imho, it wasn't a year of anything special this time, even though there have been some decent trance tunes coming out.

next year, it will be 1999 again, and bring us another summer of love

It seems more this year that people have been jumping on the breaks bandwagon. Now more deejays are playing breaks and more artists are releasing breaks and it has become more popular (which I've never cared about). If you truly like breaks then that's great but it seems in 2003, I've seen more people jump on the bandwagon because they want to seem cool and like everyone else.

should be congrats for:

Haak
Endre
George Hales
The Discharge Crew

and any other TA producers who made it...

2003 started out shit.

Bonsai closing and Lvee threatening to quit production. The RAVE act. RIAA taking down everything they could. Rumours and threats everywhere.

Then it turned out to be the best year yet. Not just uplifting, but more complex, well crafted tracks came in. The best producers got better, and the amateur producers got more recognition. G&D took off, Marcus Schultz got recognition, and loads of great tracks were made.

2003 -> Good so far. A bit to go yet though.

who cares who jumped on what bandwagon? i've loved breaks for a couple of years now and all i care about it hearing them. there have been waaaaaaaay too many amazing tracks this year for djs (yes, also non-breaks djs) NOT to play them.

definately the year for Gabriel and Dresden. I mean Beautiful Things and As The Rush Comes are definately the 2 biggest tracks of the year. Tiesto and PVD are pimping the hell out of both those songs.

PVD had a big year too, Time Of Our Lives, his remix of Second Sun's Crush, and Nothing But You, are all gr8 tunes.

this year was the year of the scene falling further down to pits of shit... how can it be a year for a genre when globaly the scene is dieing or geting worse year by year... labels closing, over done mp3 downloading,no funding behind the scene, not a trend in some places as it used to be, etc all factors and its just getting worse so its a year of shit IMO and not gonna get any better any time soon

2003 was a great year - even for quote un quote "Amateur Production/Promotion" posters. They should change that Amateur part of that title, and put Amateur/Pro producers, cuz almost everybody who posts there is signed to big labels.

Seriously some great sets, I've downloaded this year. Breaks, Prog, Trance! Wow! Producers these days are taking it up a notch. I like to see the attitudes of these guys!

2004, is going to be an excellent year, I can guarantee that! -Mental

O.K first of all considering labels are closing I'd still say there are enough good tunez out there still so it doesn't matter. Also most DJ's support MP3's so why is that a bad thing? It isn't dying because I could list all the tunez I have from 2003 that are amazing and theres quite a few and I'm sure that others could do the same, it's the same as any other year, maybe even better than last year.

ehhh first of all not gonna get to into it but ill say a few things..... most djs do support mp3 but not the mp3 downloading community... because 90% of people who download mp3s dont go buy records so whats good for them if they dont put money back in the scene ...second the scene has gone down hill big time i have worked in a record store seeing labels going broke because there isnt much money going around anymore... and second i promote for spundae here in las vegas and many of the djs i spoken to big names all say the scene isnt what it used to be going downhill. Very few big names are still playing ton of gigs but in majority its not like it was few years back... just because the scene is going to shits doesnt mean there isnt good music being put out ....and trancedance i dont know how long yuou been into the scene but i been listening to this music for 10 years now and been into the scene many years and the scene has definatlly droped globally its not like it was where money was plentiful ton of parties all the time ..now the only parties around are the ones with huge names like tiesto, etc because no one will go to the other parties. Youll see it going worse..... more and more i get into the the other side of things i see how damaging the mp3 scene is i just htink if your not a dj many people shouldnt have tracks until they come out whats the point for someone that isnt a dj to know promos they cant wait till its on cd or what... just my 2 cents and many of you will talk shit probably because many download mp3s ...which i do as well but i spend 100 - 200 $ on vinyl a week so i contribute which i cant say for many. most of you wont admit that its hurting the small labels because its you guys only source for free music so your gaining from it so people make any excuse to justify the positives and neglect the fact there so much negative reprocussions that are far worse

Better than last year, but there have been too many vocal tunes about I think, and not enough quality instrumentals. I bought about ten singles last year, all instrumental. This year I've only bought about four, and they're all vocal.

The new talent is coming with fresh ideas to take over the spots of old and tired acts who repeat the same formula over and over.

I'm going to base my vote depending on who is voted DJ of the Year by MixMag.

If PvD is voted #1 then I'm going to call it "The Year that Nobody Realized How Piss Poor PvD's Productions Are"

I know I'm going to get that one person going "DJ of the Year doesn't have anything to do with his productions..." but allow me to explain. Every PvD set I have listened to contains a large quantity of his material, whether it be his own productions or remixes/re-edits/reworks (whatever the fuck he calls them) and the majority of us know that his productions blow. IMO, a DJs mixing skills are not all that they should be based on when voting on the MixMag poll but the music they play as well.

If he's not voted #1 then "The Year of Gabriel & Dresden" for sure.

Gabriel & Dresden have been innovative as hell this year with productions and their livesets. They will rip vocals from other tunes and play them on top of other tracks, something that you rarely see any of the other DJs doing. G&D have played such a variety of music in their sets from house to trance and even R&B/Hip-Hop (Acid Elliot) and for this I feel they should be reconized.

Actually I find if you look at the big names and what they did in 2003, most have fallen below expectations, which is very sad. Most will come back and hopefully tear 2004 up.
