I think Tiesto and PVD are both great.....but yeah, peoples tastes vary from year to year, especially if the dj decides to change his style up a bit. Or do something stupid like appear in a video with shifty shellshock.
I am not jumping on the PvD bandwagon, nor will I ever jump on it.
But I don't think you should sit around and get all worked up over the people who do jump on the bandwagon to look popular. You should only focus on your tastes and who you choose to like.

oh my god..
ok imma write it slow and immma write my OPINION
pvd will possibly win dj of the year because of the hype surrounding reflections and hype of him overall
IMO
skill isnt there for paul van dyk anymore...his sets have a big percentage of pvd "productions in them"
compare avenues vs. reflection
remix of binary finary vs. pvd rework of blackeight
words vs. connected
YOU TELL ME....PVd should of won dj of the year in that era when those tunes there added high value to his sets
Today he is gibberish
you said 7 tunes out of 40something had his name..ur wrong it was more like 11 counting his reedit and reworks.
Someone with skills and no high calibar popularity like pvd should win..like sasha

And thats the stupidest thing I've ever heard, if PvD has high calibre popularity and Sasha doesn't then I'm Jesus H. Christ |

But hey, its as bad as you make it for yourself
Sasha is an immensely popular DJ.... as to paul , his sets are okay, but I just don't feel he is "number one" material. Compare energy 2k3 set (very popular set by paul) to Tiesto's broadcasted amnesia set(also a popular recent one) ... IMO tiesto wins hands down in all respects (I don't have much of an ear for mixing, but I didn't notice any obvious wrecks or such). It's a rather pedantic scope of the situation, since they both play many many sets every year, but i just don't feel paul's sets are even of the same caliber as say; Tiesto. YMMV
Personally, sets by the likes of Lemon8, Sasha, etc. are far more interesting to me =)
posers are there to remind normal people that they're normal and to prevent normal people from turning into posers.

I still like tiesto for some reason even though I wasn't feeling his sets from last winter. He is still #1. Great sets this summer. I'm still not a fan of G&D or PvD like a lot of ppl all of a sudden have become. I'm not into prog and there isn't enough nrg in PvD's sets and production imo. I think that a lot of ppl see these OMG when ppl post something or all of there friends like a person and they just go along with . Next year it will be someone else.
I Actually agree with you on this...
I've liked PvD, Tiesto, Sasha, Diggers, Warren and others for a long time.
But I dont think either of them deserved to be the No. 1.
My number 1 DJ will always be John 00 Flemming, its too bad hes so unederated.

Fuck pvd, and tiesto (both deliver great sets and pretty fine productions[used the fword to feel like pvd
]) but atm
JAMES ZABIELA delivers more talent in his sets than anyone i have ever seen, he is 23 or 24 now, and already i feel he brings more talent to the scene than PvD or tijs, dont get me wrong i love them both but Zabiela does more in two hours than most djs would do in two days. For Djing ability zabiela is the future, I feel tiesto had a better year than pvd this year, so i voted him higher than pvd, i also voted for the likes of moshic, josh gabriel, and zabiela, as well as pvd ranking in on the bottom of my list
, pvd delivers great sets, but he isnt really doing innovative things in them, Josh gabriel, when working with dave dresden has begun a new trend of playing acapella tracks over trance songs, people love it, zabiela samples scratches and does just about everything technology allows him to do with 2 hands, moshic is bringing a very quality sound to the clubbing world i feel, where as pvd seemed to deliver the same ol pvd sets, in one hand pvd has quality sets and i wouldnt skip seeing him live, but in staying in the old ways is he really doing things worthy of the number one spot, tiesto has been exploring new genres and going pretty hogwild this year and i feel while he may not have been completely worthy last year he has lived up to the title in the year following.
