this is gonna be awesome, i can't wait to see him and all of you guys again. do you guys know if we can bring cameras in there?

If it's the Riv than it's guaranteed they will not let you bring a camera in. They will search/pat you down on entry, too, so trying to smuggle one in will be difficult. And the inside security will go nazi on you if they catch you snapping and you don't have a press cred.

I am sure one of those stupid "Red" papers would give you a press pass to get their thumb on the pulse of Chicago's hip youth.

i have to agree with chris/caw

the last time i was at Riviera for pvd a guard saw the digital camera i was snapping away with,.. he came down and almost kicked me out, a real snarky asshole, i wanted to shove my camera down his throat

smuggling one is easy but if they see you taking pix, they will def make life difficult for you as they did mine

And don't hide narcotics in your cigarette packs, they don't like that either.

Posted by UWM on Oct-08-2003 01:18:

I agree, partying sober is fun. In fact, more times than not I party sober.

But it's MORE fun when you aren't sober

fuck... the riv... anyone got any insight what the rationale is of putting pvd? I guess there's only so many places you can have 18+ events...
but then again, I enjoy getting molested by security only so often... there has to be a better way :P

Same here, I'll be driving up to chi for this! As of right now it'll be me and 4 others, that might change though.. Looking forward to seeing all you guys there.

--Anyone know any good hotels (suites) kinda close to the riviera, I found some that were decent in price but were like 35 minutes from there. It'll be awesome to have a Pvd after party!!

1. age=18+
josh you should be able to go

2. venue/tickets
should be available at AnotherLevel within a few weeks..i'm assuming

3. hotels near Riviera
i'd rather drive 30min than stay at a hotel near the Riviera which is located in a crappy neighborhood

Paul Van Dyk - HOB 11-15-03

Tickets go on sale 10/15:

http://www.hob.com/tickets/eventdet...p?eventid=23177

I'm not interested anymore - Tiesto @ HOB had good sound ONLY on the floor, which was too crowded for my tastes. At least the riv has that balcony - this place has shit sound in the entire back half of the venue even though you can see the stage clearly. Cleveland was a good enough set for me... if I remember correctly the floor vibrations from dancing @ the HOB makes the rekids skip too....

HOB also requires a press cred. (And those joking about getting a CTA/other press pass -- think again. Even with a legitimate pass, you need to arrange it ahead of time.) Basically, any of the venues that cator more to live acts have very strict photography policies. Usually at venues like this you are allowed to shoot only during the first three songs, are not allowed to use a flash, and have to sign your life away...

I've shot at HOB for Spundae shows, where Spundae has arranged it with HOB management and these rules have been relaxed a bit (e.g., can shoot all night, can use a flash, etc.) given that an EDM show is a much different production than a live act and the whole promotion policy is different (e.g., record label wanting to control rights to all images taken of the performer and so forth). But I've been challenged on many occasions while at HOB by a security guard who hasn't yet seen me and wants to see my press pass (which invariably falls off -- now I stick it on the external battery for my flash). For HOB I now get there early while they're still setting up and they have the all-hands before security breaks to go to their stations so they all see/know me even before the doors open.

It looks like I will be in town on the 15th (there was a chance I'd be going to London for work). But PVD is a PURE show, rather than Spundae, so I don't know if I'll be able to shoot the show yet.

Oh, and yes, the floor at HOB does shake quite noticably when people are dancing...

Posted by lcid on Oct-13-2003 22:04:

i've never been to a show @ HOB before, is it a good idea to buy tickets ahead of time online or just pay at the door? what are the chances it will sell out?

Posted by CAW on Oct-13-2003 22:07:

I have narray a klew...

Posted by UWM on Oct-13-2003 22:40:

Tiesto didn't sell out, I would assume PvD won't either.

But thank God this is at least at the HOB and not @ the Riv.

Posted by Trancer-adu on Oct-14-2003 06:41:

so wait, what happened to the riv show? i was actually looking forward to going there since it's closer to campus and i'm not really a fan of hob. i personally think it's a horrible location for edm (but i haven't experienced the riv yet, so i can't judge).

confused...
