Well no, it's pointless to keep calling obviously. But you have to watch out for serious retribution if you ever take this approach, such as:
a) Being signed up for vast multitudes of spam e-mail
b) Being clocked if you ever see that person again
c) Having insane messages left on your voice mail.

Say you are in a long distance relationship (like, quite a long distance) and you meet someone. The two of you fall head over heels for each other, and you know this person is right for you and your current other is not. Is it okay to tell them over the phone or should you fly and visit them to let them know?

LDRs are a different kettle of fish... if it's going to be costing you immense time and money to perform the breakup, then I would say it's okay to do it over the phone - unless you were already planning a visit and are going to see each other in a few days.

However, economics isn't an excuse not to spend the $2 on gas to drive to their place or the nearest coffee shop.

Re: SMS breakups - I would pretend I never got the message, show up at her place the next day, and force the bitch to tell me face to face.

Actually, there's an idea for any kind of bitchy breakup by e-mail or IM or SMS or voice mail... if they're going to do it in such an impersonal way, they can't verify that you ever got the message. So just pretend you didn't and fuck with them! They deserve it anyway!

i have been guilty of the phone call breakup. but to my defence, i was drunk and she lived two states away at the time. i went out to visit a couple of days later for a face to face meeting (and to pick up my car). i felt bad about doing that, but she was talking about moving to be closer to me, and i had never expressed a long term commitment interest. i was able to preserve the friendship, so it wasn't a completely spineless cop-out.

a few years ago, my friend was going out with this girl for a couple of months, and she was quite the whore. She knew it, and he knew it (he convinced her to give me head once cuz i "needed to be cheared up").
