BTW - Ill give you an example of what I mean
Paul van Dyk ft. Vega 4 - Time Of Our Lives (Club Mix) from PVDs Energy 03 Set. This song has a kickass beat and could've potentially been awesome. But wait, lets add some fucking country vocals to this song. The vocals totally turn a good song into an abhorration.
If you listen to 'cheese' you will get 'cheesy' and 'sucky' vocals. However, if you listen to good trance, even if it has vocals it will be good. For example... Cass & Slide - Perception, Delerium - Innocente (Deep Dish or Tiesto Remix), Delerium - Silence (Tiesto), BT - Dreaming, BT - Mercury And Solace, Rank 1 - Such is Life (Marco V Remix), Iio - Rapture (Deep Dish Remix), Iio - At The End (Ultrasun Remix) and etc. There are so many tracks. Some of the newer one's D:fuse - Everything With You (Club Mix), Sultan - Night Visions (Vocal), Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes, The Roc Project - Never (Tiesto Remix), and Armin Van Buuren - Wait For You (Song for The Ocean). So if you listen to good producers/djs, even if their work has vocals.. its still good. But I do agree, fuck this Ian Van Dahl, Lasgo, and Dj Sammy bullshit.

| Originally posted by montie the vocals in these tracks hurt them i feel. if they were choped up and layered ontop (so that you didnt know what they were saying then i think that would make htem alot better. i love perception, but when i hear the vocal mix of it i cringe. such a great song. I do like the vocals in innocente and silence. they do border on the cheese factor, but i don't mind them as much. the lyrics aren't too bad. and sarah mcClaughlan has a very pretty voice. and so does leigh nash. same with stephanie vazina. i love night visions (especially the dub ).thats why i like it when the vocals are choped up. so you hear the voice, but not the cheesy lyrics. or when they are singing in some beautiful language i don't know. |
hmmm... love/hate for me... some are nice some just get plain annoying after a while. You must agree that most of these lyrics are pretty senseless and primitive. I am sure they probably mean a great deal for 14 y.o. and up candy-kids who probably choose some of those 'hookup' songs and call them 'our song', provided they see each other again, past the "rave" where they heard it. To me - they are fuel for some supressed anger issues, sort of like a deep and dark desire for some violence which would include infliction of terrible pain upon the singer and whoever wrote the lyrics.
For example - I bought a 4 String CD - turned out to be bunch of great trance tracks with some shitty ass vocals on top! What a jip! and that's every single song! "Diving" - was my favorite song until I heard the "original" version! The rest of the songs just drove me insane! When I hear the following rhymes:
"Eyes - Surprise"
"Eyes - realize"
"And fly away"
"Walk with me forever"
I just want to beat the living shit out of whoever came up with the concept. I just can't wait for the days when music will be released on DVD, this way you could choose "instrumental" version without all the vocal shit...
On the other hand, some vocals can do magick to otherwise crappy track...
For example, "Ratty - Here I Am" just gives me goosebumps when I hear it... Some other expamples of great vocals (warning, some cheese can be found):
1. Blackeight - The Silence
2. Circ - destroy she said
3. Second Sun - Crush
4. Aquanuts - Deep Blue Sea
5. Gouryella - Tenshi
6. AvB - Touch Me (Part II)
7. AvB - Communication (Vocal Edit)
8. Trouser Enthusiasts - Sweet Release
9. Tiesto - In my memory
10. Paul Van Dyk - Tell me why
there are many more... I guess it all comes down to voice, lyrics, and delivery... Some can make the track some can break it.
l8r.
yeah.
i guess i do like the lyrics in some songs. normally when they are incoherent or just random stuff or humerous. normally i like them when they just like a couple of phrases looped or played at different times.
i like the monologue in "you are sleeping"
songs i like the lyrics in
"love in traffic" - satoshi tomeii
"come back to me" (Hawke remix) - lovesky
"jody" (Montreal man remix) - c12 featuring jole
"substance" - echomen
"true (the ****** is you)" - morel
"a million dreams" - slacker
"the dive" - momu
"lesser man" - graffik
"open your eyes" - nalin and kane
"i feel stereo" - i feel stereo
"bird of prey" - fatboyslim
"at the river" - groove armada
well not all of those are really trance.
but yeah
if you dont like vocals listen to psy trance and shut the fuck up
quality is quality, t3h sux is t3h sux
I love all trance, some vocal songs good others bad, but i just ignore the low quality tracks i dont like i dont rub it in everyones face, there are plenty of songs that have no lyrics, jesus there are like 300 releases a week, of the trance genres epic trance is like the only one wiht heavy concentration of vocals,
Tech, hard, hardstyle, cyber, acid, psy, goa, prog, all dont focus on vocals, so get off your lazy ass find some trance with out vocals and quit bitching
Yeah... thats why vocals is the first thing human brain can perceive musicaly since we hear them all our life since born.
Not all people has the feeling for good 'sounds' and vocals are all that matters to them, just cuz they arent exposed to sounds like we eletronic music fans are...
As trance got popular, it reached for all that people not used to eletronic sound that like vocals best, and now everything circulates around them...
And from among these people, there come a lot of artists nowdays that just got that feeling for vocals, not for sounds, that makes songs where the vocal is everything that counts, with poor or very formulaic sounds so its accepted easily for the commom masses and they get the money...
But artists that know the valor of a cool vocal and/or a good sound still makes very good stuff, like the mentioned ones above.
For me sung vocals in an uplifting trance track must be very awesome to enjoy it , ( Delerium - Silence, Andain - Beautiful things ) .
I generally feel that the overuse of sung vocals in trance in these days ( not to forget the overuse of cheesy supersaws, but that's not the point of this thread )ruins a little bit of trance image and scene itself because on many dj sets you'll find these uplifting pop trance tracks ...
I also think that with the extensive use of sung vocals the importance of an original lead sound has been reduced massively because the vocals are "on top" of the song.
I don't think producers and labels will begin to produce more instrumental tracks because you can reach more people to buy your cds with vocals...
Trancevision
trance with vocal is just euro pop (even tiesto thinks so)
ok, i'm really drunk and really bored
here's my supposed to be comical but not and stupid because its unoriginal contribution for the nite
i'm out.........
love voclas like:
deepest blue - deepest blue
conjure one - centre of the sun
delerium - after all
g&d vocal remixes
