Chicane's Behind the Sun in 2001 and started digging around for anyone associated with Chicane, thus Tomski, Thrillseekers, which led to the Xtravaganza catalogue, and Trance in general.
Started listening to house in about 88/89. Listened to a lot of the bleep techno stuff like Tricky Disco, LFO etc... In 91-92 I Got into Jungle (old Suburban Base and Boogie Beat records to name a few) and a little bit of Rotterdam-style hardcore and eventually found trance around 94 or so (The early Platipus stuff blew me away).
platipus started an entier diffrent string of trance music.........
i think they brought maturity to the bleeps & bloops
Lets see as a youngen electronic was hard to come by around the way i grew up. So lets just say aroun 97/98 with faithless
I think it was 1998 can't remenber the song that I was into in that time lol
Since December of 2001, at which time I was 18. While I was home for christmas break, I randomly found and listened to an MP3 on my computer of Paul van Dyk's essential mix at the Gallery Turnmills (04.04.1999). From then on out, I was hooked to electronicabut mostly trance.
Roughly started in 10th grade or so of high school, so 1994 or 1995...wasn't really hardcore into like I am now...but was in a period where I loved everything from EDM, to hiphop, to alternative, to R&B, to pop, to others...I was just selective...I would say I started slowly getting into it more in 1997 or so when I my brother-in-law started giving me CDs with DJ Tiesto's stuff that his brother was sending to him from Amsterdam....then it slowly progressed until I moved to San Francisco in late 1999, and a lot of the first friends I made out here were all heavily into EDM and just start piling all this great stuff on me to listen to....been huge into it since.
Still like a good bit of mainstream music (while more selective than ever), but not nearly as hardcore into it as I am EDM.

I keep forgetting that im from ny sometimes & that in other areas the music was harder to come across. the person who introduced me was lenny dee
before he became Mr. Industrial Strength Records he was the dj of the roller place when i was a kid (8 yrs the 80's)...... every saturday i was there skating away to brand new music....... him & frankie bones used to produce freestyle n house tracks then crossed over to a more techno hardcore sound then the parties in ditches 7 abandon warehouses & storm raves hit & techno thursdays on college radio B91 & it was history from there.
I always wanted to grow up in europe because its so comercialised but now listening to my self think i would never change the experiences my life gave me for anything.
