Well, they are the most attractive headphones on the market!

More importantly - they provide maximum durability. But even if something does happen to break on them, every single piece is replaceable... even the cord!

Incredible comfort and also terrific for one ear use, which is what most DJ's look for.

The sound quality is excellent!

The average human ear can only discern frequencies ranging between 20 and 20,000 Hz. The frequency response of these is 5 - 30,000 hz which rivals pretty much all of the other headphones including those high dollar Sennheisers.

http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...021#post1851021

They may not be as loud as the Sennheisers, but their hermetically sealed design prevents you from catching any background noise. You don't really need to hear them from 20 feet away do you? Headphones are meant to be worn on your head. Even when worn on only one ear they are more than loud enough.

Another part that I like about the HDJ-1000 is that they are extremely comfortable. I have been doing homework and had them on my head for 4 hours and the only thing that happens is your ears are a little red and you have missed 4 phone calls cuz you cant hear anything.

Senns hd25's or pioneer hdj1000's

simple

Posted by Gluegun on Oct-15-2003 00:08:

First of all, printed frequency response is meaningless. 5 - 30000 hz doesnt mean anything if they don't provide reams of other data with that number.

Second, a DJ needs ISOLATION. this means CLOSED, SEALED headphones. No of the "home/audiophile" akg's (K401, K501), none of Sennheiser's flagships, HD580, HD600, nothing like that. Third, DJ's need something that's easy to drive. No DJ I know of wants to bring a headphone amp with them to every show...

So, what does that leave in the, "Sorta Studio-type sounding" domain?

Sony MDR-V6 (THE EXACT SAME HEADPHONE as the MDR-7506)
Sennheiser HD280 Pro
AKG K271 Studio
Sennheiser HD25

And, as far as I know... *just* those.

If you want more DJ-esque sounding ones (exaggerated bass, the DJ look..), check headphones from Pioneer and Technics.

Why, just because they are cheap and look cool they are worth a look??

I am afraid I disagree with you Joe on Seinheisers. I have the hd25sp's and they are wank, they distort after 2/3 volume and when u play music loud they prove that they have fukall proofing as u cannot hear wtf is being played thru the fones. I need new headfones but people say different things about different fones and I have no idea wot to purchase

I've never used the HD25sp's... i don't see many people using them as they are only slightly cheaper than the plain hd25's and are apparently wank compared? I know judge jules has been using the sp's for some time playing out.. but that doesn't really mean mcuh

HD-25 (no sp)

= 1337.

HD-25SP

= Wank

it would seem

The shop i bought em from only had the sp's, but looking at pictures of both they like like they're the same!

Exactly the same cups so I cannot see them being much better. I doubt they use different magnets/components in each model due to the expense.

Cups look different to me.

I've got the HD-25's at home.... and use the SP's all the time at my local record store.

I'm pretty sure they cups look different.. they certainly sound a lot different.

HD-25's are used by countless DJs

including:
Matt Hardwick

Eddie Halliwell

They are used by television sports commentators (I've seen them used for Sky Sports Rugby Super Leauge & also some american baseball commentators on Channel 5).

Used by pro wrestling commentators ... the wwe or whatever has been using them for it's commentators for about 5 years. Don't ask me how I know this

I saw them being used by the sound guy on a recent episode of 'Changing Room's'.... again, dont ask me how I found this out

I also saw them being used by some airline pilots the other night on TV.

I like my Sony Eggo's. They aren't for DJ use, but they are some of the best portable cans around

basically, yes.

think about it, if these turn out to be decent quality,
i wouldn't mind "investing" in a pair to abuse. you know,
instead of daily abusing your HD25s/HDJ1000s/MDRV700DJs,
you can brutalize these, ergo, extending the life of your
high quality phones...

and investing in super "1337" HD25s is really pointless
for bedroom DJs on a budget, if you ask me.

First off. those type of big arsed dj type headphones NEVER last. They have huge bands of brittle plastic that just snap.

The HD25's will last for years and years (as long as you dont keep standing on them or something). My local record store has had the SP's attached on their decks for years, and aside from a few of the pads looking a little tatty, they are in very good condtion. The one deck that doesnt has some huge 'dj style' pair of cans, that are all broken and have been taped back together.

I could drop my hd25s on the floor 100 times and they wouldn't take any damage.... because they are so light and also very flexible.

You can go ahead and buy them yeh... and maybe they are only a 1/5 of the price, but you'll never be able to use them in a club or anywhere with loud music, and they will probably break after a few months (as with the Sonys).

As with most things its certainly worth investing in something thats going to last

lol, once again, you missed my point. im 100% sure these are
nowhere near as good as any of those phones. but when you're
screwing around at a friends house, or just basically screwing
around, lending phones to other people n shit, id feel much more
comfortable abusing on cheap phones and having my hiqualities
locked away safely somewhere. thats why i asked about these.

if they sound decent, at 25 bucks, theyre pretty damn cheap,
and seriously, i dont see why ANY headphones break if you take
good care of them. i have Sony MDR-W08s, which are cheap little
plastic toy headphones that came with a discman, for like 5 years,
and theyre working just like they day they came in (not that theyre
good, but theyre just as they were when new). should you buy these
Behringher cans, and your a cautious person, i think theyd be
great for taking that daily abuse.

and im no phone expert, but;
and i really dont see why people keep ragging on MDRV700s. i dont
own a pair myself, but a close friend who is a bass player does,
and has had them for quite a few years, and trust me, he puts
thse things THROUGH HELL. every time he lends them to me, i still
hear some damn fine sound, and not cracked anywhere.

no flames please, just having a little chat.

(i can feel the "LAME SONY LOVER" flames coming on...)

Well the point with the sennheisers is, that you can abuse them all you like and they aren't gonna break (unless you really try to).. So if I was just pissing about with mates I would rather they just used the hd25s (unless they were really careless), as I can see the behringers just dieing in a few months anyway.

I've used cheaper headphones like that and I really haven't been able to hear clear enough to mix properly. Even at home with the speakers on low.

As for the sonys, I know a fair few people who have had them break on them., infact I can only think of one person whos had theirs for any time without them snapping.

I had the cheaper sonys (which are more or less the same but with cheaper drive units).. and they snapped after about 3 months of moderate use.

The Sony MDR-V6, aka the Sony MDR-7506, is an EXTREMELY durable and well made studio headphone. It is from Sony's older lineup of headphones, and far surpasses the build quality of their new models. Other good studio headphones include the Sennheiser HD280 Pro, the AKG 271 Studio, and the Beyerdynamic DT250-80. You can also take the pads from the DT250-80's and put them on an MDR-V6 or MDR-7506... Again, some of these headphones are probably better studio monitors than the HD25's, and CERTAINLY better than the types that aren't studio monitors, like the Pioneers.
